Golf View Hotel & Spa

This is our third stay at the hotel and won’t be our last. We had massages which is the best we have ever received anywhere, they were amazing. Food was lovely and service was great. The room was beautiful and clean. Lovely stay can’t wait to visit again.

Pleasant hotel with a beautifully-tended garden & fabulous views over the beach & Moray Firth towards the Black Isle opposite. Spent 3 nights in one of their Junior Suites on the top floor, which enjoyed the same lovely views. Tricky to photograph them, though, as the outside of the windows were spattered with salt spray & bird poo & the windows were fitted with safety locks so couldn't be opened fully. The staff were friendly, cheerful & professional, The dining room menu was decent enough, but no daily specials were ever offered. However the bar was able to supply my regular tipple (plain, unspiced tomato juice) which many hotels have been unable to provide in the past, so that was a definite plus. Most of the pre-arrival requests we'd made for our room had been supplied, but the jug of fresh milk for our mini-fridge was very small, only lasted our first night & wasn't replenished until I requested it again. The only clothing storage space was in the wardrobe & its shelves. One of those shelves was taken up by the safe & there was no drawer space elsewhere apart from 2 slim drawers in the dressing table. Even the bedside tables were simply large cupboards. Space which could have held a small chest of drawers or tallboy was either empty or contained a vast telescope on a tripod. We reported 3 problems in our room after our first night: 3 dead insects in the shower stall which were there on our arrival, a broken bedside table catch (on which I scratched myself) & a television which started suffering from severe digital reception problems after being on a short time. An engineer was sent up to deal with the TV, but although we were assured no other room had similar problems, our TV continued to suffer throughout our stay & its screen continued to flag the message that it was down to poor digital reception. The broken, sharp bedside table latch was never repaired & as for the 3 dead insects, they remained in our shower stall for our entire stay, despite daily reminders to reception - luckily, we prefer baths! Our final issue concerns the room safe. We're used to room safes where each resident inputs their own private code for the duration of their stay. However, the code for this safe was preset. Once we knew ours, it wasn't difficult to work out the codes for every other room safe in the hotel. And if we could work it out, so could everyone else. As a result, we didn't feel it was at all secure & didn't use it. Of course there's always the downstairs hotel safe option, but having once had my valuables stolen from the safe in a hotel manager's office we tend not to use that option either.

Wonderful spa break for me and my daughter. Lovely place, lovely staff, excellent facilities, great value for money.

I simply cannot understand why such a very good hotel would let themselves down so badly with such a truly dreadful restaurant. There are lots of good points here, and only one really surprisingly bad one. But that bad one really is inexplicably bad. GOOD: - With a perfect location right on the water, an impressive building, and an interior to match, this is a very good and prestigious hotel. - The whole place has been expensively furnished and decorated, giving a consistent feeling of quality throughout the hotel. - Even our basic "classic" room was large, well appointed, and with a really high standard bathroom. - Staff are friendly and efficient. - The room tariffs are sensible value for the standard and facilities. - The restaurant is situated in a lovely open conservatory with super views ( but see below). BAD: The menu and food offer in the restaurant is a truly astoundingly and inexplicably bad let-down. Having just finished a 2 week tour of Scotland we have experienced a variety of hotels and their restaurants at varying budgets, but nowhere has there been such a ridiculous imbalance between the quality of accommodation and the quality of restaurant. Apart from the lovely surroundings, the food itself here is no better than your average pub restaurant, with a very basic menu and a total lack of any attempt to match or complement the quality and prestige of the hotel itself. Why? It's baffling. How on earth can management justify this ludicrous imbalance? Surely when aiming at whatever sector of the market, a business needs to ensure consistency in the level of quality offered. To whom are they trying to appeal here? Who is their target clientele? It's as if these are two totally separate businesses catering for two very different demographics: A high quality prestige hotel, and a basic glorified pub restaurant. So we will very happily be returning here to the hotel, but will very definitely eat elsewhere.

Truly stunning set right not the coast with great views of the sea. Worth paying extra for the sea view. Room was really nice, with a kind of oldie world Agatha Christie feel to it (old radio and dial telephone in room). Was great to sit and look out at the sea and have a few drams of Strathspey whiskey. Breakfast was really nice but didn't have dinner. Only slight gripe is you can't sit in the lovely area with big windows overlooking the sea next to the bar, you have to be having a meal.

From the minute you enter the beautiful hotel your met by friendly cheery staff . Our room with amazing sea views was beautiful and clean . Our breakfast and meals were excellent quality delivered by welcoming and cheery staff . The spa adds to the relaxation plus the treatments were heavenly . Would highly recommend and I will be returning

Fantastic, amazing place to stay, room beautiful, very clean, very comfortable, every need accommodated for, absolutely loved staying here, can’t wait to come back, from first arriving a lovely lady on reception ( blonde bob didn’t catch her name) made us feel very welcome a first class first impression, had spa treatments whilst there, I have been to many spas and this was the best massage and facial I’ve had so a big Thankyou to Rosanna, all the staff were so friendly, our house keeping lady was also super friendly (June) , I literally cannot fault the place, the location makes this a very special place to visit and the food in the restaurant was delicious and well presented.

The hotel was clean and tidy lovely reading/relaxing area. We had a few issues with the food, first day at breakfast the waitress forgot to put our order through, and we waited and waited and eventually had to ask for it, they apologised but no what can we do for you, the second day our dinner which was just ok again took ages, so ordering food be prepared to wait. The bedroom was fine but the pillows were really flat and had no support whatsoever.

From the minute you walk in you can feel how special this place is. Beautiful building, my room was gorgeous, love the newspaper for a personal touch and the spa was perfect. Food was amazing as always. decent gin selection too. Great night away for a treat.
