Hostal Tongo Reef

We stayed here three nights while exploring the island. The hotel is in a quiet area of the small town. It's easy walking distance to numerous restaurants and to the port where the boats leave for the tours. The rooms are all different from each other so study the photos and choose wisely. It is worth to pay extra for a bigger room (meaning there is a real difference). Some rooms have microwave and glasses. No kettles or safe though. The WiFi worked very well. Pokemon players can visit PokeStops and Gyms from the room. Everything was clean. The staff was very friendly, even spoke some English and also helping us with the tours or booking taxis. The breakfast was served downstairs, all freshly made. We very much enjoyed our stay and can recommend it.

From the moment we arrived at the Tongo Reef Hostel, I knew our stay in San Cristóbal would be exceptional. I traveled with my sister and niece, and we all instantly felt welcomed by the warmth of the owners, who treated us more like members of their own family than just guests. The hostel is located in a privileged position, just steps away from a charming beach inhabited by sea lions and their adorable pups. The proximity to this natural wonder added a magical touch to our stay. The rooms at Tongo Reef are a true haven of tranquility and cleanliness. Every corner of the place reflects the care and dedication of its owners in maintaining a neat and cozy environment. Additionally, the wifi worked perfectly throughout our visit, which was essential for sharing our experiences with friends and family. But what really distinguishes this hostel are its spectacular breakfasts. Each morning, we delighted in exquisitely prepared local dishes, full of flavor and love. It was a true immersion in the gastronomic culture of the Galápagos. Furthermore, the owners were incredibly helpful in offering us recommendations for exploring San Cristóbal and even other islands in the Galápagos. Their advice greatly enriched our adventure in the islands. In summary, Tongo Reef Hostel is not just a place to stay; it's a home away from home. If you're looking for an authentic, comfortable, and memorable experience in the Galápagos, this is undoubtedly the place to be. Property has some loud construction going on during the day, and it is a very noisy at all hours, motorcycles, dogs, cats. Breakfast was nice and it is close to Playa Mann.

Breakfast is included (eggs, toast, fruit, juice, coffee)- great to start the day on a full stomach. The area is a little noisy at night (there’s a club on the corner) and the neighborhood cats and dogs make a ruckus. But that seems to be an issue most places in town. Friendly staff, clean rooms, good food, good price… basics are covered!

Hostel is a bit off the main area and the streets surrounding

Avoid at all costs if you can. They are disrespectful frauds. Booked a sea view room with breakfast, which the check-in lady confirmed. At breakfast, they refused saying our booking didn’t include it. Even after showing the email confirmation they still refused, saying we had booked a balcony room no breakfast, then proceeded to refuse us a room with a balcony. Worst of all they were incredibly patronizing, belligerent and disrespectful, calling us names like “clowns” on the ********** messaging service. There were many other issues including no hot water, noise all night (they live downstairs and were very loud with music and talking), neon lights outside our window, no ventilation, windows did not open, and filthy streets outside.

Very close to the main street. Taxi station at 1 block. Friendly service, and very safe.

Very nice hostal, modern, very clean, very confortable room with all you need. 5 minutes walking from the center. Let's go to the negative point. The director Philip, was not really a nice person, not at all available for the needs of the guests. The first night I realized that the light of my room was not warking. I text Philip to repair it. He came 1h after and told me it was late, that he will have done it the day after. The day after nothing was done, I text him again and he proposed me to change the room. I told him that, as it was evening, I could keep the same room, but I asked him to repare it the day after. The day after again nothing was made......3 days to repare it, nothing was done. Finally I asked to leave the room just 1h later, a courtesy in exchange of the technical problem.....and the answer was NO. But I have to say that his mom was very nice with me (but not with the very kind housekeeping), the let me use the kitchen to cut some fruits and she offered me some delicious fruits of its Finca.

Esperaba mucho más por el precio que he pagado. El precio es de un 4 estrellas y en España no tendría ni 3. No es una estancia acogedora, ni en la decoración ni en el trato, y tampoco está bien ubicada. Casi todos los servicios en esta isla son claramente abusivos, y los lugareños no tienen la menor piedad con los turistas. Este es un hotel regentado por personas locales, que ya tienen estigmatizado ese proceder en todo lo que ofrecen (comidas, tours, ...). Les queda mucho que aprender, pero sin conciencia, lo tienen difícil.
