This is now the second time we have stayed at Abbey House and our second visit was just as fantastic as the first. The bedrooms are spotlessly clean and newly decorated. There is great attention to detail, a chocolate on your dressing gown and homemade shortbread biscuits in a jar in the room. Vicky and Gary are lovely and friendly and can’t do enough for you. You can choose your delicious hot breakfast and time you’d like it the night before and there is also cereal, yoghurt, toast and fruit to choose from and endless amounts of freshly brewed coffee and all the flavours of tea you could want. The B&B is right in the centre of Penrith and only a 15 minute drive into the heart of the Lake District. There are lots of things to do within walking distance…a leisure centre, Lowther Castle, Brougham Castle, lovely walks along the river and some very nice shops, bars and restaurants in Penrith itself. I would nightly recommend staying here and we will definitely be back. Thanks Vicky and Gary for a wonderful stay!

Outstanding, I had a superb stay ,the George is unique Whilst, having a timeless aspect ,magnificent historic building it has modern features, and aspects,that make it very comfortable. The best hotel experience, I have had for year's, I am looking forward to staying again, a perfect end to my Christmas break.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean room and lovely breakfast for a reasonable price. Great location near the train station. Ideal stopping off point for our journey to the Lake District. Looking forward to staying here again next year.

The Roundthorn made our wedding day on Sat 9th March better than perfect. From the bar and kitchen staff to the waiting on staff, to Anouska our brilliant wedding co-ordinator and the reception team the attention to detail, friendliness and helpfulness, the quality/presentation of the food, the room décor – and even the fancy toilet paper – all was commented on by our guests as out of this world. Our 130 guests unanimously said that this wedding was the best that they have ever been to. There are very few venues and teams like this place.

We stayed one night and really enjoyed our experience. The room was very comfortable and quiet and the shortbread, tea and coffee facilities make a nice uplift on a basic service. Food at the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast was delicious and the staff friendly and helpful. We left feeling relaxed and well fed and ready for our long drive.

Stayed here several times, even a couple of times when they had only just re opened following each of the Covid lockdowns and always enjoyed, had a fab welcome and the rooms are clean. Not saying its perfect for everyone as some of you will not be a fan of the gold and red decor in the rooms , reception and corridors. But its not shabby its just old fashioned. The bathrooms are moden and the bar and restaurant have had a face lift with a not ultra moden colour scheme of cream and blue but it suits the building style. Dont expect spa, gym or pool and dont expect room service or cocktails. But you will always get a warm and friendly welcome and service. The setting is off the beat and track , but worth finding this gem, at the side of the woods , with stream running over waterfall and rock oh and keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels. Food is good at breakfast though no veggie sausages which some did complain about, food is good value in the evening though a limited choice of 4 starters 4 mains and 4 puds including a veggie option. Yorkshire portions for the main and loads of veg. Bar prices higher than pub prices but not that bad for a hotel.
