PPengguna TetamuVery atmospheric and cozy ryokan. Traditional style room and majestic mountains view are breathtaking.
The food is fantastic, you dine privately in peace and also provided with unlimited amount of drinks for 90 minutes.
There are private and common (men/women) baths available. Water temperature is comfortable and magically washes away your fatigue.
Personnel is kind and helpful, they used translator to explain everything to me.
I was provided with shuttle bus on check-in and check-out to nearby station (kawaryo onsen station).
This place is perfect if you want to detox from city bustle and cleanse your thoughts.
Nearby konbini is 1h away on foot (or 15 min on car) so I advise you to stock up your supplies in advance if you need any.

PPengguna TetamuSuch a flawless experience for osen and meals. Osen water is No.1 quality. The dinner and breakfast just AMAZING! All the food are from local ingredients. They are not only healthy and tasty, but also they are just like an art piece that made by the chef. The beds are just perfect and so comfy. The free pick up and drop off from bus terminal is the life saver. Kudos to the team and thank you so much for this amazing hospitality. We had a wonderful time in hear and hoping to come back to Kusatsu again with this hotel!

PPengguna TetamuThis was my first and only stay at a ryokan so I don’t have much to compare it to. I chose this lodging because of the cats and good reviews on the food. The cats were really sweet and I enjoyed playing with them. I have 2 cats of my own so it was really nice. The food was so beautiful and delicious - the mushroom soup at dinner was amazing. I really enjoyed it. The private bath rooms were very convenient and open 24 hrs. I thought the facilities were clean and very pleasant. The location was very close to the central area and a quick walk to all the important sites including the bus station. The only comment I have was in the morning someone was smoking and the smell got ****** into the 2nd floor hallway so maybe more care should be taken to be sure the smoke stays outside. The host was so nice and sweet and I used google translate to ask questions. The matcha madeleines are so tasty I bought a box to take with me.

PPengguna Tanpa NamaTraditiona Japanese-style Ryokan that has been renovated. But still lacks something, like a heating system, so heaters have to be placed throughout the building. Location near Kusatsu onsen's landmark.
The staff are polite and very very good service (Omotenashi). Breakfast is good but a bit early (end at 9am).
Onsen is gorgeous. The room is spacious and bright. Pillowcase and futon sheets need more cleanliness.
No WiFi signal in the room, have to go to the lobby.

Stayed in a traditional tatami room and it was so Japanese in the best way – futon, tatami smell, the whole ryokan fantasy.
Super cosy, perfect if you’re here to soak, chill, and live your best onsen‑town main‑character life.
Buildings & facilities
Hotel has three blocks, all connected via the main building, so you’ll always pass through it anyway.
Most of the good stuff – hot springs, buffet etc. – is in the Annex building where I stayed, so it was really convenient, just no Yubatake view (that’s only for the main building rooms).
Location & mini shopping zone
They literally have their own shopping area on the first floor of the main building, right by Yubatake and the hot spring street, so you can roll out of the hotel in yukata and start browsing.
Super easy to snack, shop, then hop back into the onsen without feeling like you “went out”.
Transport & walking in snow
There’s a shuttle bus to the nearest public transport stop, so luggage days are easy.
You can walk it in under 10 minutes, but in snow season the road gets icy and crazy slippery, so honestly not recommended unless you trust your shoes (and your balance).
Staff & service energy
Hotel staff are amazing – super friendly and actually proactive.
Besides Japanese and English, some staff speak Mandarin and will just switch to it to help you out, and they’ll even offer to take photos for you before you have the chance to ask, which is perfect for solo or shy travellers.

SSuriani KLocation is 10 mins walk from Kusatsu bus station with slight slope street. Room is quite spacious for 2 person and 2 luggages. Good that all hotel information has been translated in english and are very clear and helpful EXCEPT entrance has no information to take off shoes as Japanese tradition. When we came, reception staff was on break and seem he might be the only person handled everything. Overall location is prime for this place.

CChayaphol LeeraphanteThe hotel is very popular among the Japanese traveller. Lots of Japanese with very limited foreign traveller. The communication can be a bit difficult at the hotel.
The room were cleaned but there is limitation of daily cleaning of the room. They only take trash out and change towels. The policy is to clean the room every 4 days.
When the hotel is fully occupied, there is a problem with the scarcity of hot water. We have to wait for hot water to be reproducing 2 out of 3 nights we stayed.
The buffet is very crowded and the food are pretty much the same for all 3 nights we stayed for both breakfast and dinner. Our highlights are the crab and the beef station for dinner and the live onigiri station for breakfast.
