Our three nights day was stunning. Way better than I expected. As a long time adventure traveler, I tend to be a little cynical about these places, expecting them to be a little commercial and/or culturally “basic“. I booked so that my son could enjoy the slides, but I had a lovely time too. The vibe was kind, relaxed, yet conscientious and principled. The patrons were an international mix; they felt educated; chill, occasionally stylish, yet unpretentious, I’d say. Large sprawling gardens that I got lost in every day without fail, lol; and that big Buddha head with the built-in swim up bar – wow, love! Even the slides looked way cooler than in the photos, with the palm trees behind them – stunning.
Our room was very nice with everything one might need including excellent aircon. I appreciated the public sorting bins in the grounds with separate recycling, compostables and landfill bins – a significant yet pleasant surprise after seeing how much this part of Thailand is struggling with plastic /rubbish.
From the time we arrived, the staff were so kind and attentive. I had a sprained ankle and they kindly gave me a bag of ice to rest with. Another time we asked for our water to be replenished as we were going back to our room; somehow the water was waiting for us by the time we got there. I’m not sure what sorcery managed that! There’s a Medical Centre on site that was very helpful as my son had just had a cat scratch on Phi phi Island. They arranged a taxi ride to the main doctor surgery for treatment and then drive us back. It cost significantly less than what we’d been quoted on the island. The pool attendants of course are trying to marshal the kids so that they don’t have accidents; they are firm but fair and yet the Scallywaggs still get away with it… breakfast is an international banquet with just about anything you might wish for. Delicious and nutritious. The hotel is very close to the beach as well where there are great sunsets to be enjoyed. The head of the big Buddha can be seen from the beach.
Great shops, street eats, restaurants and markets in close proximity. Perfect.
