Le Jadis is a small good looking place but it does not feel like a 5 star resort. What needs MAJOR improvement: -The room could use more cleaning, but it’s acceptable. -The biggest issue is customer service: staff are impersonal. We were unsure where to go upon arrival, and welcoming drinks were inconsistently offered. We did not get any. There was no proper greeting. -Despite mentioning my birthday on a pre-arrival form, nothing was done to acknowledge it. I brought my own cake, so it wasn’t necessary, but what is the point of asking if there will be nothing complimentary upfront?! -We had to find our own table at the restaurant for dinner the first night. -We asked staff to store our cake, and the restaurant directed us to the reception, where we were told to handle it ourselves due to staff shortages. Eventually it was all sorted out but this is not something you should tell guests. -Upon departure, the reception staff merely handed us our bill with a simple “thank you”, without any personal farewell. In true 5-star resorts, staff typically inquire about our stay and invite us to return. Here, it felt like they didn’t care. What’s good? You can enjoy everything that is included in your package well. No one will bother you. You can have your own private pool. The hydrotherapy is very nice if it’s in your package. Food: Okay. 5 out of 10. Big positive: -We met Ruben. Nice guy. He really cared and was receptive to feedback. We told him that it’s more like a self service resort. Do your thing and leave. He ensured we got a complimentary birthday cake and fruit platter. (That was after we gave him feedback). He told us he will take it on him to convey that training is needed for the staff. We really appreciated him. He knows how to make guests feel valued. -Private pool and hydrotherapy 9/10 ! VERDICT: I’d recommend Le Jadis for a quick stay, family time, or a get-together, and if you are not picky on food. However, don’t expect top-tier guest service or true 5-star treatment unless staff undergo proper training and improvements are made. Disclaimer: We are locals.

Just got home from what has been an unbelievable stay at the Maritim Resort and Spa. What makes this resort so special are the people who work there. Everyone we encountered were so friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable. I have left a separate review for the Maritim Equestrian Centre which are the stables within the resort - I have to mention them again here, because it was Dario (who is the stable manager) and Deepak (who works alongside him) that are the true stars of this resort. They deserve a huge bonus! Their expert advice, amazing equestrian knowledge and experience, plus their obvious love and care for their horses, dogs and other animals made this holiday truly unforgettable. I can’t thank them enough. The other members of staff who deserve a special mention are Sanjeev, Krishna, Dhruv and the lovely Papay by the pool. All went way beyond what is required of them at work and looked after us every day. Everything about this resort is fantastic - but these amazing people are why I have given 5 stars!

We've just returned today from 10 days in Mauritius, and I wanted to post my comments now whilst I'm still basking in the glow of a marvelous holiday. We have had a really special holiday, and it's already made us decide that we'll be coming back in 2025. I'll run through some of the main points that people might find helpful. Weather: We came in Mauritius knowing that it's winter over there, because we didn't want to be sweltering in heat and humidity that would stop us doing things. We expected rain but didn't know how it would impact the holiday. In general things fell into a standard pattern. Between 8-12 there might be one or two light showers, lasting usually for a minute or less. This was just as a heavier cloud might pass over the resort, and the sun would be out immediately afterwards, meaning you basically don't have to worry about getting wet. Once or twice there would be slightly heavier showers lasting for 3-4 minutes, so we'd shelter under the umbrellas until the cloud passed. At no point did rain negatively impact the holiday. Temperatures were in the low to mid 20's with humidity at about 70-80%. The sun is quite strong, so it's very easy to tan and you need decent sunscreen. The sun would rise between 7 and 8am, and set about 6-6:30pm. This combined to allow us to spend some time sitting by the pool, but also to go for runs, play tennis, go kayaking, and never end up a sweaty mess! Location: Balaclava (the area the hotel is in) is remote from anything resembling a large town. The two places to visit locally are Grand Baie and Port Louis (the Capital), both need a taxi and take about 30-40 minutes. The hotels are run by the hotel so are very reliable, and the drivers will agree a return time with you which can be varied. You pay on the return, and I thought the rates pretty reasonable (e.g. Grand Baie cost 2,300 MUR, or about £37). Don't expect lots of shopping - Grand Baie has a large supermarket in the centre with some associated shops, some local shops a short walk away, and one shopping mall a 5 minute drive away. There are some nice bits and pieces to pick up, but it's more about the experience of seeing the real Mauritius. I think this island is an ideal location for a relaxing holiday rather than a 'shop til you drop' location. Next time we will probably hire a car for a view days so we can go visit some of the further parts of the island, particularly the more mountainous areas. The resort: The Ravenala Attitude is lovely. The staff (the 'family') all clearly love working there and are bought into the eco-friendly approach the hotel takes. There's a 'store' where you can get refresh water, soft drinks, beer, teas and coffees, for your room during the day. They have a minimal plastic approach, so there are a lot of water fountains where you can refill your water bottle, and you can get a refillable bottle from the store for a small deposit if you don't bring your own. We had a relaxing and revigorating massage at I-Spa. The place was clean and welcoming. The masseurs were very kind, polite and understood what we wanted. The massage was so relaxing that I even slept halfway through my session. We were also counselled on further treatments required as per our body needs. Would recommend to a friend.

We spent eight nights at the Coral Azur. I highly recommend the hotel. Below are the specifics. We arranged transportation to/from the airport with the hotel. We had five adults. The total round-trip cost per person was ~$40 USD. It was efficient and easy. The rides to/from the hotel took just under an hour. All communication with the hotel was efficient. We arrived at the hotel around 9:30 PM. The check-in staff allowed us to eat off the buffet (closed at 10 PM) for no charge. We did not ask to eat or say we were hungry. They just said, “Help yourself.” In all of our travels, this was a first! Check-in was relatively easy. Rooms are standard size with a balcony. I think all rooms have an ocean view, which is a nice perk. Also, one can view the excellent sunsets from the balcony. Our room had a fridge, safe, good shower pressure with hot water, and toilets that flushed without problem. The pool area was nice, with plenty of chairs. The hotel has nightly entertainment. The breakfast buffet was good, with a large selection and everything one would want for breakfast, including mimosas! Breakfast and dinner, if one chooses to eat at the hotel, are in an open-air restaurant. To minimize the impact of birds, the staff provides bread outside of the restaurant. It works reasonably well but not 100%. Be prepared for birds flying around during meals. There are plenty of taxis available outside the hotel. We negotiated service with one taxi driver for the week. They took our family to town for shopping, etc. We also used them for a ride to dinner every evening. The area has several nice restaurants, but very few are within walking distance. It was more cost-effective to eat out than at the hotel. She goes over the top to make everyone feel welcome. In the morning, during breakfast, she visits every table and tries to learn about all the guests. She and I had lunch together. A new and modern beautiful hotel. Lots to do and some great food to eat. Service needs to improve for a 5 star hotel but the management are very accommodating/addressing any issues raised. The Bissou bar is a standout for me and my wife with unbelievable service by Olivier.
