Carisa Maleme

Review based on 4 days stay for a couple in Sept 2023. The hotel is very quiet, with modern furniture, three superb swimming pools, nice pool bar with great cocktails. The most important thing is the staff who are polite, very friendly and helpful.

Wonderful hotel and very friendly and professional staff! Three pools, nice sea view room, comfortable beds. The beach is two minutes from the hotel. The beach has small stones but it's very clean.

I visit Crete every year to spend time with my Grandparents who live there, I have stayed in many places around Chania and would absolutely recommend the area to all. This was our first time staying at the Carisa Maleme as a group of 3 women in our 30s. Firstly, there are a lot of positives about the hotel: - our room was lovely, really good sized and with 2 bathrooms - which made getting ready as 3 women much easier! our room also opened out on to a small, quiet pool which was great - the location is great, it is situated in close proximity to Maleme and Gerani and a couple of minutes walk to a small, shingle beach - there is a local bus which stops directly outside the hotel and takes you into the bigger resorts of Platanias and Chania, the bus runs like clockwork and is easy to use - all of the staff were lovely, they were pleasant and helped where they could - breakfast was good, well stocked, lots of choice and fresh - slightly different options each day too which was nice. We also had snacks on a couple of days when they were available and they were nice, although there is only a very small menu (pizza, couple of sandwiches and a greek salad) However, there were a number of issues we felt let the hotel down, it was really apparent that the hotel was newly opened and it felt that a lot of the practicalities and processes at the hotel had not been fully thought through: - we arrived on a night flight which had also been delayed, when we arrived, check in was quick but we were not offered any refreshments, no water at all and the fridge to buy water was locked for the night. The night porter did unlock everything for us but as the only member of staff working it meant that check in for others was delayed. It is pretty standard to offer guests at least water after a night flight, especially as we did not arrive until 3am. (we booked bed and breakfast so was not all inclusive and I wouldnt have expected anything more than a glass or small bottle of water each) but to have nothing when no other shops are open was really frustrating. - The pool bar has very limited opening hours, the drinks fridge was locked at breakfast time and the opening hours stated snack time 12.30 - 3.30pm and happy hour 4-5pm, after that, the bar closed. We are not ones for staying around the hotel all day and night but it was frustrating that we could not get a drink or snack outside of these hours, we couldnt get a drink before our evening out or when we arrived back. There were numerous times when we were waiting for a bus or taxi for our evening when a nice drink around the pool would have been lovely but it just wasnt possible - aside from anything else, the hotel must be missing out on a lot of money by forcing guests to go elsewhere! - Different staff clearly had very individual roles, if that member of staff was not around, service was very difficult - the lady on reception was great but was not around all the time and if she was out, no one else was able to hel

Our stay here was everything we hoped for most of the week. Hot weather, large 3 bed apartment close to restaurants and a minute walk to the sea front. There are a few little things to mention - we booked as a package via jet2. Unfortunately our check in was late, arriving at 2am. When we arrive a teenager was manning the desk who did not speak good English checking in us and 2 other families. This was delayed by there being no electricity cards for our rooms. Took the lad an hour to find 1, then another hour to find ours. As you can imagen, after our flight and late arrival in extream heat (still 28degrees at 2am) no one was paying attention to much. The teen took us too our room and left, no instructions, hotel advice, package ect. Despite this we had a lovely holiday. However, our last day was not good. Having never seen our Jet2rep, or heard from her, we recieved a text advising our coach transfer to the airport was at 7pm. Ok, no problem. But, on out last day, the hotel manager comes to us at 1pm, while in the pool, to tell us we must pack up and leave the room? Advising we should have checked out at 11am! I advised that no one told us and I was sorry we didn't know, explaining all of the above, only to be told there is a sign in reception, well we had no reason tk go to receptionafter check in! Not even to get to out apartment. No matter, pack now, in a rush, dripping wet. We then had to sit around in 39 degree heat for around 6 hours until our coach arrived. I will reiterate, we arrived at 2am, tired and then had to wait to go to our room for another hour. Not a great end to what was a lovely holiday. The hotel bar is only open till 6pm. Useless if you ask me. However, the barman is wonderful and attentive. Breakfast was OK, nothing fancy.

