The setting is in a pretty Spa village. The hotel is quite a big hotel and modern with lots of marble flooring. The Reception staff spoke some English and were friendly and helpful. Our room was a Junior Suite on the third floor. It was spacious with a large bed which was a relief after the cramped uncomfortable cabin we had on our trip over on Brittany Ferries. The decor is on the bland side but the view from the windows more than made up for this. We were the only English staying in the hotel but this was fine as we managed with a very helpful Restaurant Manager to work our way through the menu in Spanish. He also advised us to go in the Restaurant as the buffet room was going to be very busy. The food was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was good too and had a plentiful selection. On our second night we ate across the road at their large cafe which has a nice outdoor terrace. The attraction for us was that we were able to eat earlier than the 8.30pm dinner service time that operates throughout Northern Spain. No English was spoken but we managed with helpful waiters and Google translate! The hotel is well known for its Thermal Spa Complex. We decided to try it despite no English spoken but again we managed with helpful staff and Google translate and managed to understand what we were supposed to do. This included wearing a swim cap provided by the hotel! It was a great experience and thoroughly therapeutic and relaxing. We had a good overall experience at the hotel and slept well. We would definitely stay here again even if it was only for a night passing through on our way south.

PPengguna TetamuWe stayed at this warm and quaint posada for one night during our Camino del Norte hike on June 2, 2020. The host was attentive, very accommodating and was incredibly generous with his time in helping us navigate the Spanish dinner menu. The location was perfect however keep in mind there isn't a supermarket or bar close by so ensure you bring whatever food or drinks you might need if not arriving by car. Fortunately we had some snacks with us and enjoyed a picnic on the grounds of the property. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast was generous and delicious. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Thank you for taking such great care of us! Cynthia Wozniak

Somos una pareja de Valencia, nos alojamos en la Pensión Castio tres noches, en principio iban a ser dos, pero decidimos quedarnos una noche más, se encuentra a 7 u 8 minutos andando hasta el centro, en coche a un minuto, la ubicación era perfecta para ir al centro dando un paseo y lo bastante alejada para poder disfrutar de la tranquilidad y la paz de un sitio tan bonito como ese. La dueña, Martina si no me equivoco, muy atenta y encantadora, y TODO impoluto, las habitaciones muy bonitas, y sobretodo muy limpias, el viaje era de 12 días y los días siguientes fuimos a hoteles con más estrellas que han dejado mucho que desear. Ojalá pudiésemos volver en un futuro, porque sin duda volveríamos a alojarnos en el mismo sitio. Las vistas increíbles. y todo muy bien cuidado. Muchas gracias por hacer nuestra estancia tan agradable.

PPengguna TetamuFrom the outside the hotel doesn’t look like much but the interior more than makes up for it. Welcomed very nicely by staff and was easy to find our room. Room was a great size and lay out and the bed was incredibly comfy. There were always staff available if needed but we didn’t have any problems. The hotel was in a great location and the beaches and restaurant were lovely.

LLaurie DaviesGreat experience at this centrally located hostel. The staff were very friendly and helpful during the checkin process. The hostel is centrally located in Santander, and has a nice atmosphere inside. There is plentiful space to hang out and work, with great kitchen facilities and also a vending machine and coffee machine for guest use. The hostel was very clean, and the bunks had privacy dividers which I personally find very valuable for a good nights sleep. Overall I would definitely recommend this location to family and friends!!

MMaybs247We really enjoyed our stay at the San Mar. We wanted a Cantabrian hotel that was right on the beach so we could lie in bed and listen to the sea, so this hotel was perfect. The playa de Luaña is a lovely beach with a small surf school and lifeguards/ first aid. Walk down the steps of the hotel and the beach is at the bottom- perfect! Our double room had a terrace which was nice although mainly on the shade from the afternoon on. The bed was actually two singles, and the mattresses seemed to be memory foam which were very warm at night. There was no air conditioning but we were anxious about mosquitoes. The hotel supplied a plug in bug zapper for the room. Rooms were made up every day, which was lovely. Fresh towels also every day. Breakfast was self service in the basement and was ok- a choice of fruit, yogurt and lots of bread, jamón and queso, with some croissants, jams etc. We had a drink in the bar every night and often played cards on the terrace. Service could be a bit slow. We had dinner in the restaurant twice (much preferred it to the one opposite) and food was good value. Overall a lovely place. Was quite expensive (€120/night) and often we were waiting to get the attention of the staff- both check in and out we were waiting for at least 10 minutes for people to come. Service could also be a little gruff at times. We would recommend a stay here- the location is also great with Comillas and Santillana within easy drives, plus the amazing Restaurant El Remedio.

