Great place! We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We used their self parking garage, which was very convenient and allowed in and out privileges so we could drive to neighboring Pacific Grove. The rooms were very clean and the hotel was very well maintained. I would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.

In summary, while the setting is lovely, the overall experience does not meet the standards of luxury and convenience expected at this price point.

We booked this place hoping it would be one of the many, very smart independent motels you find throughout CA. Check in was painless and easy. We got a great patio as we had paid for a sea view but it did mean we were around the side of the hotel. The patio doors were surprisingly insecure - held by a small bolt. The room itself was surprisingly small (two double beds), particularly with the fireplace in one corner. The lack of a desk was a shame and we had hoped the room would be smarter/have more character. The bathroom was also relatively small. The beds were very comfortable. Remarkably when we got ready for bed we discovered that the room has no AC - not even a fan! We called reception and they said all the free-standing fans had been given out for the night. We managed to get one our second night but couldn't believe the lack of AC in California - the hotel is older but not so old as to not offer this. The pool was well located and of a good size. However, having been advertised as heated to 80 degrees I would say it was a lot colder. The pool hours (9am-7pm) were annoyingly restrictive, but not uncommon for outdoor pools and explained by the fact that some hotel rooms were right outside it! Breakfast was very poor - a grab and go bag with water, a piece of fruit and an unappetising, dry pastry - which forced us to go elsewhere. Overall given the range of choice and competition in Carmel, and the reasonably high room rate, we were left disappointed. The hotel lacked the character we had hoped for and needs to up its game where AC and breakfast are concerned. We would look to stay somewhere else if we returned to Carmel.

absolute perfect get-away! My wife accompanied me on a two-day business trip and was able to walk to the beach, see sea lions and sea otters in the inlet. It was a great place to relax and enjoy our time. There are several restaurants within walking distance for breakfast lunch and supper. Our room was very clean and well equipped. The owners are always willing to be of assistance if needed. We definitely plan on returning to the Captain's Inn and would highly recommend it to others.

I want to start my review by saying that some folks can be really harsh in their reviews. There are several reviews on the site complaining that the room entry doors for this hotel are exterior doors. This is true. But it is also true that you should do your research before booking. This hotel does not try to hide the fact the room hallways are exterior. If this is a deal breaker for you then don't book this hotel but it is unfair to book it and then complain about a hotel feature that you should have already known about before hand. My wife and I spent 3 nights here. I had a work conference next door at the Embassy suites. This hotel works great if you have a conference next door but are on a tighter budget than the Embassy Suites. Our room was clean and comfortable. Yes, it is a MINOR annoyance that when you have you curtain opens people may walk past your window but certainly not a deal breaker. We were only in our room and the beginning and end of each day so this did not effect us in the least. The breakfast was full of options to keep everyone in a family happy with plenty of seating. We had a room that faced the back of the property that overlooked a small lagoon. The property is near the freeway but not on the freeway as some reviews stated. We felt safe coming and going throughout our stay. The location was conveniently located to all things to do in Monterey Bay Area. If you are worried about exterior halls and security then you should probably consider other options but this property worked great for us and we would stay again on another visit to the Monterey area.

Totally agree with the rudeness of the front desk staff. Got the room on the ground level and told multiple times about smoking restrictions. The moment I entered in the room, there was strongest cigg smoke smell (I am allergic to it) so went back straight to the front desk asking to switch the room. Got another room but for some reason, it was not changed in the system. Room was ok with number of ants and no towels whatsoever in the bathroom. Couple of hours later, someone tried to enter into the room, went out and found there was another family issued the same room. Breakfast was below average and the staff was not very particular about restocking the breakfast items. Next morning at 5:30 am, received a call from the front desk while we all were sleeping with younger kids asking about my name and why I am in that room. It was really rude front desk lady who never bothered to apologize disturbing at that time. Overall, one of the worst experiences at this hotel. Stay away unless you like to be bothered by the staff at unusual times and sleep with the ants. Last not the least, we heard the person in the next room coughing all night long.

