In most ways this is a very easy review to write, but in one way …? Let me deal with the tricky bit first. We know that the resort likes reviewers to mention staff who have gone above and beyond what was expected, but everyone was absolutely awesome, so it’s almost unfair on those we don’t mention. This was our third visit to the resort and we were made to feel like family (actually, to be fair, we were made to feel like family on our first visit as well). We could (and will) mention staff that we interacted with who were awesome, but everyone we met was smiley, helpful and just lovely. This time we did our research to see if there was a different resort that we should try, but none of them seemed to have the vibe that the Taj Coral Reef has. This place has become our own “Shangri-La” – a paradise in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The resort is quite small, which means you will get a very personal service from housekeeping, bar, dining room, spa, gardening and reception. If we mentioned to one member of staff how we like our coffee, then the whole team seemed to know regardless of which restaurant or bar we frequented. After the staff, the other reason this place gets our highest praise is the food. It is all “a la carte” and international. You will never get bored sampling the delights of the kitchen, led by Dinesh and looked after us so well in the restaurant by Imali, Madu, Sajanie, Tariq and many others. I could also mention the outstanding bar staff, led by Sneha, who were all excellent (but if one of the bar staff says, “just one more?” then you know it’s time to go to bed) - and I feel guilty that I didn’t write down the names of everyone we interacted with with. A special mention, however, for the smiliest, most professional and efficient person on the planet, who is Ifaa. We’re really looking forward to coming back next year, but this time we will be bringing our adult children with us (Coral Reef, you have been warned). Thank you for another wonderful escape from real life and enabling us to completely recharge our batteries.
