Hotel berhampiran Lidl, Ludwigshafen

We travelled to Ludwigshafen for business and looked for hotels near to the work premises, unfortunately the 'Excelsior Hotel' was first in the list. At only 90 euros a night (including breakfast) it is no doubt a 'budget' option, but it isn't budget in the respect of a Travelodge or Premier Inn, instead it's a lost hotel in a pretty unpleasant area which has been left to decay. The hotel is a short walk from the railway station, graffiti-covered walls surround the hotel, and the first impression of the hotel visually is not a positive one, it's hard to even find the way in, amongst scaffolding and concrete jungle. At night, it's a fairly unsafe-feeling area, with people 'hangin around' looking suspicious. The one positive aspect upon booking was the 'Skybar', however digging deeper into reviews, it's clear that it's been closed long before the 'pandemic', infact 4 years ago, and upon arrival we were informed that it's still closed with no future planned. There is no restaurant onsite, nor bar besides a mini-fridge sat on the reception desk with a few bottles of beer available. Upon check-in, I was also asked for my 'date of birth' and home address, which often feels irrelevant, I refused to give such details. Once in the room, via the lift which takes about 5 minutes to arrive and to move, there's no air conditioning which during 32c weather was painful, but fortunately there was a fan. The room size isn't bad at all and the bed was comfortable, but the presentation of the room, as a new guest, wasn't considerate. A pile of electrical extension and cables was next to my bed, not tucked away out of sight. The internet connection was virtually useless in the afternoon/evenings after guests start to utilise it, I resorted to using mobile data instead. There are balconies, but they're just concrete and far from cosy, although the view over the city isn't at all bad. There is no furniture and in addition from a security aspect someone could easily go from their balcony to yours, therefore always be sure to lock and chain the balcony door when not in the room, or at night. At night, you can hear noise from neighbouring rooms, above, below and to the sides, I am also fairly sure that I had 3 'bed-bug' bites from my two night stay at the hotel. Breakfast was included in my 90 euro rate and the breakfast restaurant isn't bad, the service is friendly but the choice is limited, a few cold options and minimal hot options, no bacon or sausages unfortunately. It was a little off-putting to see mouse-traps being laid around the restaurant while I was sat trying to enjoy my meal. While away from the hotel, I left the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door, despite this upon return later that afternoon the cleaner had been into the room and cleaned, this is not acceptable when the message is clearly made that the room should not be disturbed. The hotel pretty far from Bahnhof but if you not hurry or your destination are in the city it's ok. When I arrived, there were many people waiting to check in. Got a room a little late I have to wait 15-20 minutes to get a key card. (Unfortunately the hotel bar was not open at that time. Otherwise I will have a seat to chill and wait.) The room :: I really like the room, everything like in the picture, So stylish, comfy and clean. Just the AC it was not cool at night.

Staff and main facilities were very nice - I enjoyed the breakfast, location, and the main lobby area, however... they have an issue with their heating/cooling - it was over 25 degrees C in our room and the air conditioning would not kick in unless it was over 22 degrees outside - this made for a very uncomfortable stay. Overall it is a nice hotel, but needs some improvement in keeping with Marriot/Bonvoy brand.

Clean and modern hotel, great breakfast to start your day and most importantly it's 5 mins walk to Mannheim main train station and 2 mins walk to the tram station to Mannheim shopping district. Front office staff were welcoming and courteous, thanks for making my stay wonderful. Best part of the hotel is the view of the train station and absolutely zero noise from outside, which makes your stay very comfortable.

The hotel was undergoing an upgrade so the room we checked in to was new and refreshed. The hotel cafe had a good spread for breakfast. The staff were very friendly and gave us recommendations to visit around the area. Volk was particularly helpful.

