Pela Mare Hotel

Best travel experience ever.

Absolutely wonderful in every way. Such lovely friendly staff, sparkling clean, incredible views and everything you could hope for! The rooms are modern, great showers, black out shutters, comfy beds. Lovely fresh breakfast and reasonably priced lunch time food. Shame the restaurant wasn’t open in evening because we’d have liked to try it.

We loved this hotel, which was recommended to us by friends who'd stayed several times. The hotel and its location and views are terrific, the staff are all genuinely friendly and eager to help, the room was large and very comfortable, the pool is large and well kept, the breakfasts had a wide choice of delicious food. Definitely a winner.

My first visit to Crete with my partner, and friends had recommended the Pela Mare to us. How right they were as this is a fabulous place to stay. The rooms are all cleverly set back from one another with at least one balcony (our suite had 2!) with lovely views. The staff were all delightful - welcoming, helpful and charming. Sofia on Reception gave us many good ideas for places to visit and was always smiling. Ditto Georges in the office, Maria and Kostas in the bar/restaurant. I'm sorry that i didn't catch the name of our lovely chamber maid. The breakfast was a massive Cretan and continental spread and you didn't need lunch after it! The grounds were immaculate with fragrant and colourful flowers and the pool was extremely well kept. I usually had it to myself. The hotel's restaurant wasn't open in the evening at this time of the season but there were many excellent restaurants in the village although you need a car or taxi. I don't often return to places but I would go back to the Pela Mare.

The staff at Pela Mare are wonderful. They are so polite and very helpful with whatever you may need. The views are breathtaking and unlike other hotels we walked past it's very peaceful and quiet, a lot of couples and younger families, no loud music and ample space during breakfast time. I would say this hotel doesn't cater to vegans that well. When my husband and I asked what was available we were shown vegetarian options, so I'm not sure if the term vegan was fully understood as we explained no dairy, meat etc. There's fresh fruit, vegan homemade granola bars, bread, olive spread and overcooked vegetables from the cooked section. It wasn't great especially as we don't eat bread, jam and the typical options we stay away from for our health. I suppose you would have better options at a 4 or 5 star hotel but as someone that cooks I know that it doesn't take a lot to provide healthy tasty vegan options. They also don't provide the best packed lunch for excursions, so we ended up making our own. If you have any mobility issues keep in mind that the beach in a steep walk up and down from the hotel. My husband and I are fit and it took us 20-25 minutes not the 10-15 minutes everyone seems to be saying. The beach has lovely restaurants with many vegan options and owners are friendly sharing the naturally vegan greek meals. The bathroom is very small and can feel cramped with the toilet right beside the shower. It doesn't look very clean, this may be due to the hotel needing a refurb in this department. Overall it was clean and whilst we wouldn't come back we would still recommend. Renting a car would also be a good option so you can explore more of the island without waiting around for the bus. The staff made it worth while and as mentioned were very friendly and polite.

Outstanding staff and accommodations. Very clean. Location was perfect for exploring entire island. Front desk staff gave good day trip suggestions . Great Breakfast with many choices . No complaints. Beautiful views from balcony. Definitely would return.

The staff at the hotel were amazing, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, they ensured our stay was perfect. I will definitely be returning. The hotel is in a quiet area and only a 15 minute walk to the beach with lots of restaurants and bars

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The pool was pristine and provided a refreshing escape from the heat. The rooms were impeccably clean and the staff's attention to detail was impressive. I highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing and comfortable experience.

The hotel is in a lovely hilltop location with stunning views of the bay below. You will need a car to get there and to move around as the location means that it is quite a climb to the bay below. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The junior suite we had was well appointed and the terrace and private sun deck area welcomed. The suite itself was well equipped with a small kitchenette and separate bedroom. The positioning of the bed was peculiar and not having a headboard strange, as was it being against one wall. Not being a big bed, it was tight for two people especially the one nearest the wall. The toilet seat was also broken, which I am surprised the cleaning people did not notice, as it looked as if it has been this way for a while. We had one dinner in the restaurant. We were the only ones and the food mediocre at best. Breakfast on the other hand was very nice with lots of choice.
