Hotel berhampiran Playa Isla Saona (pública), Mano Juan

I booked 12 nights here for my wife and I. We both had a great time. The choice restaurants was good. Bookings them via the app was quite straightforward. The beach was beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly Mariolos. The only negative was booking through TUI. The TUI rep didn't appear for the duration of our stay. The transfer from the airport was badly organised. But I must stress the hotel/resort was fantastic. If you plan to Scuba Dive I would recommend Dressel Divers 200 metres down the beach.

This hotel superficially looks fine, but on closer acquaintance isn’t good at all. Our room was large, but sparsely furnished. Only one chair in a double room really isn’t great. The food was bad! We ate in the Italian “Restaurant” one evening. This is simply about 12 tables under a canopy with no sides. The food was unappetising and frankly barely edible, the wine we were offered was terrible! We didn’t finish the main course and left. The main buffet is open to the outside, which means it becomes warm and humid, often very uncomfortable to sit in. The food here was also not good. Many dishes were overcooked and meat and fish were hard as a result. Food is left in dishes in the buffet for extended periods, which is very bad food hygiene practice. Because the space is open to the outside, there tend to be a lot of flies around the food. In the dessert area a fridge for ice cream is not cold enough to keep it frozen and it was semi melted. At breakfast time the choice of cereals reduced while we there, until only corn flakes and children’s multi-coloured hoops were left for the last few mornings. One morning the milk was curdled. At the start of our stay there were metal spoons here, by the end only plastic ones. If I want plastic cutlery I’ll go camping! 3 out 4 of us had diahrrea and indeed still do after travelling home, in my own case for a full week. This was undoubtedly due to the poor food hygiene standards. Room cleaning was not great, sand was swept out of the adjoining room and left on the floor in the hall. We had to point out we only had one towel and request more toilet paper several times after the room was serviced. As a result of being unwell at night we had to request clean sheets which took over an hour to arrive. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone and we most definitely would never return to it.
