Scenic Hotel Punakaiki

A pleasant few days in calm surroundings. Great ocean and sunset views. Staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival and eager to satisfy any requests throughout our stay. Accommodation was immaculately clean and well presented.

Great getaway, relaxing, right by the sea, very happy with our last minute choice

We had a seaside room at $245 per night rate. The room was very musty & smelly. I wanted to complain but partner does not like to. Attached is a pic of the damp rid container nearly hidden under the baggage shelf. I certainly would not recommend this room. Not what is expected at $245 per night.

An absolutely gorgeous place to stay on a South Island roadie!! The rooms are a generous size and have all the amenities including a mini bar, kitchenette and lovely plunger coffee. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony and looking out at the glorious views. We had drinks and bar snacks at the restaurant. We had a smashed minted pea bruschetta with roasted red capsicum and microgreens- on thin and crispy sourdough. Delicious. The handcut chips with truffle oil aioli were next level. Not greasy, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I’m a real chip connoisseur and these were the best I’ve had in years- definitely the best in the South Island! Overall, a very relaxing place to stay and well worth the stop!

This hotel would have to be a hidden gem. The welcome is warm. The rooms are clean and comfortable with sea views. It has a very good restaurant with quality food. We had lamb shanks where the meat just fell off the bone. Full buffet breakfast and a short walk to pancake rocks. Honestly highly recommend. This is a great get away or stop over.

Two years ago my wife and i went to what once called Ocean View Hotel . I say now early in this review it was the worst experience we have had going to an hotel. Details aside. The now re owned as Scenic Hotel offered us the opportunity to make things right. They didn't have to do this . We decided to take up the offer for our 4 th wedding anniversary . Greeted at the front desk by Paul , checked in, room designated, meal time sorted and canapes and cocktails arranged we settled in. The room was fantastic, laid out in a fashion that actually felt homely ( decent size TV) and a great view of the ocean. Canapes and Cocktails served by Wendy whom I add did front desk, bar, served, restaurant manager and waitress all on her own (champion). The meal was simply something that will stick in our minds for a very long time. Entrée of Prawns for the lady , Salmon for me. Main consisted of Porterhouse steak , both cooked to perfection. Absolutely could not fault the service and the meal. Full cooked breakfast and coffee. I will admit that the coffee wasn't the best but having trained baristas and roasted coffee for thirty four years im a picky bugger. Bonn took my productive comments on board and went away and made another. Well done the coffee was great. She also asked if I could improve her coffee skills so I took that opportunity to do so. Bonn is now very much the wiser in the art of a great coffee. Summing up . Paul, Wendy, Bonn, chef and the rest of the staff you have done Scenic Hotel proud . I would never hesitate to stay again

Very disappointed. Booked the deluxe room and it is definitely not deluxe. Old, tired, sad. Now I am sad too. Expensive and not value for money. Dinner is also very expensive and while fine, not $50 worth per plate. This room needs a new carpet and an upgrade. Even bedsheet has marks on it which no one expects at this price.
