Hotel berhampiran Musee Municipal De Meung-Sur-Loire (Gaston Coute), Meung-sur-Loire

Stopped here on our return to Blighty after a 7 hour journey from the deepest south, planned timing having gone a little awry due to personal ineptitude but in the end not a problem really. They have secure parking which is a must for me, coming from the crime riddled UK and working on the basis that everywhere must be at least as bad (not at all true). We’d noted on other reviews that the hotel is not necessarily going to attract passing trade by its looks which, now having seen it, is a fair comment, but really does belie the reality of what lies below the surface. This is a place that we will very definitely revisit both for the hotel, their food and the town. We arrived during rush hour it seemed and so had to recce the area before making a final approach when my co-pilot was launched to advise of our arrival. As a result, the large gates located to the right of the hotel were opened by the proprietor who assisted by halting the traffic whilst the rather narrow and unforgiving entrance was negotiated by my bus. The car park itself is located in a walled area and is indeed as advertised and as about as secure as it gets. There was a very pleasant welcome and we were guided to our ground floor, garden facing room which was modern, clean and well appointed (no tea and coffee facilities though which was a shame). There are possibly 10 or so rooms all facing the garden which is a large walled affair with a terrace/courtyard where meals can be enjoyed. Very pleasant, peaceful and relaxing particularly after a long journey. We’d booked for dinner which is only on offer to residents and was extremely good with a good choice of freshly prepared fare all for around E25 plus wine and coffee, each - bargain! Beaugency itself is a very pleasant, Loire side town and although we went for a wander after dinner, it deserves more exploration since there is bags of history in the town. We will definitely revisit after summer but this time plan it a little better. As regards the Le Beaugency hotel itself I would very definitely recommend a visit including the partaking of their dining facilities, all in all, extremely good value and a very enjoyable stay. The whole lot was just under E174 which included, comfy bed, lovely breakfast and superb evening meal which I’d regard as excellent value.

We have visited this hotel a number of times over the past 15 years or so, including for some special occasions. Firstly the positives, the staff at reception were absolutely great and the manager and staff in the restaurant were also excellent. We had requested a change of room and this was facilitated without any fuss and again the reception staff organised this while we were out. The first room we were in had a very poor bathroom including the shower. There are no slippers or tissues in the rooms which though small items were indicative of what we saw as the small things being let slip. It appeared to us that the hotel is now focused on being a wedding venue and less attention is being paid to hotel. The breakfast was really disappointing and we were comparing it to one available at hotel we had stayed at immediately before arriving here. The coffee machine was a complete disaster and the staff appeared to be very inexperienced and failed to seize the fact that there was a problem and only agreed to make coffees when it was pointed out to them that machine was not working properly. Another guest spoke to me at the machine and said that it was inexplicable that we couldn't get a decent coffee in Italy. The selection of fruit was really poor and it appeared as if staff just added different fruit to top up the dish each day. This is a truly lovely hotel in a beautiful setting and it is a great pity to see if drop it's standards.

Booked last minute for one night to break up the road trip home, paid £160ish for the privilege. Positives: Receptionist and barman were friendly, room was very spacious and linen clean. Negatives: Cheap uncomfortable bed, room may be spacious but feels soulless due to no pictures on the walls and furniture felt more appropriate for a hostel. Overall the room was clean until you look at the bathroom floor which was utterly filthy, more like something you’d see in a public WC. Very large but very old Samsung TV’s, not connected to WiFi so couldn’t log in to Netflix or even screen mirror from phone, so French TV it’ll be to relax then….oh and despite having two TV’s in the room one had to be unplugged as the remote worked both at the same time, genius. Finally the hotel corridors smell like an EasyJet flight returning from Magaluf (I imagine). Thoughts and msg to Mercure; Just because it’s a ‘business’ hotel doesn’t mean customers don’t want home comforts, buy some more pillows, pictures for the walls and upgrade the 10 year old TV’s. While you’re at it how about a headboard covered in fabric & foam so you can sit up comfortably in bed?? Finally I think it’s great that French hotels are so pro-dogs, we really struggle to find places to stay in England with ours but if your going to let people bring them you have to expect accidents so perhaps having your corridor carpets professionally cleaned once in a while might help to ensure the smell of caca goes away??? Vous recherchions un point de chute pour visiter Orléans et à prix raisonnables et nous n'avons pas été déçus. En voiture, vous ètes à environ 30 minutes du centre ville mais juste en face de l'hôtel, vous avez le tram. Cela vous évite de conduire et de trouver une place de stationnement. En plus, il y a aussi un Mac do, collé à l'hôtel pour manger sur le pouce, vous ètes à quelques minutes de l'autoroute et l'hôtel est très confortable et propre. Le personnel est adorable et les petits déjeuners sont très bien surtout pour le prix. Si nous avons l'occasion, nous y renviendrons avec plaisir.

This was the last night of a trip around France staying mainly in Ibis budgets which we normally find perfectly adequate, not here though. We were given a faulty room and had to argue to be given a new one, which could have been done immediately without any fuss. Not a good end to our holiday, a disappointing experience. Perhaps down to poor overall management and staff been overworked in a hotel that need updating. Judging by the comments below we weren't alone.

I found this hotel completely by happenstance when departing Orly airport with a rental car and I knew I would stay here again on furniture trips. I took the first exit near Orléans, and found this hotel. I checked in with no foresight at all, and I was very happy to have found it! I was quite surprised to find the kitchenette. It has everything you’d need to cook in for the evening, which I ventured out for food from a nearby grocery store and stayed in, safe and sound in my room, with food to eat. It was great, nice tv, nice quiet room, nice bathroom. The hotel staff are top notch, and have welcomed me every time with my mediocre French. I love this hotel!

After a challenging drive to Saran from Paris, I appreciated the extra effort that Elena at the front desk provided when I checked in. She was quite knowledgeable about nearby tourists sights and showed an interest in my activities during my stay. She also provided information about restaurants in the area. Fluent in three languages, verbal communication with her was no problem. The room and hotel met my expectations, as the room was clean and comfortable. Kitchen facilities were also available on another floor. Parking was free and conveniently on site. My only disappointment was that I couldn't return to stay there again.

This is a really great location to visit Chateaus: Chambord, Royale de Bloise and Amboise The rooms are good size and very clean. There is an onsite pool and many amenities particularly for bicyclists. However, the best part of the Brame is the staff. The owner, Charlie is incredibly helpful and friendly; an attitude that has rubbed off on all the staff.
