"These apartments are more like 2 star accommodation, don’t be fooled be their pics. The rooms are dirty, dated, damp and damaged. The kitchenette is ancient and the bathroom was dirty and had seen better days. The pillows were rancid and the rooms door looked like it had been broken into at some point. To top this off there was drilling in the room above."

"The location is excellent, but the hotel is definitely overpriced. The service was terrible, and the rooms weren't cleaned thoroughly. Furthermore, the hotel has many hidden charges that are revealed at the end of the stay. On-site parking is an additional fee, and spaces are very limited, making it difficult to exit."

"Minutes away from the airport, but a world away. Quiet is the key word, you could easily imagine that you were waaaay out in the country. I stayed 2 days in the "chalet" a nicely updated 2 story stone cottage. It was tastefully and eclectically appointed with a mix of antiques and modern fixtures. A small kitchen with a cooking surface, microwave, cookware, utensils and glassware! Cozy does not do it justice. My only regret is that I did not book my entire Madeiran stay here."

"We booked a cottage in this park estate on the mountain slope just above Funchal. The estate used to be for agricultural purposes, but is repurposed for tourism. Our cottage, Pinhas, was perfect. Not luxurious, nor modern, but as romantic as the cottage from Kate Winslet in the Holiday, when she swapped with Cameron Diaz. When we arrived the fridge was stocked for a week of breakfast (optional). Every morning fresh bread hanging on the door knob (optional). These were the best breakfasts ever. Complete privacy thanks to the magnificent trees. The sun coming around the mountain in the morning. And maybe some peacocks passing by. This is luxury. Not the luxury of hotels in Dubai and Las Vegas. A 10k luxurious penthouse suite is still a prison. This is the opposite. There are some good restaurants and a good supermarket at walking distance. But the roads do not always have pavewalks, and are steep and sunny. So, use the Levadas instead."
