Easy walk to bars at night.. We had a sea view room which I would recommend Lovely seafront private area just over the road. Quality. .Have to pay for loungers however Piran is a must see, just a short bus ride away and we also managed a day trip to Lake Bled and a nice day out to Trieste In Italy

This was our first sea side vacation in Slovenia. The hotel is part of Life Class Hotels network which includes several more expensive and several less expensive hotels. Guests of all of them share the SPA facilities. I rated this hotel stay as “Very Good” mainly for its value for money. Otherwise, it is average. Hotel: this is a 4 star hotel and, apart from the food, old towels and having to pay for old bath robes, it is probably the 4 star hotel. The room is spacious and comfortable, very clean, large balcony with a table and chairs. The hotel and surroundings are quiet, even though it is kind of in the middle of a resort town. Mattresses are on a softer side and pillows are not that comfortable but all in all ok. TV has several programs in English including CNN, BBC, National Geographic, cartoons etc. Towels and bath robes are very old and really need to be replaced at this stage. Plus you have to pay for bath robes (!) euro 6 per one bath robe. It’s handy to have one because you can go to the SPA dressed in it. SPA: is very good. There are several swimming pools, one of them is with thermal mineral water which we liked. Another one is with sea water and has one part outside. The pools are clean and pleasant. Can get very busy when the weather is not great but it was manageable. There are plenty of massage and other SPA options. I didn’t use any but they looked very nice and not too expensive. Kids club: there is one on the prémisses. It is run on the Medusa beach in good weather or inside of the Apollo hotel in not so good weather. Animators seemed nice but not too engaged. Also, they never asked for my room number or my phone number so I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the kids there without me being nearby for longer than 10 min. When the kids club is run on the beach, the beach is right next to the road. So it really is not an option to be used for child care and going off to the SPA. Kids enjoyed playing there though so I do recommend it. Beach: the hotel guests can use Medusa beach which is opposite the hotel (you need to cross the road to get there). Hotel guests pay Euro 18 for two loungers and one umbrella. It is expensive if you do this every day. The beach is nice and clean but it is rather busy and not that big. Sun loungers are on the grass, there is no sand there. You need to use the metal step ladder to get into water. There are small stones on the bottom in the water so worth getting beach / water shoes (Euro 15 in shops nearby). Otherwise, can be unpleasant, especially for kids. The water is probably around 1 meter deep when you get in so young kids won’t be able yo puddle in. Water seems clean but there are lots of boats nearby so you can see a bit of diesel in the water. There are showers on the beach and a nice cafe for lunch and drinks. Food: breakfast is limited but ok. The young lady Sara who is making omelettes is very nice and welcoming. Scrambled eggs however are really bad as if they were made

The whole hotel is reminiscent of the trade union resorts of the socialist era. On arrival, there is no access to the entrance, and luggage has to be carried about 50 metres to the reception, come rain or shine. Parking is free, provided you can find a parking space somewhere, and there's no help in finding one, park where you can, in my case it was about 500 metres from the hotel, on the hill next to the buses. The groups arrive in huge buses - like in socialism for the tour - so as a private guest you have to wait until the groups' business is sorted out, then it's your turn. The guest area has been renovated, but the service roads are in a state of terminal disrepair. The air-conditioning units have probably not been cleaned for years, smiling merrily with mould... Meals are served in rotation, and you can pick up your prepaid breakfast and dinner on a self-service basis. The noise is horrendous, over 100 people trying to eat at once, children screaming and shouting is the normal noise level. At dinner, the few staff who call themselves waiters - the rest are just clearing the dishes - immediately find you to bring you a drink at a gold price, which they don't pour and, for example, you have to drink beer from a wine glass, as it's on the table, they don't bring you another. The crowds can make you wait half an hour to pay for your drink, but if you don't tip enough they will make a point of it, making faces. They heat without any need for heating, but you can't adjust the temperature on the panel in the room, it's disabled, and if you open the balcony door, the rain pours into the room. Do not go during school holidays, because the swimming pool area is full of parents with small children and the pool is not big enough for such a crowd, because other paying guests can come in from the outside. Kids running around screaming in the hallways, nothing like a four star hotel. The swimming pool water is dirty, smelly, after a swim the bathing suits smelled so bad you couldn't wash them. We threw them out. The staff are not helpful, they don't even want you to have a good time and come back because of the mass tourism. I will not.

Check-in is in the neghbouring Apollo and was, shall we say, unenthusiastic. Was told no parking space available, the ”bell hop” would guide me to the parking 2km away for free. I assume driving while using your phone is legal in Slovenia? No? In retrospect, it was the transfer that was free not parking. Using the hotel as a base to explore the region, I wasn't going to go through the inconvenience of this every time so I found a place behind the hotel (Parkirišče Vila Marija at €18/day - cash only, takes up to €50 notes, change in coins). Then we were directed to our rooms - up the steps, behind the bar, past the play area, through the doors and down the corridor. Who cares if we had 3 heavy suitcases? Where was the ”bell hop” now? The lift serving 5 floors is miniscule and we frequently slogged up the stairs in the heat rather than wait or share with malodoured fellow guests. Reviews describe rooms as tired or dated - the decor was a bit mediocre and dated but overall were very clean and bright and beds comfortable and the shower very good, if dimly lit. Aircon struggled with 30 degree heat. Breakfast (avoiding the lift down to -1) wasn't great for a vegetarian. Cereals with chocolate, croisants and pastries that never felt 100% fresh, coffee from a machine that was certainly instant. OK juice. Eggs looked unapealling. Definitely not 4*. And the vultures (staff) zooming around grabbing any plates, cups and utensils from tables, often before they were truly finished with! Reaching over your shoulder and, in once instance, standing on my foot. The whole fitness/wellbeing/spa/health thing is cosmetic. The website could be a load of AI generated mumbo jumbo for all its worth. Very few facts, such as the parking situation. Following the signs for the swimming pool took me all the way to Apollo reception where I was told, no, other way. I tried to explain I had followed the signs but she was adamant I was wrong, it was the other way. (I later realised there is a cordoned off pool entrance - that is what I had been following signs for) So I followed signs the other way down endless corridors, doors etc. Yes, the sea water pool was OK but nothing to write home about. If you want to take a robe to the pool it is €6. If you want to use the minibar fridge for yourself it can be ”rented”! On checkout I was charged parking at €12/day before realising When I said we didn't park other than the first day she was adamant it was my fault for not telling them. Why would I when I hadn't been told the cost? Anyway, they refunded me in € cash - on my last day when I didn't need any more euros. Finally, wi-fi was poor. Definitley not a 4* experience and staff were unenthusiastic about everything. Except the cleaners who were friendly, even if they did knock the door to see if we really meant to not be disturbed, as per our door hanger!
