Best holiday in a long time We enjoyed this hotel and holiday so much; we extended it by a few more days! We couldn’t have been happier with everything about Guya Playa. It’s perfect for families for so many reasons. This is not your typical high rise hotel, but small apartments with a lovely vibe. We chose to upgrade to a sea view and was worth every penny - especially if you have kids asleep early and you’re not stuck staring at the car park with your evening beer. The food here was simply exceptional. There is a different theme every evening but still get regular food in addition to. The standard of dishes and ingredients is second to non. As the only vegan in the family, it’s always a bit worrying and limiting. Not the case here. There were vegan options every evening; the chef not over complicating. Cooked amazing dishes such as ratatouille, vegan curries, salads, garlic mushrooms, various vegetables with garlic….I could go on and on. Breakfast time they also had different plant based milks to choose from; almond, soya and oat. The staff were very friendly and did everything to help us with any issues and were lovely with our young children. They even let us get a breakfast when checking out early in the morning before flying home. There are the pools ideal for children also. They don’t look too big on the photos but are more than adequate, and really safe. Always a lifeguard on duty. Beach nearby gets very crowded and is best to go early morning; sun beds are €16 for 2 and an umbrella. If you came brave the crows head towards the other end of the beach away from the hotels and it gets quieter and more beautiful. Anybody feeling particularly brave; the mountain with a tower on top that you can see from the pool is accessible. After a few unsuccessful attempts; the lady on reception told me the route for a morning jog. If you follow the red markings up the mountain, it leads to the summit. Bear in mind it’s rocky and a little challenging in some areas. Predominantly German resort but lots of different nationalities within the hotel. If anybody is wanting to watch English premier league games when there…be aware, bars aren’t particularly accommodating to requests for games - only Bundesliga. Shout out to who was happy to show any premier league game on request and has a beautiful bar/restaurant down on the front in Cala Radjada. Notes for improvements. Rooms could have a brush so that you can sweep up after a meal and messy kids - rather than waiting for the cleaner the next day. The wrist bands are a bit of a nightmare aswell. No plastic and wooden contraptions around your wrist; fantastic for the environment. However, they keep faltering (I assume when the wood gets wet from the pool). We went through 8 bands in total during the holiday. Also Cala Radjada is far away from Palma. This adds to the beauty and vibe, but we paid for a private taxi from the airport; which still takes an hour. If you have young kids

This hotel was really really lovely, there were just a few things that stopped it being perfect. First of all the positives: 👏 The whole place feels very new and very clean. 👏 It all feels very luxurious and exclusive. The reception, restaurants, pools and villas are all beautiful. 👏 The staff are lovely, very friendly and seem eager to help. The restaurant staff are very attentive. The glass of cava whilst checking in was very welcome. 👏 The golf carts to get you around are great - I loved them. 👏 The room was spacious, plenty of wardrobe space and the aircon worked a treat. 👏 Food was delicious. 👏 Adults only pool. They man the pools, if your towel is on the sun loungers longer than 45 mins they are removed - stops any hogging of loungers early in the morning or throughout the day. 👏 Very family friendly, lots of babies whilst I was there. 👏 Beach at the bottom of the resort. And the bits that mean it isn’t quite perfect: 😑 The room I stayed in was an upgrade, but the bathroom didn’t have a proper door. This meant that every time someone went to the toilet you could hear, and smell, everything. 😑 The room doesn’t really have a changing area. I was on holiday with a friend, we could have done with a curtain or a door on the bathroom to be able to change etc. The rooms have big mirrors so its tricky to get changed without revealing all to everyone. 😑 Whilst there is a large selection of food for meat eaters and vegetarians, they had vegan bolognaise every night. Breakfast was even more limited. Very disappointing. 😑 Whilst they have an adults only pool with a member of staff there, they didn’t stop people bringing their young children into the pool. Whilst it wasn’t too much of a problem when I was there as it was mainly babies, I would hope in school holidays they would police it better to stop the pool being full of older children. 😑 There were often flies on the food. They could do with fly nets on the doors or net cloches over some of the food.

Lovely hotel, comfortable beds, our room was cleaned every day and the staff were friendly. The hotel is in a really good location., Central for bars and restaurants. The lack of an outdoor terrace or balcony to our room was a disappointment (though when I read the small print it did tell us that) There was no view either, and the Windows had been frosted to obscure the lack of a nice out look. There was no English tv stations, and we weren't too bothered about that, but i would have liked a news channel . The sun terrace on the roof is lovely, but I also thought it would have been nice to have had snacks available. You can get drinks though. Overall the good things outweigh the negatives, and it is a lovely hotel.

Reviewing this hotel is quite difficult because the staff are all friendly and it does have some good points. Locally it is known as Fawtly Towers (by the taxi drivers ) and unfortunately it’s not difficult to understand why, however let’s start with the positives; firstly the hotel manager, he is a lovely smiley chap and he has a very high level of visibility on the shop floor and that helps the hotel have a relaxed vibe to it. I can also say the bath towels are soft, the beds are comfy , you get a kettle and the hotel supplies pool towels at no extra cost. The breakfast is also ok and the gym is basic but pleasant. In truth though, it’s a very old old hotel that has had a cheap lick of white paint and bit of a refurb including astroturf around the pool. Whilst the bedrooms are relatively comfy (ours overlooked the main road) they do remind me of the rooms in an old style travel lodge and the bathrooms are awful. The outside of the hotel also lacks any kerb appeal and it looks like an old block of council flats. The cleaners do an excellent job tidying the rooms every day and as I’ve said bathrooms are the worst feature , the plumbing smells , the bathrooms are small and the shower is barely fit for purpose. On another positive note the repair/maintenance man is great ( he definitely works hard) - he fixed the safe, the shampoo dispenser and even gave us a new plug for the bathroom sink , he was last seen dealing with some leaky aircon in the hotel lobby . In summary, would I stay again ? no, was it expensive accommodation ? yes , is it 4 star ? definitely not (3 star at best). Fawlty Towers is probably a bit harsh as it did slowly grow on me but I can understand why it’s called Fawlty Towers.

My wife and I had an opportunity to take a holiday alone and chose Son Penya based on the location, architecture of the property and privacy afforded by the ‘private villas’ which make up about 50% of the 20 rooms at this beautifully presented property. Highs of our stay: -Size, quality of furnishings, privacy and views from our ‘private villa’ (room no. 17) -The immaculate public areas including the gardens -Friendly and professional staff both in the restaurant, reception and around the hotel in general. In particular, a big ‘thank you’ to Roberto, Sonia and Barbara for their attentiveness during our stay and willingness to listen to and help me as I learn to speak Spanish. -Quality and value of food at breakfast and dinner with a good choice on the menu as well as some ‘specials’ each evening. -The spa and pool. A wide range of treatments available and reasonably priced Could be better- -The consistency of the dishes at dinner. I had the same dish twice during our stay and the presentation/flavour was far better the first time I ate it. Overall, a highly relaxing and enjoyable stay in a beautifully rural and unspoilt part of Mallorca. I’d recommend having a car should you wish to explore beyond the immediate area and taking one of the larger ‘private villas’, with their own pools if you are seeking complete privacy. Highly recommended and we will definitely return.