Das Hotel kann mit Qualitäten glänzen wie kein Anderes. Zumal darf man bei einer Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass eine Stehlampe funktioniert, von 50 Prozent ausgehen. Des Weiteren wiesen die Handtücher nicht nur Flecken und Löcher, sondern auch einen köstlichen Duft von Arsch auf. Neben der architektonischen Missgestaltung des Hauses, besaß mein Bad eine stilistisch, klug, falsch eingesetzte Fliese. Ebenfalls traf ich, in diesem 10.000 cm^2 Bad, auf zwei weitere wunderschöne Überraschungen. Zum Einen durfte ich eine nutzlose, herausgeschraubte Armatur begutachten, zum Anderen traf ich in der Dusche auf vereinzelte entzückende Schimmelkolonien, welche mir ein Lächeln aufs Gesicht zauberten. Als ich mein Zimmer betrat war ich erleichtert, dass ich nicht der Einzige mit einem Schaden bin, sondern auch die Wand meines Zimmers erquickte mich mit einem vorzüglichen Wasserschaden. Zugute kam dem Hotel einen, an meine Stube angeschlossenen Balkon, welcher mir einen Ausblick des Grauens bescherte. Denn der Innenhof, auf den ich blicken durfte, war von einer durchgehenden Grundbeschissenheit ausgestattet. Aber nicht nur negative Aspekte beschatten das Hotel, sondern auch ein einziger guter, nämlich das Personal. Dieses wies eine überdurchschnittliche Freundlichkeit auf, welche wahrscheinlich auf einer regelmäßigen Drogeneinnahme basiert. Durch die liebevollen Worte „ Danke Bruderherz“ des Personals und der wahrscheinlichen Drogenabhängigkeit, schließe ich auf einen Wohnsitz nahe des Frankfurter Hauptbahnhofs. So kann ich dieses Hotel nur jedem empfehlen, zumindest jedem der von seinen niedrigen Erwartungen enttäuscht werden möchte. Vielen Dank Best Western!

Freundlicher Empfang, große,saubere Zimmer, schalldichte Fenster, Kaffee und Tee auf dem Zimmer, bequeme Betten.

Die Mitarbeiter sind alle sehr nett. Das Zimmer ist geräumig und man fühlt sich nicht eingeengt. Insgesamt war unser Aufenthalt angenehm. Wir konnten auch spontan das nicht gebuchte Frühstück für einzelne Tage dazu buchen. Die Saubarkeit war in unserem Fall jedoch nicht ganz eingehalten. Wir haben den täglichen Putzservice abbestellt, was ein tolles Angebot ist, da es für einen so kurzen Aufenthalt nicht notwendig ist. Am Wochenende wurde trotzdem immer einmal das Zimmer gerichtet. Allerdings war das Zimmer bei unserer Ankunft schon nicht ganz sauber. Der Badetürknauf war voller Staub, die hingestellten Gläser für die im Preis enthaltene Flasche Wasser hatten noch Lippenstiftrand vom Vorbesucher und im Waschbecken hing noch ein gezupftes Haar mit sichtbaren Hautfetzen. Wir haben die Gläser dann einfach nicht benutzt und das Waschbecken selbst sauber gemacht. Das Zimmer an sich und das Bad waren sonst in ordentlichem Zustand. Für seine Zwecke konnte man insgesamt mit dem Preis-Leistungsverhältnis zufrieden sein. Es wird auch oft gefragt, ob soweit alles in Ordnung ist und man kann seine Kritik direkt äußern, sollte es Probleme geben.

We were so glad to see this fully renovated hotel open in time for our visit to the Heidelberg Christmas Market (original opening date was projected for the end of December). The Hilton Heidelberg is an incredible facility, surpassed only by the amazing team working to provide the best possible experience! We have never been so graciously welcomed by so many on the team, including the General Manager, Remmie. Margarita and Katerina took great care of us during check in and were even able to upgrade us to a Junior Suite - what a welcome surprise! After settling in to our room, we had the pleasure of meeting Lubeth in the Executive Lounge who took care of every need and made us feel so welcome - always with a smile! The management team is definitely committed to hiring the best, but they are also clearly committed to leading by example. Vladimir (the restaurant manager) made a point of introducing himself and checking to be sure we were enjoying our stay and Sonja was so gracious when we were visiting the restaurant. Brent stopped by while we were in the Executive Lounge to be sure we were enjoying our visit and asked if there was anything he could do to help. Tim (a Heidelberg local) took time to share some of his favorite spots around town, as well as the hotel amenities and make sure we made the most of our time in town! I cannot remember another hotel stay where I could name more than 1-2 people on the staff - this team truly made us feel welcomed and valued! Thank you for a such a great experience!

We arrived at the hotel after a long travel day in the early evening and the receptionist was very friendly, listened and gave us two nice rooms with views towards the city (rather than the station and rail-tracks). The rooms were clean and had amenities such as a kettle. What really rocked was the breakfast. An excellent choice of cold and warm, a very good handmade fruit-salad and bircher musli. As I am someone using the stairs rather than the elevator to do some steps, I really enjoyed the motivating messages on each floor of the staircase. Good idea! Overall great value for our money. Thank you so much for this wonderful stay, we will come back when the opportunity arises.