Very comfortable hotel conveniently located in downtown Monterey and short distance from 17 Mile Drive. Rooms are spacious and staff is very friendly. Room amenities are: individual sized coffee pot and mini fridge as well as standard hair dryer, toiletries and iron. Microwaves can be delivered to your room by request at no additional cost. The Marriott has a bar and serves breakfast (not included in room rate) and other meals. It is connected to the Monterey Convention Center so if you are attending a conference, this is the best place to be. If you need parking, be aware, only valet parking is available at $40 per day with in and out privileges. There are a couple parking garages with hourly rates within a couple block walk, they do not have in and out privileges. Valet service takes about 10-15 minutes to get your car depending on time of day. Mornings were a little longer wait. Wifi is not free unless you are a Bonvoy Member, you can sign up on the spot. Would stay here again.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my wife while on vacation. Frequent fliers of Embassy Suites, and this location is exactly on par with what you'd expect from the brand. The location of this hotel is fine, with close proximity to a variety of restaurants, a gas station, easy to get to the wharf area in Monterey. We stayed in a standard king room, and it is the typical 2-room suite layout in most Embassy locations. The room as clean, and the bed was comfortable. The shower worked great the first night, but the second night it did not get very hot. It was late, so we did not bother trying the front desk about it. Both TV's in the room were equipped with a Chromecast that had a web portal you could sync a device to. Very nifty being able to cast from our phones, something every hotel should adopt! The breakfast was top notch for a complimentary buffet. Eggs/omelets cooked to order, a variety of other hot and cold breakfast items, juice/coffee/soda, baked goods etc. The happy hour at night (included in the room rate!) was great, and had 2 specialty drinks, beer, wine, and well liquor available. The drinks are very standard, but they are absolutely free! There are also light snacks available. We did not use the pool or gym, though both looked clean. The pool is indoors but did not appear to be heated. One thing to note: parking fee is $20, and there is also a resort fee of $15/night that is charged. The resort fee ”includes” wifi, bike rental, and a $15/credit for the gift shop or restaurant. We figured either way you're paying $15 per day extra, so we used $15 at the gift shop both days for snacks & coffee. There is a Starbucks inside the gift shop which this applies to!

Le Petit Pali at 8th was amazing! We celebrated my 30th here from Fort Worth, TX and had such an amazing trip. We brought our 7 month old son and had baby rental gear delivered via BabyQuip. Karen and Shaq set up the gear and moved us to a bigger room before we got there which was so sweet, we definitely felt welcomed as a family. Shaq was so helpful with recommendations and Karen was always checking in to see if we needed anything. The champagne breakfast is a fun touch and Natalie our waitress was on top of it. I always felt like staff was on top of cleanliness and our room was always so clean. Valencia the housekeeper did a great job and I loved that they were always cleaning around our time out of the room and trying to make in convenient for us. The decor of the entire place is precious and such a fun vibe and the T3 straightener, blow dryer, and clothes steamer are nice additions as well! This would be a great place for a girls trip, couple, or families. I previously read concerns on parking and the walls being thin but I will say the little amount of foot traffic I heard from the room upstairs didn’t bother us or the baby at all, and the parking during December wasn’t much of an issue either. If having a parking lot is priority then you could select the ocean ave property that Le Petit Pali has. Chris at the front desk was super helpful at checkout explaining the differences in properties so I know for next time but we would definitely come back here because of the great touches and the customer service! The room did have a mini fridge but I also needed a freezer for ice packs for my breastmilk and the front desk was happy to keep the ice packs in their freezer up front, just a note for moms traveling with milk. Thanks for an amazing 30th birthday trip! A note on the AC….most hotels in Carmel don’t have them which worried me a bit being from Texas but in December we kept a window open during the day and heater on at night and the temp was perfect.

It was a nice hotel the pool is heated. The breakfast says continental but it really just pastries, fruit and juice but it was good still. Be aware there is no microwave at least not in the room we got and the doors use old fashioned keys instead of key cards and have to locked by pushing the button on the inside when leaving a mistake we didn't realize till later. Otherwise its a nice hotel and a short walk into town.

Perfect location & reception staff were lovely, however the room could’ve been so much cleaner, hairs were found in the toilet, on the bathroom floor, on the floor of the bedroom & on the bedside tables. The rooms were super noisy- we could hear everything from the room above. The stay was fine for one night but any longer the cleanliness would have to be improved on. A shame as it could be an amazing place.

One of the most gorgeous Hyatt properties that I’ve been to. Beautiful ocean view, quaint yet modern rooms, lots of plants, close by to point lobos state park, Carmel, Monterey, Big Sur. 2 bedroom units are spacious enough for 2 adults and 2 adult kids. Heated swimming pool during the winter is a plus. Gym is good more for aerobic exercises than weight training but weights and machines are available. BBQ grill available to use, and Safeway is only a mile away. Highly recommended.

