This was my second stay at the hotel. The staff is friendly and the pudding was very tasty! Highly recommended!

Nice location in a quiet area but close enough to the city centre. Very friendly staff and nice amenities and rooms.

比較大的青年旅館，生活設施完善，並沒有私人衞生間（攜程給了補償）。提供免費的斐濟果品嚐。衹是室內電源不在床頭，停車場有點侷促。總的來説性價比高。

Awesome place to stay in Nelson to chill or meet new friend. The team is adorable ; kind and helpful to make you confortable and to organise your trip. I used to stay in TBB when I just arrived in Nelson. I have great memories from there. Recommend 100 per cent !

Amazing hostel ! The best in Nz. Very social but also space to chill. Outside areas are very inviting under the magnolia tree or in the living room by the fire. Comfy bed but be aware that the wall are thin but that is written on the website. Staff very helpful and friendly. And the best part is free chocolate pudding at 8.00 pm, don't miss it !

One of the best hostel in Nelson, welcoming friendly staff, comfortable beds. Close to the town and beach. Every day free chocolate pudding. Cozy atmosphere all around the hostel, good place to be if you want quiet hostel not a party hostel.

I booked a private room, but ended up sleeping in my car because of bed bugs in my room. The evening guy wasn't helpful at all and seemed to think I could still sleep there, I did not. The day after I talked to Fran in the reception, she was very kind, helpful and service minded. She informed me that they were doing everything in their power to treat the bugs. She also refunded me for my entire stay, and paid for a new hostel. I was supposed to stay here for two nights. Fran also emailed me later to check in and to ask how I was doing. Hostel gets a 3/5 only thanks to Fran, she was a 5/5 in service!

We are sorry about the response you got from our other team member who you spoke to in the evening. Honestly, it’s such a rare occurrence for this to happen. At the time, he had been with us for over a year and it was the first time he’d had this complaint. We have since reviewed this as a team and in hindsight, we would have done something differently. After you left we thoroughly checked the room, hot washed everything, fumigated the room & shut it off for a few days. During this process we didn’t see any further bugs so that was good. Being a busy hostel with travellers arriving from all over the world this does sometimes happen. It’s super annoying. We do our best but even so, the odd bug does get in. I hope the rest of your trip went well.

I stayed in the Tasman bay backpackers a few nights, the hostel is very nice and clean, and the location is great, but the receptionist Blake was very unfriendly since I checked in. My last day in the hostel I asked him if a friend could come say goodbye to me as I was leaving Nelson and he said no visits where allowed, although there was an European girl visiting a friend, and it was 6pm (visit time was supposed to be until 8 30). He was very unhelpful and seemed to have a problem with me being there.

Regarding having non paying friends over - we have put a lot of thought into this. Where we have got to is this - we prioritise our guests and their experience. If everyone had friends over then that would mean a lot of extras and would impact the vibe of the hostel (and potentially how safe & relaxed our guests feel). My staff do have some flexibility on this depending on a number of different factors. We are lucky to have a great park across the road and many cafe's nearby and we suggest guests meet their friends there or encourage their friends to come join them to stay at the hostel.

This is a really nice hostel. We stayed in a private room but used the kitchen, laundry and dining area. Enjoyed the chocolate pudding. The description of the Backpackers is very honest. We could hear a bit of noise from the kitchen which was near our room but is was just a gentle chatter or clatter. It didn't disturb us and I actually don't mind mild background noise. Like living somewhere with other people moving about. Was quiet late at night. Laundry charge was quite modest and less than another Hostel entity charged when I stayed there in 2019. There was some wear and tear such as a leaky tap in the kitchen, but very clean. Stayed 3 nights and would stay again. They had a small bus so they might pick up people by arrangement but I am not sure as we had use of a car.
