My husband and I had an amazing stay at Tower Suites, Reykjavik for our 5th-year anniversary! We were blown away by the fantastic views of the city and the ocean. The room had glass windows from floor to ceiling and was spacious, well-designed, modern, and with ample storage. We spent a lot of time just taking in the views, especially one very dramatic sunset at 9:30 PM, and a snowstorm the next. All the amenities were well-thought out and of great quality, and we appreciated the use of organic products in the hotel. Breakfast each morning was a real treat! It is part of the booking and you simply need to tell them which time it gets delivered to your room. The selection was very good, healthy, and yummy and was more than substantial. Before booking, note that the hotel occupies only 1 floor (20th) of a mixed-use building. There are separate restaurants downstairs but don’t expect room service delivery (except breakfast), or gym, or pool to be part of the hotel. They do have a concierge service. There is also a lounge that operates on an honesty system, where you can get snacks, alcohol and other drinks. Even though we booked the invisible service option, we felt the personal touch, especially from Aga, who made us feel so welcome and made our stay extra special! I am attaching photos as I don’t think I am able to do Tower Suites justice by simply describing it.

Non sono molto convinta del soggiorno in questa struttura. La camera era discreta: carino il bagno, molto più anonima la zona notte. Il centro non è vicinissimo: a piedi ci si mette circa mezz’ora. Vero punto debole, per noi, è stata la colazione: un po’ misera e cibi caldi assenti. Non so se fosse dovuto al fatto che ci siamo presentati alle 9.00 nella sala colazione, quindi un’ora prima della chiusura del buffet, ma onestamente questa è la prima volta che mi capita di imbattermi in un’offerta così poco ricca. Erano rimaste solo un paio di torte e alcuni affettati (dall’aspetto non dei migliori) e formaggi, e un po’ di melone tagliato male in un piatto. Lo yogurt, così come il latte, erano contenuti in appositi cartoni semi vuoti abbandonati a loro stessi. Da un hotel ci aspettavamo di più, soprattutto per il prezzo pagato (180 euro in due per una notte). Il personale con cui ci siamo interfacciati per caso (il check-in si fa autonomamente) è sempre stato cordiale, ma quando tornerò a Reykjavik penso sceglierò un’altra sistemazione.

Low price room are two small for two persons. The twin beds too are closed together. There is no space to turn around for packing stuff. No windows, no shampoo or shower gel, only soap provided. Overall impression is not good.

Check-in was pretty smooth. I was allocated the room just above the main entrance as such, it can be quite noisy whenever people get in or out of the hostel with the door slamming and some vibration felt! The bathroom and wc are fairly clean and tidy. Very cosy common area to mingle and make new friends. Kitchen has all the basic necessity. I especially like the small area right outside my room where i can have a light meal and nice view of the surroundings. Bought the unlimited bus rides ticket via the Klappid app for travel within the Reykjavik capital city and bus svc 12 is just few steps away. If time permits, you can even walk to the coastal area for sight-seeing. Overall, i am very satisfied with my 8 nights stay at Laekur hostel!

Pros: The apartment is in a great location and plenty of room and a full kitchen. Cons: we had an issue with both of our bathrooms that caused loud and extremely smelly air to be vented up from the shower drains and took continuous emails and 4 days to fix. The fix was very simple and did not require an outside service or plumber to fix it (image shows missing piece in shower drain). The staff kept referring to the sulfur smell of their water which tourists are not used to but did not come out to fully investigate the issue until I sent them a video showing a wet towel physically bubbling off the ground by the vented air. They then came out, but only fixed one of the showers, which required multiple emails again and multiple days to have fixed. The smell was strong enough that it caused us to eat out for every meal instead of using the apartment kitchen as intended. We also needed to keep wet towels over the shower drains and towels at the bottom of the bathroom door and all windows open to sleep comfortably at night due to how overpowering the smell was. The apartment is considered self-service, but the supply room was continuously empty which meant that you were unable to grab supplies when needed. The state of the apartment was also concerning as the number 9 in the front of the building was missing from the wall, which made finding the apartment take a little longer when we arrived. There was also a light fixture hanging by wires that had fallen from the ceiling that prevented the use of the dining room table (this issue was fixed the first day, see image) I have given Sif Apartments (Hemaleiga) more than a month to work with me on a fair discount for the days affected, but they are slow to respond to emails, if responding at all, and only offered a discounted rate on the first night, which comes out to around 3% off the total stay. I have counter-offered that It would be fair to at least be discounted on the 4 nights it took them to fix the drain issue as we were unable to make full use of the apartment or cook in the kitchen during this time. Not to mention the countless emails and wasted time trying to fix the issue which should have been spent enjoying the beautiful city and vacation. The fix for the drain issue was simple, fast and easy and should have been done the first day they were made aware. While Sif Apartments (Hemaleiga) has the potential to be a great choice of housing while staying in Reykjavik, I would not recommend them until they can figure out a better system for supplies, urgent maintenance requests, and more training for their customer service team as this issue could have been easily resolved the first day and a fair compromise should have been an immediate offering. If we had not been traveling during the busy tourist season (June), I would have switched rooms on the first night as the smell was overwhelming, but no rooms were available in our area for a family of 4.
