Occidental Menorca

Just got back from a great 5 day break at the Occidental Menorca and I would recommend this hotel for those looking for a nice spot for families or a friends break. The resort is nice with colourful buildings and a courtyard style. We were in building four at the rear of the hotel overlooking a quiet side road with a field/distant sea view to the right. Apart from the occasional bus passing we were uninterrupted and with the balcony door closed, it was very quiet. I stayed in a double room with a friend and this was clean, of adequate size and the bed was comfortable. The cleaners come round every day and do a great job to freshen up the room. The pools in the main part of the resort are very nice and are relatively shallow which is good for kids. There are 2 infinity style pools which are nice as well as a small kids pool. If you head down the reception steps and across a path outside, scan your room key and this takes you over to the other half of the resort with another pool and tennis/volleyball courts. The food was very nice, it was varied for the first few days but then became a little repetitive but can’t complain about the quality. Waiters were friendly. The entertainment was great, funny and impressive shows e.g. magic and Disney character acts and the mini disco was great for kids. This is a very family geared hotel so not the most ideal for a quiet couples break as lots of small children but didn’t bother us. Hotel is near a nice sandy beach (although sea is full of thick black seaweed covering the floor) and a few shops and restaurants, bus stop outside reception can take you to Mahon for under 2 euros which is a very nice area to visit- harbour boat trips, nice shops and restaurants. Overall would recommend this hotel to families or friends, we had a lovely stay here ps. Visit the spa if you can, a little expensive but lovely!

Definitely not 4 star. I've stayed in better 3 star hotels. The bed was really uncomfortable for me and my back was sore all week. The shower was very weak and leaked over the bathroom floor making it very slippery. I found the restaurant far to busy and noisy and the food cold. I was all inclusive but only ate lunch in the restaurant as this was a bit quieter. The animation team do a great job.

Mixed feelings about this hotel . As a female solo traveller I do like to go out in the evening and have a wonder round the local area to visit shops/bars/ restaurants etc. if this is what you like doing then sadly this area is not for as there are just a handful of restaurants and 2/3 small supermarkets. The is the only place that I’ve never quite felt comfortable at being a solo travel. It’s very safe but no atmosphere around the area. On to the hotel itself, the reception area is huge and always smelt amazing. All reception staff all so friendly and helpful at all times. Upon arrival I was given a really noisy room at the furthest point away from reception. The room was small and ground floor and a view of a road outside. I’d requested a pool or sea view. Again the reception staff were amazing at rectifying this immediately and even took me to see the new room before i unpacked. Fab service. I only tried the restaurant once as had some kind of bug upon arrival so kept away from food most of my time there. I did visit the local chemist who were really helpful and gave me something to ease my nausea. The main pool is very busy and very loud as this is where all the entertainment happens . In my opinion , mostly catered for French and German visitors. As I wasn’t feeling too good I tended to either chill at the middle pool further down which is next to kids club and there is another beautiful pool aimed at young families, or on other days I would spend my time at the beach . It’s only 5/10 mins walk max number. Great beach shop next to it selling usual touristy things as well as reasonable priced drinks. Beach days were really chilled . Bit of a slight incline back to the hotel but hey you’re on holiday so take your time . I found the hotel to be very generally very clean. But sadly the area was not for me and I wouldn’t return here.

Mixed feelings about this hotel as some aspects were good others not so. We contacted the hotel prior to arrival to request a high floor. This was granted and we got a decent outlook and sunsets from the room. Check in was ok. We arrived early and they advised us where the luggage could be left until room was ready. The room was smaller than we expected , clean and enough wardrobe space. Beds comfortable. Real downside of the rooms is the thin walls. You can hear conversations from other rooms and shower etc. There are a number of different pools and we never failed to get a sun lounger. Location is great for the beach, only a couple of mins down to it. Great for swimming and snorkelling. (very good little shop on the beach offering all the things you might need & very friendly) The food in the hotel was ok but the dining experience is chaotic. Allergy labels few and far between and don't offer much info. The serving stations are close together and it seems too much for the number of guests. Wine is not the best . The animation team were very busy and offered lots to do . Not really any quiet areas if you don't want to join in. We had an incident mid week where we chose not to watch the pink party and went to the bar inside. We had the lights put out on us and other guests and was told this bar is closed very rudely. The literature provided at check said the bar was open till 11:30pm. Complained to the management as don't expect to be asked to leave a venue at 9:pm when it is advertised as being open later to be told its not open when they do outside events. Because of this and the rooms being noisy unlikely to return.

I had to request to be moved to another room, as the first one was unclean and insects were present in the bedroom. I understand that they have previously had a problem with ants. There appeared to be two types of insects . The second room was clean but the shower head which was a small replacement for the larger one (still attached), was inadequate. The shower floor was glossy and very slippy with no supports to hold onto making it dangerous for older people and children. The entertainment was extremely loud which meant having to leave the hotel for relaxation. The family club was the nicest area to relax The resort itself is very beautiful with plenty of restaurants plus supermarkets and a pharmacy

We went for a short break and were not disappointed. Great place to chill out and enjoy the sunshine.

The hotel is clean, the buffet is good and the staff are very attentive. Realistically you can't ask for more with your general services. Each section of the hostel done to a high standard by dedicated staff. However, it must be noted that without the animation team the hotel would lack atmosphere, character and value. The team is of a very high calibre every day. Always with a smile, always dedicated and always present (literally, we are still trying to work out when they sleep!) for the past 9 years I have run a team of 35 people within animation within Valencia and Barcelona and I can say with hand on heart that the team in the hotel (as a team and Individually) are some of the most admirable I have seen. There is clearly dedication to the evening shows with lots of practice (but also some clearly trained skill in their chosen dance styles etc) and throughout the day they still show the same enthusiasm and excitement for each activity they host. They are a credit to the company and deserve a lot of praise (maybe a big Christmas bonus too ;)) - thank you very much to everyone for making our holiday a very pleasant experience!

I went with a group of 8 friends all celebrating big birthdays. This hotel was just perfect for our needs. Hotel staff and entertainment team were really friendly and fun. Always welcoming. We took part in all the daily activities, especially the aqua aerobics and the games. The location is in the quiet town of Punta Prima. Not much going on at night but that’s how we like it. Lots of walks and beach is lovely. Not too many young children as we had expected for September. Food was fantastic, so much variety! Overall it was a great hol, we had so much fun and will be back next year!

The staff were very friendly, welcome and helpful. The resort was kept very clean all the time. The entertainment staff were very talented. We enjoyed the entertainment especially pink show, acrobatics, loin king show.
