The Blossom Manoir · Orient Treasury, located in the heart of Lujiazui, Pudong, Shanghai, is a "century-old modern Republican-era mansion" that serves as a hidden gem in the bustling city. This impeccably preserved historical architecture, originally designed by a British architect, blends Western elements with distinctive Shanghai-style aesthetics. Once the private residence of Pudong's "wealthiest tycoon," it was completed in the early 1930s after years of construction and witnessed Shanghai's golden era of "comprador culture" and its reputation as the "Oriental Paris" during the 1930s-1940s.
The hotel features a rare Shanghai-inspired courtyard structure comprising a main building, annex, central courtyard, and surrounding verandas. Its 17 guest rooms, distributed across the main and annex buildings, exude the luxurious ambiance of an aristocratic estate while showcasing the eclectic elegance of Shanghai's East-meets-West heritage.
Unique amenities include a literary lounge, VIP reception hall, tea house, Taizhou-style private dining, and a bespoke bar. All displayed artworks and paintings are original pieces by renowned contemporary artists. Complemented by regular "Treasury Art Exhibitions," the property offers guests not just accommodation but an immersive artistic experience.
Amidst the vibrancy of Shanghai's waterfront, this landmark invites travelers to witness the century-old transformations and modern grandeur of the "City of Eternal Blossoms."
"When I arrived, the first thing I looked for was the sign at the entrance – it truly felt like I was staying in a protected heritage site! 😊 It was quite a unique experience.
The building itself isn't large, but it's full of antique charm. It's newly renovated, and the room looked exactly like the photos advertised. While the overall building is compact, the room itself was surprisingly spacious for a hotel. The best part, and you'll realize it once you're there, is the fantastic natural light. It beautifully illuminates the aged walls, tiles, and doorways, creating a truly stunning atmosphere.
When I checked in, the hotel informed me about some activities. Initially, I thought they would be group sessions. However, they turned out to be one-on-one: a very professional cocktail-making class and an incredibly dedicated incense crafting session.
I had already checked out, as my schedule had kept me from attending these activities. But the hotel staff went out of their way to arrange them for me at a different time slot. I'm extremely grateful for their thoughtfulness.
If you're planning to stay here, I highly recommend including the hotel activities in your itinerary; they are genuinely worthwhile. I can't recall the bartender's name, but he was incredibly knowledgeable, explaining various spirits and their history, and I ended up trying several drinks. The incense crafting instructor was a lovely lady named Alice, who was incredibly patient and attentive, especially since my little one is quite young; she guided us through it very carefully."
