Hotel berhampiran Dundelbachfall, Lungern

Very warm welcome. The hotel corresponds to the description and pictures. Beautiful, clean room and bathroom. A large and comfortable bed and the requested ergonomic extra pillow was also there. For my dog, there was a dog bed, water bowl, and a welcome treat. And there was even an extra door tag that there was a dog in the room. Very convenient if you want to leave the dog in the room for a short time. The breakfast buffet offers a wide selection from scrambled eggs and bacon to cold cuts, salmon and various cheeses, fresh fruit salad and freshly squeezed orange juice, just to name a few, because there was so much more. I would especially like to mention the exceptionally attentive staff at breakfast who, after telling them my room number, presented me with a variety of choices of lactose-free and plant-based milk and yogurt - a preference I could also choose before arrival. Overall, an exceptional stay and highly recommended!

We had one night here en route to the south, but would like to come back and explore the area further. We thought that the room rate and breakfast were excellent value, particularly for Switzerland. The hotel has been well maintained to a good 4 star level (it's a 5 star review, but for a 4 star hotel). Nice, old fashioned decor (1890s Belle Epoque meets 1980s), lovely people at reception, a grand room for the restaurant (not used) and for breakfast) and very comfortable beds. We will return!

PROS * Incredible unique building * Iconic fairy-tale type structure * Stunning unique period-piece architecture * A true remnant of ”La Belle Epoque” * Isolated and tranquil (but only when day hikers have not yet arrived or have departed) * Stunning lobby and ground and first-floor * Exquisitely and tastefully furnished sitting rooms * Beautiful and well-manicured grounds * Unspeakable breath-taking scenery of the waterfalls and lake * Access to ”easy” super pleasant hikes along the waterfalls CONS * It can be hectic during the day with all the hikers * Primary access by boat and fun icular for guests, but cars can get there too ”I VISITED THIS PLACE”... ... because I was hiking up along and to the top of the waterfall, and this was a bonus to see and visit. It was quite busy with meals being served to the many many day visitors- there must have been at least 50-70 at any given moment. Surely the outside beauty speaks for itself but to see the inside lobby and sitting rooms and (at least two) indoor dining rooms for the honored guests- what surprising lush elegance and soft under spoken glamour. I was thrilled to be able to wander and explore all the public areas of the ground and first floor. TIPS It is truly an amazing place- even if your goal is to hike (and who doesn't want to hike), this place should be visited. I hope that you like my many helpful” photos that I've attached here for you to understand that this is an incredible special unique structure: maybe you'll stay here....

The worst experience. They never mention anywhere that in the snowy season the only way to get to the hotel is by gondola. Our train arrived at grindelwald at 4.18 and there was no gondola service anymore because they run out at 4 pm. We couldn't get to the hotel anymore, we contacted the staff and they didn't care, we lost the reservation, they didn't give us anything back, not even a miserable courtesy breakfast. We let ourselves be carried away by some comments where it says that it has beautiful views but the way to get there is terrible, if you don't get on the gondola before 4 pm there is no way and you can't go down to town either. I do not recommend it at all. Ay The end we stayed at the derby hotel because there was no other place and that was great, everyone was very friendly, the room was excellent, it was right next to the station, I would return 100 times more with them.

Mi pregio di recensire il Youth hostel di Engelberg, che ho avuto l'occasione di visitare durante una gita scolastica. Purtroppo, devo constatare che le camere erano intrise di una sgradevole fragranza, il wifi risultava fuori servizio e ho trovato profondamente disgustoso il fatto che i piumini e i cuscini non venissero lavati ma fossero coperti unicamente da federe di dubbia igiene. Nello scostare la federa del piumino, ho avvistato una macchia dalla strana colorazione che pareva essere un'affermazione di poca attenzione alle pulizie, per cui ho deciso di dormire senza. La puzza, purtroppo, ci ha costretti a tenere le finestre aperte durante la notte, rendendo l'esperienza ancora meno confortevole. La qualità del cibo non ha soddisfatto le aspettative, in particolare la carne consumata da me e dai miei compagni di stanza ci ha causato fastidi intestinali. L'unico aspetto positivo del Youth hostel di Engelberg è rappresentato dalla vista del paesaggio che si può ammirare dalle finestre. In conclusione, non consiglio questo alloggio a nessuno, poiché esistono certamente alternative di gran lunga migliori.

Great location as it's just beside the cable car station to Titlis. The sauna and the pool were both well maintained. Overall, the stay was good. The service could have been better though.

Looking for a relaxing break in the Swiss Alos, close to the slopes, I found this little gem: a hotel, pretty rustique in the traditional Swiss way! Not far from the heart of Engelberg but far enough to contemplate the sky, see the stars and hear only the heartbeat of nature. Clean, very very clean, with comfortable rooms, not big, just comfy, most with a balcony overviewing the village. Staff, super nice and polite, ready to help and advise: had a 10% discount in my ski rental and anytime I wanted to go skiing they got in the minivan and took me to the resort! The restaurant was also nice, with delicious dishes and a savvy wine list. Not to miss! Only point I would like to note, the breakfast buffet: every day the same, not always fresh fruits available. Would like some variety and some chocolate croissants, please! Overall, a must go!
