It was only a short trip of two days in Pisa before moving on to Palermo. My first time in Pisa. So we tried to book a cheap hotel room there because we would be out exploring the area and only needed a place to sleep. Pros: The Hotel IL Giardino is situated behind the historic retaining wall of the Piazza dei Miracoli. It's only 5 minutes on foot from the hotel to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, only half a minute walking before you can see the tower. The bed was fairly comfortable and there was a little fridge in my room. The hotel feels safe and has suitable door locking systems. The staff are friendly and kind. The roof terrace is quiet and cozy. Cons: Unfortunately my room doesn't have windows, only a skylight that couldn't be opened. The only fresh air was exclusively from the air conditioner. No lamp on the bedside table. Warm water in the shower doesn't come until after 5 minutes and with low pressure. The room door lock is very loud when opening and closing, especially at night when the people are asleep, also impossible to close door quietly and a loud beeping when the key card is used. The walls are poorly soundproofed. There is a little bar inside, but it was closed over the whole time we stayed there. My travel partner moved into the room opposite to mine. His room was a little better, a bedside lamp, better partitioning of the room, but also no windows in the walls. Really annoying: I paid the same as my travel partner for a different state of quality and comfort. Summary: The Hotel Il Giardino has allegedly better and more comfortable rooms in the premises. If you are traveling through and stay for a night or two, and you don't want to really reside there, this kind of room may a solution - if you don't have claustrophobia. But: the value for money is bad. It is relatively expensive, because of the famous sights there. + clean house and clean rooms + close to the Leaning Tower of Pisa + secure room door locks + fairly comfortable bed + little fridge in the room + air conditioner in single room + nice rooftop terrace + nice staff - no windows inside - no possibility to open the single skylight - no fresh air from windows possible - cold to tepid water temparature in the shower - claustrophobic ambience - slightly poor soundproofed walls - very loud door lock - low value for money

Access is via a galleria and sadly dilapidated as some units are empty. However once through the doors, everything is as it should be. Friendly and helpful, English speaking staff. The hotel is literally 2 minutes from the main station and although that means that it is the opposite side of town from the Leaning Tower, no distances in Pisa are that large. We had one outstanding breakfast and had to leave too early to get a second. However we should have accepted the offer of a packed breakfast as Pisa airport had little to offer and at higher cost. Once you have done the Cathedral, Leaning Tower, etc. then a walk on the city walls is highly to be recommended. If you have time walk the full 3km.

I'm not sure why this place has bad reviews. I was hesitant to book because of that, but I'm glad I chose this place. It's literally right next to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and a lot of great restaurants. It's worth a nights stay considering the price is much less than many other places in Pisa and it's hard to beat the location. There is parking relatively near by for a fee. The place may be dated, but it's a bed with nice air condition and you can do all you need just a few steps from the door. I highly recommend it and would return in the future. There's an elevator as well, which in Europe seems to be a luxury.

Fed up with the ever rising prices and declining standards of the NH we decided to give this hotel a go. The street - Christofero Columbo - wasn’t very salubrious but then the area around the station isn’t that great.It was like stepping back into time -back to the hotels we visited in the late 1980s. Old fashioned carpet and big clunky key ring rather than a key card. The room was marvellous- a safe, a modern bathroom with lots of fluffy towels, a tv and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. The manager recommended a trattoria to us and it was marvellous- so unlike the dreadful restaurants we’ve been putting up with in Pisa over the last few years. When we came back after supper we were able to have a nightcap at the bar and this was so welcome compared to the NH where there is a soulless vending machine selling bottles rather than glasses. The manager was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb and the coffee made fresh at the bar (not in a machine) was wonderful. The room we had was quiet and there was no nighttime disturbance despite the proximity of the station. Highly recommend this beautiful hotel, the friendly staff and the superb breakfast.

I was stupid and accidentally booked the room 1 night before my actual stay. I was so frightened when the staff pointed it out. However he was soooo nice and still let me stay. I'm sooo grateful about that. The hotel smells nice and is decorated tastefully with artistic theme - there were paintings all along the corridor. My room is huge, my bed is grand and comfy for a solo traveller like me, everything is extremely clean, facilities are neat and well maintained. The location is perfect, right in the middle of Pisa Centrale and Pisa Leaning Tower. I'm a very happy guest. I'm so glad that I have chosen this hotel to stay for my Pisa trip. I will definitely stay here if I ever come back to explore Pisa again. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to have a comfy stay, a sound sleep at affordable price in Pisa. Un décor qui met dans l’ambiance de l’Italie : hall chambre salle de restaurant … on est dans un autre monde !un esprit vacances super appréciable ! Chambre spacieuse et confortable avec une salle de bain pratique et agréable ! Petit-déjeuner varié avec des produits de qualité (hormis le jus d’orange industriel …) dans une superbe salle ! L’accueil du personnel est top : font l’effort de parler français, donne des conseils et nous ont même servi un café un soir (flemme de ressortir sous la pluie) On recommande et on y retournera !

So surprised by the good reviews, my stay was so bad it's prompted my first ever review after years of travelling. Maybe it's the single rooms that are bad? One of the worst places I've stayed at. Obviously trading off its location close to the Leaning Tower. I wasn't expecting much for just over E100 for a single room for 1 night but as a basic you expect a clean room. Opened the door to the first room they gave me to see a large chunk of plaster (the length of my hand & pretty thick) had fallen from the ceiling onto the pillow along with several smaller chunks. Although they were full they swapped me into another room (& gave that guest the original room after cleaning as I later heard someone check into that room). My room obviously hadn't been cleaned well in ages, the floor was dirty (see the pic showing the state of my socks after walking on the floor for 15 mins), the bathroom door had years of ingrained dirt, there were unfilled holes in the bathroom tiles and a huge mark along the wall where the bed had been pulled out. The rest of the room was bare and felt more like a cell with no decoration and just a couple of old and utilitarian bits of furniture. The middle legs of the bed were broken and at an angle so it didn't feel stable at all. And no noise proofing at all so I was woken by other guests coming back, waking early the next morning, reception staff talking at handover time etc.
