Would have been 5 star but the rooms are looking tired and would welcome updating. No electronic key access to rooms still the old large key ring and metal key system. Having said this, I still think it is excellent value for money. The location within the park and distance from airstrip is unbeatable. The room is perfectly adequate and beds super comfortable with good quality bed linen. The common areas in the main Lodge are excellent, beautifully set out and decorated. But, what really makes it extra special is the staff - each and every member was so welcoming, warm and kind. During meals in the restaurant their service could not have been better or more professional, particularly Grace (not 100% sure if this is her name….sorry) and Edwin. The game drives are superb. Our driver Alex, I am certain was the best animal tracker and guide in the Mara!!! Also treated myself to a massage treatment at the spa which was very welcome after a long game drive and highly recommend. The Balloon Adventure is a must and the champagne breakfast in the bush divine! Gilbert the pilot also made it very special and much fun! On another note…….sadly, would not recommend the visit to the Maasai Village. Although the people are kind and welcoming and the information about their culture interesting, their general aim and purpose is to get as much money out of you as they can using aggressive pressure tactics, shoving the usual touristy souvenirs down your throat. Was made to feel very uncomfortable and could not wait to get away. Additionally, the amount of litter, particularly plastics strewn all around in abundance gives a very bad impression and has nothing to do with their simple way of life and their living in mid huts. The money you “donate” allegedly goes towards the children’s education, which apart from the academic should include disposing properly of rubbish and taking care of the environment. Would not recommend. Would definitely return to the Muthu Keekorok Lodge though