PPengguna TetamuStruttura nuovissima (aperta a fine luglio 2022) in zona periferica in prossimità delle trafficate tangenziali di Santander. Spazi comuni ampi, colorati e molto gradevoli, staff gentile ed accogliente anche se la giovanissima età tradisce in qualche occasione la poca esperienza. Stanza non molto spaziosa e piuttosto essenziale con la trovata, tanto scenografica quanto scomoda, della doccia a centro stanza e solo il wc in uno spazio piccolissimo separato. Andando in bagno potrete provare la stessa esperienza degli astronauti in una Soyuz. Buona l'insonorizzazione ma ogni tanto qualche sirena si sente. Il riposo comunque è stato perfetto ed anche i letti sono stati comodi. E' stato difficoltoso trovarlo nonostante google: l'ingresso è in una via secondaria dove però non c'è un cartello; basterebbe aggiungere un'indicazione per segnalare l'ingresso. Noi abbiamo fatto tre giri (delle tangenziali e santo navigatore!) prima di capire dove fosse l'ingresso. A due passi c'è anche una fermata bus. Parcheggio privato gratuito attorno e sotto la struttura ma non saprei se ci siano spazi sufficienti per tutti gli ospiti. Aria condizionata molto problematica: ci sono i termostati in camera ma non funzionano o non sono abilitati, quindi l'aria è gestita camera x camera da un pannello alla reception a cui abbiamo dovuto chiedere tre volte di accenderla, poi abbassarla e infine spegnerla x la notte perché rumorosa e fastidiosa date le dimensioni ristrette della stanza. Molto negativo Non abbiamo provato la colazione ma tutto sommato ci è sembrato un buon punto di riferimento per uno stop&go in prossimità dell'aeroporto dove effettivamente non ci sono molte alternative a Santander mentre non lo consiglierei a chi visita la città. Sicuramente la gestione giovane ha dei punti di miglioramento ma la struttura è di buon livello

This hotel has so much potential. Great location. Nice ocean views from one side of the hotel- Mountain View’s from the other. It lacks a little love and attention. First off, if you are a spa person this is not the typical spa you might be expecting. The “spa” is basically a glassed off area on the other side of the indoor pool with mediocre sauna, steam and jacuzzi. Oh and you have to pay to use it. Kinda strange. You also need a swim cap. Fitness room, again, lots of potential! Huge room and plenty of equipment. Very dated though. I tried the rowing machine and the straps were broken and the machine was old, hard to use. They also have a sign that says to wipe down equipment. I found 2 spray bottles of something in the corner of the room with a used rag. Not exactly the ideal if they are worried about hygiene. The breakfast- lots of potential but lacking quality. The fruit table is wonderful and so is the coffee! However, there are no nice jams or homemade anything. There were scrambled eggs one morning and sunny side up eggs another but they were doused in oil. Plenty of cold cut meats and sliced cheese. The room- basic. Bed was comfortable. They don’t really use the outside terrace that has a lovely view. They could have breakfast tables set up out there with umbrellas and nice outdoor furniture to sit in and have a cocktail but it’s just empty space with some light square tables and chairs. (Missed opportunity). Could be fabulous if they had a great breakfast, made use of the terrace, updated the gym and did something with the “spa”, or simply don’t call it a spa. Decent 3 star hotel.

PPengguna TetamuA Santander abbiamo scelto più che altro per la posizione, che qui è stata veramente molto felice. Poi avevo chiesto il posto auto, con possibilità della ricarica elettrica, ed ho avuto anche questo. La camera era bella ampia e comoda, con un bel letto ampio e bagno persino dotato di Jacuzzi, che non abbiamo però usato perchè ci sembrava piuttosto vetusta. Il realtà tutto l'edificio pare aver avuto tempi splendenti, magari 40-50 anni prima, perchè l’arredo è di quell’epoca anche se tenuto benissimo. Anche gli ospiti del Hotel ci sono sembrati degli habitué, piuttosto attempati. Avrebbe benissimo potuto essere un Hotel per un film da Woody Allen. Unica nota stonata è il Ristorante. Eravamo stanchi e non volevamo sbattacchiarci nel cercare un ristorante (che abbiamo trovato la sera seguente e non lontano). Cena rigorosamente NON PRIMA delle 20.30, salone vuoto fino alle 21, tranne noi, con un silenzio surreale. Pietanze da menù molto poco accattivante, diciamo che per essere in Spagna avrebbe potuto essere meno turistico. Pazienza. Hotel consigliabile per la posizione, non rientrerà tra i nostri desideri per tornarci ma gradevole per stare un paio di giorni a Santander, città molto bella e meritevole essere visitata.

PPengguna TetamuBooked last minute online driving up Spain this was a golden find. Slightly difficult for the Sat Nav to find on a dark wet night. Parking is limited but adequate unless the hotel is packed. The staff were welcoming with an adequate grasp of English/French. The hotel is spotless and has a very charming character with asymmetric rustic furniture/decor throughout that unbelievably blends so well together.Bedrooms/bathrooms are comfortably adequate but definitely not high-tech. WiFi is free and a good speed.
The restaurant offers a limited selection of superb meals in the evenings (you would not want to eat elsewhere after sampling it), and breakfast has a fine and unlimited cold food selection, and a great help yourself coffee/late machine. You can buy great value wines with your meals but beer/lager was not available.
The hotel is in a quiet location and is dog friendly for small breeds. Well situated if waiting for ferry crossings (25 min drive)
I would 100% recommend the hotel as good value for money, extremely charming with food to die for, and would definitely book again if the need arises.
