Parador Monte Carmelo

Parador Monte Carmelo was just the perfect place to stay for my 3 weeks in Oaxaca. I was in the city to attend language school and this lovely hotel was my home away from home. The room was spacious and clean, with a small refrigerator to keep my cold drinks and food. They brought in a separate table for me to use as a desk. Every morning I was greeted by the friendly staff, for a quick breakfast before school. The room was clean and tidy every day when I returned. The breakfast I had on the weekends was so delicious with typical Oaxacan flavors, as well as classic breakfast selections. Don't pass on the Jugo Verde! The location can't be beat. Away from the loud late night bars but so very close to the city center. I highly recommend staying at this charming hotel when you plan your visit to Oaxaca Centro.

It is a nice place, but it needs a bit of TLC. The bedroom was big, so was the bathroom but it needs tables or stands for personal items, not enough lights in the room either.

. Daniel on the front desk was very accommodating. He even helped book 2 days of professional tours. The hotel was clean and very nice. Staff all A1. We stayed for 4 nights. Easy to get to all Centro sights. We would return. Try them,it is great.

The hotel is nice but I found it expensive for what it is and breakfast was not included. The restaurant had just opened, so the NYE party was very disorganized and expensive. We listened to Christmas songs even though I requested to change the music. The playlist repeated at least 4 times.

Money was taken from my room during the day, they broke into my room a 2nd time in the evening. I reported the 2nd incident and staff was extremely rude. The woman in charge, Adriana, was condescending and disregarded my safety concerns. She suggested I was lying, she did offer to call tech person to review cameras and told me I would need to pay for it. She told me stories of how in the past guests had made up false stories of theft and how hotel had threatened to press charges. I felt threatened, not only had my privacy had been violated, I was called a lier and was told that cameras would prove no one went into my, despite, her not having seen them yet. How was she sure they wouldn't find anything? Why would I report something this serious if I wasn't 100% sure they stole and broke in again? I booked 2 nights, Oct 17 and 18, only stayed 1 because of this. I was told they would send me video with proof that I was lying, still waiting. Hopefully owner sees this and contacts me directly, my contact information should be in my reservation card. Room and location were fine, if you stay here, BEWARE of your belongings, I went through great lengths to hide money, they still found it.

Nice place, clean rooms, hot water, nice patio, feels safe, overall great stay. Only annoyance was the nearby cathedrals early morning bells! :)

Lovely hotel, beautiful views of the mountains from the roof terrace. This area of Oaxaca is my favourite to stay in - walkable to the zócalo, Jalatlaco and Xochimilco, and the bus station but a quiet oasis to sleep! Recommend this hotel highly.

Excellent week long stay during the celebrations for Dia des los Muertos. Perfect location for exploring the historic and colorful areas of Oaxaca...also the rooftop terrace was a wonderful place to watch the parades go by and also relax in the evening. Our room was large with a comfortable bed and large bathroom. All amenities were better than basic and we received daily waters and anything else we asked for like extra towels etc. The entire staff from housekeeping to front desk was wonderful and friendly and helpful. It was a joy to stay here and I would choose this Parador again in a heartbeat!
