We were going to Valencia from Chamartin first thing, so the main criteria for the hotel was that it was close to the station. It is really close to the station. Big tick there. It's not the prettiest building from the outside, but inside is quite a different. The staff were really friendly and helpful. It has an outside pool, but given that the overnight temperatures were below freezing, unsurprisingly the pool was shut. The room was very nice. I can't remember the type of room (sorry!) but it had a bit with a sofa and a TV then a sort-of partitiion and then a really decent sized bed and another TV. Nice touch with the TV - you're in another country so you shouldn't expect English speaking channels, but both TVs had a Chromecast attached so it was easy to pair it with a phone or tablet and watch Netflix/Amazon Prime/saved films, etc on the TVs, which is a nice feature. Most hotels don't offer this. Only criticism is that that the hotel is very tall and it is very possible to fall out of the windows. To clarify, for most people that's not going to happen. It's just that there's nothing to stop you opening the windows on high floors - some hotels stop you opening the windows too much but these windows are easily opened and quite low. Personally I was absoutely fine with it as it let me take pictures of the north of the city and the 4 towers of CBTA unobstructed, but if you have kids with you then keep an eye out. (This is just a heads up - the rooms are fine, you might just not want to leave kids unattended.) If you don't have kids with you there is absolutely nothing to worry about, although when I opened the windows it did make me feel a little nervous. Rooms had blackout curtains and had decent soundproofing as well. Breakfast was really good. Good selection of juices, cereals, baked goods, charcuterie as well as british staples like toast, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, bacon and sausage. We arrived quite late in the afternoon and went wandering. Definitely worth checking out the worryingly tilted Puerta De Europa twin towers which are nearby. We were facing north and the view over the CBTA (home to some of the tallest buildings in the EU) and the north of Madrid is stunning, however the area around the hotel isn't the prettiest. Transport links are fantastic. Madrid's public transport system is really good and from Chamartin you can get to most of the city, including the touristy bits really easily. If I came back to Madrid would I some back here? If it were as a tourist then I might not, only because we came back to Madrid a few days later and stayed right in the centre, which was very convenient for touristy things. If I was here for non-touristy reasons or if I was planning to catch a train then I 100% would.

Frankly, I can't complain. Everything was OK, the only small minus was a little noise I could hear from the street. Very kind reception staff and even better service in the breakfast room. Breakfast itself great, however some changes to the menu would be nice every so often. I got a nice room and it was perfect for business travellers, but altogether soulless. Good thing is the metro station nearby, otherwise it would be quite far from the center. In summary - OK, but that's it.

Our hotel at Crisol Vía Castellana was okay but nothing more - to be honest I expected more, especially from a 4 star hotel. To start with the good things: the service is okay, breakfast is very nice and the metro and busses are right infront of the hotel (you still need to take 2 different trains to get to the most famous places though). Depending on the room you have a view above the street which can be enjoyable. You receive some cute chocolates and cosmetics when you arrive in the room. Nevertheless the hotel really needs a renovation! Starting with the lobby that only has some old and dirty sofas placed inside and could be designed in a way more comfortable way. The rooms really disappointed me!! We booked one king size bed and had two single beds. The safe didn´t work. The water in the shower changed from hot to cold very quickly. Most of the doors and shelfs had damages and looked very used. All in all I wouldn´t choose the hotel again unless it´s been renovated.

Good design and nice comfortable room, good amenities. Not very fancy neighbourhood, but well connected and just walking distance to the train and metro station. Some difficulties with the staff: at the check in we arrived 2 hours early at 12:00; the room was ready, but they asked for an early arriva extra charge. After negotiation they waved the extra charge. The last morning I had a work meeting at 10:00 with 2 people and I asked for coffee but both bars in the lobby and at the pool were closed until 10:30. They agreed to make an exception and to serve coffee before 10:30; the waiter was very annoyed in front of my guests.
