Florence Nightingale Suites at Lea Hurst

We had a pleasant stay at Lea Hurst. Very hospitable hosts, beautifully appointed clean property and stunning gardens. Thoroughly recommend.

What a gem of a find. Enjoyed a two night stay over the weekend and I only wished in hindsight we had booked a few more nights. The accommodation faultless rooms spotless and bed so comfortable. The breakfast first class, fresh eggs coming from the estate. A bonus each of the four rooms let out had their own private room with a view to enjoy their meal. Peter and Jen the owners so warm and friendly and incredibly knowledgeable sharing the history of the house and local places of interest to visit and dine in the evenings. I will not hesitate to recommend and most certainly will stay here again whenever we visit the Peak District which will be soon.

From the minute we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome, with warm hospitality. The hardwork and dedication that has been so obviously given over the last few years by the current owners Peter and Jen has made this a lovely relaxing, interesting and beautiful place to stay. The gardens and surrounding views are exceptional. The rooms and breakfast were all to a very high standard, in fact everything was just perfect and we could not have asked for a more enjoyable break. I would highly recommend a stay here for either a special occasion or a few days away.

Wow, what a wonderful place to stay. Beautiful surroundings, magnificent gardens and views wherever you look. Peter is really knowledgeable about Florence Nightingale and her origins and is passionate about showing people how she lived as well as going to extraordinary lengths to obtain furniture etc that would have been in her home and used by her. Peter and Jen have enormous respect for Florence and their home is well worth a visit to stay. Nothing is too much trouble, they go out of their way to accommodate your needs and you will feel very welcome. We had a hotel booked in the lake District and with less than a week to go until our holiday they had to cancel due to covid reasons. We were obviously extremely upset but after coming across Peter and Jen's place we are so glad our original holiday was cancelled- we could not have had a more restful and mentally refreshing stay. Peter and Jen have filled Florence Nightingales previous home with a bustling family, with respectfully tasteful furnishings and a passion to share all of this with guest's. This is a delightful place to stay and feels like you are staying with friends. Peter and Jen make you feel very welcome and their passion for their home and it’s history is fantastic. Breakfast is substantial and of excellent quality. Lovely local walks, if you can bear to drag yourself away from the beautiful house and gardens. I would certainly stay again which is the best recommendation I can give.

This was an exceptional experience. Peter and Jen have lovingly refurbished Florence Nightingale’s house to a high standard, and use it as their family home. As a guest you are lucky enough to join them in their home, enjoying a warm welcome and freedom to enjoy the many interesting places to sit in the beautiful and amazing garden. Incredibly comfortable beds, beautiful garden, wonderful breakfast with muesli, croissants and a full cooked breakfast. Eland great walks along the Cromford canal to the Mill. Stags in the field. Amazing views. It was a surprising and unusual experience.