We were visiting from Argentina, only stayed for one night. The moment we walked into our room, we wished we could stay longer! We were at the Inn, at room 27, we did not stay at a cottage. The room was more beautiful than it showed on the web page. Newly renovated, spacious and impeccably clean. The bed was really comfy and shower was great. Bathroom amenities were a nice detail. Falling asleep with the croak of frogs and waking up to the views of the river right from the balcony was amazing. The Inn is a short drive to downtown Carmel-by-the-sea, 27 mile drive and Big Sur. There are restaurants nearby but would really recommend ordering to go to enjoy every second of your stay at this wonderful place. 100% loved it and would really recommend it.

I can't pick words how great it is.. but I want to provide details. First and foremost. we stayed 1 night on May 18, we got room 328, this is a suite with fantastic location and it is very very quiet. I and my wife celebrated 22 years of our first date and initially we wanted to pick Ritz in Half Moon bay but we decided to give this place a try.. and oh boy - we will never go back to Ritz. 1. Hospitality. staff is awesome. reception is the most welcome and I want to say - naturally welcome. Very smiley. 2. Valley Kitchen restaurant is fantastic and I can't find another word. it is probably the best restaurant in Carmel. it has a European charm I absolutely love. We dined and had a breakfast. both were great. 3. ”Little things matter the most”. you know what I do not like? it is a extra charge for cappuccino if you take buffet breakfast. I love to run this test, we travel to Hawaii often - 90% of restaurants do it. they say ”drip coffee is included but cappuccino is not”. Valley Kitchen waiter just said ”Oh. I will bring you a cappuccino and it will be on us.” . I love it. 4. room is great by the most highest standards. it has a soaking bathtub on balcony and we spent an hour inside sipping champagne. 5. fireplace with automatic timer - fantastic. you just click ”30 min” and it will go down in 30 min. 6. large bathroom with a toilet inside separated by the extra door. 7. cocktails at the bar - they have a special in house receipts - I tried one on whiskey and my wife got a lavender one. we repeated them. both are just awesome. 8. We tried to book Spa, but it was full.. I assume it is very good because I called them for 2 days in advance and they always apologized that all is booked, and could not find a spot for facial. you should book in advance . on a scale from 1 to 10 it is 11. there is only one hotel in my life I would put on the same level of excellence - it is Four seasons on Maui.. nothing else is better. Thank you, we will return back for sure !

absolute perfect get-away! My wife accompanied me on a two-day business trip and was able to walk to the beach, see sea lions and sea otters in the inlet. It was a great place to relax and enjoy our time. There are several restaurants within walking distance for breakfast lunch and supper. Our room was very clean and well equipped. The owners are always willing to be of assistance if needed. We definitely plan on returning to the Captain's Inn and would highly recommend it to others.

Convenient location, and a nice big King room, but a few drawbacks: lack of instructions for the room: the shower tap is mislabelled, with ”hot” delivering cold water only, the temperature controller was unusual and not intuitive, and does not provide any cooling, only heating. The lighting in the bathroom was not sufficient, with the larger shower being a dark area. It was a pity that Covid-19 had caused a halt in the advertised sit-down breakfast services - with only hot coffee and a paper bag with fruit juice, an apple and packaged bakery item available for collection each monrning at reception, a short walk up the road.

Enjoyed every night here. Complimentary adult beverage at the bar first night stay of the hotel was nice. But the best part was knowing 24 hr beach access right in front of our room was the best decision I ever made. Views were great. Not too far from down town. Definitely would recommend.

The rooms were OK nothing great and seemed clean but water waste could be avoided with newer toilet and shower valves. This non water waste had a sticker in the bathroom. The breakfast was serve yourself and very basic. The pool looked clean but the spa had an baby in it with a diaper on and the grown ups [parents?] didn't care but we did. All in all very pricey for what we got and the add on taxes/fees really kicked up the price...beware.

Very comfortable hotel conveniently located in downtown Monterey and short distance from 17 Mile Drive. Rooms are spacious and staff is very friendly. Room amenities are: individual sized coffee pot and mini fridge as well as standard hair dryer, toiletries and iron. Microwaves can be delivered to your room by request at no additional cost. The Marriott has a bar and serves breakfast (not included in room rate) and other meals. It is connected to the Monterey Convention Center so if you are attending a conference, this is the best place to be. If you need parking, be aware, only valet parking is available at $40 per day with in and out privileges. There are a couple parking garages with hourly rates within a couple block walk, they do not have in and out privileges. Valet service takes about 10-15 minutes to get your car depending on time of day. Mornings were a little longer wait. Wifi is not free unless you are a Bonvoy Member, you can sign up on the spot. Would stay here again.
