Penrhos Park is a golf resort pretty much equidistant between Aberystwyth and Aberaeron, and only a mile or so from the Wales Coast Path. Consequently, it is ideally suited for taking the excellent buses (T1 or T5, every 30 mins) up to Aberystwyth, or down to Aberaeron, and then walk back to the hotel….very few hotels have the facilities of Penrhos Park and offer that access to the Coast Path. The rooms are large, with a double (sadly not a King) AND a single bed, with a small kitchen area with toaster / microwave / kettle / fridge and a set of crockery with dish cloth and t-towel provided but no washing up liquid oddly! Importantly, these rooms are in three 6-room accommodation blocks that were detached from the main resort build / facilities by a 100m walk….great for peace & quiet, not great in the rain walking to breakfast. Breakfast was advertised as cooked and continental; cooked was good and prepared to order, ‘the continental’ was simply cereal, toast and yogurt - some fruit, pasties etc would have added the ‘continental’ part. The facilities were were a large bar / lounge and spa with a well-equipped gym, a good sized indoor pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi - the latter required £1 for 10-minutes, this is the first time that I’ve stayed somewhere where the jacuzzi use wasn’t included in the price, very odd! Also, no additional towels were provided nor were there any loungers around the pool. So overall, a ‘good average’ (3.5) with some pros and cons: Pros: great location, good rooms, good cooked breakfast, competitive pricing, quiet rooms. Cons: no King size beds, no air-conditioning (the rooms get very hot) a few ‘penny pinching annoyances’ such as poor continental breakfast, paid-for jacuzzi, no additional towels (unless you specifically ask), no loungers and no washing-up liquid provided in the kitchenette area.
