My now husband and I chose to stay here for our wedding weekend, and we couldn't have chosen a more romantic and charming place. The hotel was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. We arrived (without warning) with several crates worth of wedding-related supplies, and their staff helped us bring it all up to our room. The rooms themselves are gorgeous and unique. Our room came with an amazing soaking tub that we enjoyed the morning of our wedding and best smelling toiletries we've ever found at a hotel. Despite the level of excitement we felt for our wedding we slept beautifully. The handsome writing desk was the perfect spot for us to write our thank you notes to our wedding vendors. Not sure why some reviews claim there isn't a breakfast? While the breakfast doesn't include hot items, the selection was great and of very high quality - fresh fruit, sandwiches, coffee, pastries, and we left happy and full. We look forward to returning for our anniversary someday!

It is a clear and tidy hotel with no doubt. However, some of its staff were extremely rude. I went down to ask them if the hotel offered turndown services. The man starred at me then asked, in a highly disrespectful tone, “what do you mean by a turndown service?” Completely shocked that I would encounter such a question at a Nikko hotel, I could not say a word for like ten seconds while that man continued starring at me. How can I reason his behavior if not an intentional embarrassment?

When I entered my room I felt I stepped back in time to the 1800's. Decor is very Victorian cozy. Bathroom has modern plumbing but it did have a clawfoot bathtub which kept the feel of time. The hotel I believe was one family's home in the early 1900's which turned into a hotel. I chose this hotel because it was couple blocks away from a class I took at the Japanese Cultural Center of Northern California. After class I explored Japantown which was a treat. Hotel Majestic is centrally located in heart of Japantown which is easy to travel by using public transportation. I didn't want to rent a car since I only went for 1 day and I knew parking would be hard in the city. I was pleasantly surprised they offer complimentary full breakfast which I was unaware. If my travels take me to San Francisco again I would stay at Hotel Majestic for its location, amenities, friendly personnel service and reasonable rates.

I really wasn't sure how much I'd like my stay at this place, but overall it was a great experience. For reference, I stayed in the Janice Joplin room (Private bedroom with Private bathroom) The Good - Convenient - Within a 5 min walk to bus lines to get you to BART station. - Clean - No bugs, no bad smells, no mold. - Affordable - You really can't beat the price when most hotels are going for 200 a night that are a 5 minute walk away. - Neighborhood - Keep in mind this is San Fran, so while not ”clean” I never felt threatened or in danger nor was I ever bothered by the homeless folks around the area. Lots of food options, even late at night. - The Building - Really cool set up, you can literally spend an hour or two in the halls learning about the music history there. Really nice to have when the cleaning team is still in your room. There is a live rehearsal studio in the building so you can sometimes hear them playing. Very colorful and chill. - The Staff - Everyone that I interacted with was friendly. The cleaning crew was friendly and flexible to my needs and came back later when I asked. I did not have any issues with items or money I left out disappearing. Check In and Out - You can do it online to expedite the process! Makes it really smooth going in and out. The bad - The Shower - In my room, the shower was very small. Elbows out and I was hitting a wall in any direction. Not a huge deal, but it just means you aren't in it for long. - No Fan - I knew going into the stay that A/C isn't really used and is building controlled, but it would've been nice if there was a ceiling fan or some other option. Windows were able to be left open which was nice! - Noise - The ONLY complaint I have about noise is the shared bathroom that was next to mine. I could hear EVERYTHING happening in that bathroom, at the beginning I thought they were actually in my bathroom. There was some music during the day (you're in a music themed hotel so expect it), but everything was super quiet in the halls at night. No elevator - At least I didn't find one. And it's a looong ways up to the 200 level. The gentlemen at the front desk did help me take my bag up the second flight of stairs, but it's a haul with your stuff. Overall - I would definitely recommend a stay here in a Private Room. I can't attest to the shared space rooms, but it was quiet, affordable, and clean during my stay. If I come back to San Fran I would gladly stay here again.

Not Kimpton Level Quality. This is a nice Holiday Inn, but not worth the Kimpton price. Stayed for 5 nights. CONS: Homeless guy sitting in the corner sleeping at the long table in the nook of the lobby! Flies swarming outside front doors day and night; and flies in the lobby when they prop open the front door! Stairs going down to enter hotel; very inconvenient with luggage; Everyone pays for parking in price of room, even if you don't have a car; No coffee nor microwave in room; Coffee only in lobby only from 6-10am and it was already COLD at 6:45am; False Advertising: I measured the ”Queen bed”. It's NOT a Queen, it's a FULL sized mattress (smaller) bed! Why did the guy checking in the 4 of us ask if I wanted a free upgrade from 2 Queens to ONE King?!?! I assumed he said 2 Kings, but nope, he checked the 4 of us into a room with only 1 KING bed and explained their rooms are not big enough for 2 Kings. Wow! LOUD ANNOYING keyboard player/singer in small lobby Saturday night; guy checking us in had to shout over the ”music”; No dresser; Dirty, dusty carpet along the walls; Ice only on 3rd & 7th floors; Fitness Center is useless for weight lifting: hand weights up to only 25lbs and no Universal weights machine. 4 cardio machines not necessary because you automatically get your cardio walking anywhere in the city; No breakfast & their on-site restaurant went out of business; They ignored the loud car alarm in their garage for at least 10 minutes. Listen to audio file from lobby attached. PROS: Excellent Customer Service

I totally enjoyed my stay during a 4-days at this place. The location is super convenient, take 101/130/150 to go to Union square, walk a little bit and take 19 to go to Beach Road. If you are adventurous, you can actually walk to the Downtown. I had to check in early as my flight landed a bit advance. They allowed me to early check in at a nominal fee which is totally acceptable. Also the cityscape view from hotel is amazing! I felt the place is safer, all amenities provided (ironing bed, hangers, refrigerator, iron box, coffee and tea bags… so on). I would certainly stay here again and highly recommend checking this out. I've stayed in different hotels through out the city from the Ritz, Marriott, and other BWs. All good hotels at different price ranges. This hotel is priced right for the amenities and area. This hotel is perfect if you are just looking for somewhere clean to stay and don't mind the bad neighborhood. The rooms seem recently renovated and are very large compared to other hotel rooms in SF. You will not have any issues accommodating a family of 4 in their 2queen rooms. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. I tested the internet speed and got around 45MBS down and like 26MBS upload so streaming anything or even playing online with your gaming console is no problem. Staff seemed like they are being trained but they were all very nice. Unfortunately I didn't try the breakfast but was given two coupons per night. The entrances to the rooms are secured with a locked door that needs a key to open and access the rooms. The only downside to the hotel is that is located in a bad neighborhood with a lot of homeless but if you know SF then you know that's expected almost everywhere in the city. None of them bothered us though, they mind their own business. It was conveniently located to the city hall where the pride festival was held but not to anything else. Also if you get a balcony room, lock the doors, the balconies are pretty much connected to each other and someone can easily walk to your side.
