I travel an average amount and my accommodation is usually somewhere between above a hostel but below 4-stars. Think a Hampton by Hilton type of place. Chasing stars has never been in my budget, nor do I usually really care for extras - I just want the place to be clean, safe, quiet, conveniently located and if possible, maybe have a little personality. However, this is the first time I felt like my choice of accommodation truly elevated my entire holiday experience, even if we didn't spend that much time there. If I'm ever in Porto again, I will undoubtedly stay here again. LOCATION Objectively, looking at the map, it is a little on the further end of central, but most everything was within a 20 minute walk and Porto is definitely a city best explored on foot, so this was not an issue for us. The nearest touristy/foody area is the Bolhao market and Rua Santa Catarina shopping street (and centre) and church, which is probably under 10 minutes downhill. The hotel is between two metro stations, both about 10 minute walk, however taxi to the airport was around 10€. The street itself is nice enough - quiet and not a ton on it, but also not looking abandoned or unsafe like some areas in Porto can. A few local cafes on it + a small grocery store and a bigger one not too far away as well. HOTEL The hotel was clean and modern and felt welcoming from the moment we walked in. Apparently, there are three buildings (spring, summer and autumn) and a garden area in the middle, but we only stayed in the one (autumn) and didn’t use the outdoor space due to the time of the year. There’s also a restaurant (and breakfast) which we didn’t use. I cannot compliment the staff enough. Firstly, they were just always lovely and polite (they even stand up every time a customer walks past, which is totally unnecessary as far as I’m concerned), but we had also travelled for a birthday, and the room was filled with a cake and balloons and we also got an upgrade to a higher floor. They wished me happy birthday upon arrival, and then the next day, which was the actual day, when I just walked past. Check in was swiftt and easy & they also offer you your first nata of the trip. I truly don’t think I’ve ever felt as welcome in a hotel in my life. There was an entire menu of things they provide or help to provide on the TV and I don’t even remember all of it, but it was literally everything from umbrellas and dry-cleaning to help with medication and childcare. I think they even provide boardgames?! I didn’t even think I really cared for the little things like this, but this hotel proved me wrong. ROOM The room was clean and modern and we were very happy with it. It came with a bottler of water, kettle, tea and mugs, a safe, a fridge, large TV as well as USB sockets next to the bed. Room was cleaned every day, no sign to opt out, but I’m sure that can be arranged at reception. We were out by about 10am most days, and didn’t hear any cleaners on 3rd floor until then. Chec
