We felt very well rested while staying here and exploring the area around Roturua. They have very comfy beds and our room on the upper floor stayed very quiet throughout the night. The room was well equipped with thoughtful touches like an information board about the hotel and area, extension cords for power outlets, activity recommendations, map of the property (including hours for amenities), good coffee/tea/hot chocolate and some nice shower toiletries. The kitchenette is good to cook a small meal in and we used it a few times during our stay to make breakfast and dinner and felt we had all the dishes and cookware we needed. We appreciated that they included salt, pepper and milk. The amenities are pretty good at this hotel. They have tapped in to a geothermal well and that provides heat for the rooms, hot water on the property, a heated outdoor pool, mineral baths and a steam box. We tried everything to check it out and felt it was all well done. The steam box was a highlight for us as it was very clean, had detailed instructions for its use and works very well. We picked up some stuff at the grocery store and enjoyed a delicious dinner of steamed New Zealand mussels and some prawn dumplings. The steam box worked fast and I was able to lift up the steam baskets with my bare hands after the items were fully cooked. We made a sauce using a herbed garlic butter, shallots and some white wine and felt it paired well with the mussels. They have a board with recommendations of what to cook in the steam basket and with the instructions we found it easy to do. Check in/out was easy at this hotel and we did both after hours because we came in late and left early. They emailed us instructions before we arrived and included a little welcome bag with instructions for the property. They also included a personalized letter for us. Before we arrived they sent us a list of recommendations for the Roturua area and they have some recommendations near the front office for what to do nearby, on a rainy day or on a sunny day. Again, we appreciated the friendly and thoughtful touches. The parking area was plentiful and included, but your car windows may get fogged up if you're parking close to the pool area. All that being said we felt the room we stayed in was a little dated and could use a deep clean. The shower caddy and the bathroom fixtures were a little grimy. The bathroom had a broken hook on the back of the door and we felt we could use something to hang out wet swimsuits/towels on. The room did provide a third bath towel but during our first night they nearly ran out of towels by the pool and had a note saying they had a shortage of pool towels. The property does smell like hot springs but then again the whole town does. We would recommend keeping the curtains closed if you are away for the day to help manage the temperature of the room - there is an AC unit but it can get quite hot in there with the curtains open on a sunny afternoon.