This was the perfect hotel for us as a family of 4 with grown up children. Very relaxed vibe, quiet hotel, no fighting for sun loungers or loud people. Very friendly staff that can’t do enough to help you. Large accommodation with plenty of space. Lovely pools. Clean. Great location to explore this end of the island.

We hebben een heerlijke week gehad in Carisa Maleme. We verbleven in familieappartement nummer 108. Heel ruim met 3 slaapkamers en 3 badkamers. De airco's op elke kamer waren heel fijn en de bedden waren perfect 👍 De douchecabines zijn wel echt te smal. De schuifdeurtjes zijn gewoon onhandig. Qua inrichting van het appartement zijn er nog wel wat verbeterpunten. We hopen dat de eigenaar waarde hecht aan deze feedback en er iets mee doet. Kleine verbeteringen dragen bij aan een nog prettiger verblijf: 1. In de woonkamer stonden twee boxsprings die dienden als bankstel. Uiteraard kun je daarop niet comfortabel zitten. 2. De eettafel was te klein voor ons (5 personen) en we hadden ook maar 4 stoelen 3. Het keuken inventaris was te karig. Wel pannen, maar geen borden? We hadden ook maar 3 messen en 2 kopjes. We hebben zelf maar een schilmesje gekocht (en achter gelaten). Een schaar, een waterkoker en bijvoorbeeld een broodrooster was ook fijn geweest 4. Een (welkom)setje van schoonmaak artikelen (afwasmiddel, sponsje, keukendoekje, afwasborstel en een doek om te drogen ontbrak). Ook die hebben we gekocht en achter gelaten. 5. Een bezem of stoffer en blik ontbrak. De schoonmaakster kwam wel dagelijks, maar er werd niet grondig schoongemaakt. Vaak lagen de broodkruimels nog onder de eettafel (immers geen borden..) als ze geweest waren. We hadden graag zelf even willen vegen af en toe. De zwembaden waren heerlijk. De douche bij het beneden zwembad heeft alleen wel een nieuwe douchekop nodig denk ik? Ook hadden we het idee dat het water aan verversing toe was? De tegels rondom het zwembad waren soms ook gevaarlijk glad. Dit valt wellicht ook te verbeteren. Tijdens een Happy Hour hebben we genoten van een Mojito. De lekkerste die ik ooit gehad heb, aanrader! Qua eten uit de keuken was het niks speciaals, maar voor een keer was het prima. Het ontbijt viel ons alles mee. De klaargemaakte bordjes (brood, ei, komkommer, tomaat, worst, kaas, boter en jam) werden steeds goed aangevuld. Daarnaast was er kwark, watermeloen, sinaasappel en afgewisseld donuts of verse warme heerlijke cake. Ondanks dat er verder niks mis mee was denk ik dat een buffet beter zou zijn. Niet iedereen wil ei, worst, kaas of jam. Als je nog een boterham extra wilde, moest je weer een heel bordje met alles erop pakken en werd niet alles opgegeten. Zonde, want zo wordt er teveel weggegooid. Een huurauto is echt aan te bevelen! We hebben geen gebruik gemaakt van het openbaar vervoer. Qua supermarkten zijn de Lidl en Synka het beste en met de auto zijn ze goed bereikbaar. Tips voor uitstapjes: - Gorgona Beach in Agia Marina (Je kunt voor een bezoek aan het strand gratis parkeren bij het Gorgona Beach restaurant) - Bezoek Iguana Beach, heerlijke ligplekken onder de bomen - Winkelen in Platanias (vooral souvernirs) - Bezoekje aan een mooi klooster aan zee (Gonia Odigitria Monastery) - Indien goed ter been een bezoek brengen aan de botanische tuin (Botanical Park & Gardens of Crete) - Indien
