La Valise San Miguel de Allende

One of the most beautiful and interesting spaces you could hope to experience. It’s a stunning space, designed by the artist Pedro Friedeberg. In a city that is revered for its beauty-La Valaise is a stand out. Everything about it will wow you. It’s a great location- one street off the main square on a street that has no traffic. Staff was incredibly lovely.

WOW. What an absolutely incredible experience staying at this beautiful luxury hotel. I’d never consider staying anywhere else while visiting SMA and all weekend we just kept saying how thankful we were to have found such a special spot. I hope to visit all of their properties around Mexico in the future. Everything felt 5 star

See another review from February, 2024 which expressed "disappointment." We experienced a similar disappointment on our 2nd morning. The chef didn't show up on 2nd day and food items on 1st day were unavailable on the 2nd day. Arrange your own transportation or risk à bad start to your vacation and if you have a special Birthday request, make it perfectly clear to preclude any misunderstanding. Our room met expectations and housekeeping was superb. Agree, it is a Wes Anderson'ish experience for which we pay a pretty penny err peso. It if for the young at heart traveler.

A gem of a place within the pedestrian section of SMA. Apart from the superb location, it’s a beautifully restored boutique hotel with excellent little touches such as custom mezcal in the room! It was a birthday getaway & the host team looked after me so generously ! Breakfast is well made & you can choose to have it in the room or outdoors (which was my preference with the sound of running water). Views from the terrace were lovely (though we got hit by some bad weather). Above all, the host team of Nicholas, Louis and their colleagues are just fantastic with their care, recommendations, and their attitude — thank you so much guys!!

This place blew my mind! The exterior is non-descript, but as soon as the door opens, you’ll find yourself in an oasis within the city. We stayed in the Genesis suite, and it was incredible. Easily the best hotel room we’ve ever had. It was an experience for all of the senses; as soon as we walked in, the lighting was very romantic, the air was fragrant, there was the sound of birds chirping from the speakers, the architecture of the room was gorgeous. It felt as if we were staying in a private museum. The hallway leading to the bathroom was mirrored and beautifully illuminated. The bath house/room was unlike anything else we’d ever seen in a hotel room! The spacious, soaking walk-in tub was set in such a way that it was like having your own luxury spa experience. Just stunning. I also opted to have an in-room massage, and I highly recommend it. Don’t be like us and forget your swimsuits, because the pool and upper terrace jacuzzi looked amazing. On top of everything, the staff (Nicolas y Oscar) were genuinely kind, sweet and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was better than most hotel paid breakfasts. Book it, you won’t regret it - just make sure you do it early because they book up fast.

We recently celebrated a special occasion at La Valise and it was perfect. From the warm welcome to the last goodbye it simply could not have been a better experience. Our spacious room, Genesis, was lovely, offering gorgeous design a comfy bed and spectacular bath area. I would be remiss in not mentioning the amazing Consierge Team, Nicolas and Oscar, who were attentive, available and knowledgeable.The courtyard breakfast included a wide variety of dishes (including yummy local foods) great coffee and hot chocolate. Can't wait to return to this very special place.

The hotel is located in the heart of San Miguel, however in a relatively quiet side street. The hotel is very pretty, beautifully decorated. There is a small pool in the patio and a whirlpool on the rooftop terrace, where you have a nice view. The rooms are large and also very beautifully decorated. There is good lighting and they offer you some free drinks 8n the fridge as well as coffee. One thing that is missing in the room are slippers. Breakfast choice is limited but ok. Unfortunately the service is not good. The hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotels, so guests might have some expectations on the service and might be disappointed. Already at the reservation I had some issues. I needed a transfer to be organized and the manager did not reply so I had to remind him several times until I got the answer. When I asked for a reconfirmation as the initial reservation was done months ago, I also did not get an answer and had to remind several times to get a feedback. At arrival I asked for an additional rack for my suitcase, he never came back to me. He offered to heat the pool, but unfortunately he forgot so I could not use the pool as it was freezing. I used a Glas in the room but it was not cleaned. There were no small towels and I had to ask for them. All these are minor issues but it shows that the service is really not good. I recommend them to market the place as B&B or AirBnB and not as SLH, then the expectations are easier to meet. I still had a good time as the city is beautiful, but I would chose another hotel if I came back, there are so many excellent options with better service.

We stayed at three different hotels over the week we were in SMA. La Valise was by far the best. From a comfort, location, and especially service perspective. Nicolas and Oscar were fantastic. We will be back and will book our entire stay at La Valise.

Beautiful boutique hotel only a block and a hall off the main square. Strikingly appointed, including the central stairs leading up from the courtyeard with reliefs designed by a well know Mexican artist. We stayed in the top floor room which was very spacious and artfully decorated. The staff was superb, friendly, available, accomodating and professional. And the breakfast was surprisingly good, given the small kitchen and it being a small place. We stayed for five days.
