Hotel Matina

Myself and my wife visited the Pension Matina for our honeymoon in September 1981 and loved the area of Kamari as it is relatively quiet. The family were so kind and the place has happy memories so we decided revisit the now Hotel Matina on the same site as the original Pension. We were not disappointed. The hotel was wonderful with lovely rooms and a great bar area and pool. The family again were so kind and looked after us well. I would highly recommend this hotel and it is excellent value for money. The town may have grown but still feels friendly with a great swimming beach and an excellent choice of restaurants. I can recommend the family owned Motor Inn car hire company near the beach if you need a vehicle. We also enjoyed the cycle tour with Santorini tour visiting Castelli and Megalochori. I showed the family pictures of the place from our honeymoon in 1981 and an article I had written about the place which was featured in the Saturday Telegraph in 2023 which they copied and kept. Hopefully one day we can return again to visit this beautiful island.

Me and my wife recently stayed at the Hotel Matina in Kamari Beach Santorini. It really does deserve all the excellent ratings it gets. It is is a small, family run hotel in a great location just a five minute walk from Kamari Beach. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, Our room was very comfortable and clean. It has a lovely pool area with very comfortable sunbeds and a small bar serving drinks and food.I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and I would like to thank all of the staff, in particular, Elias, for making our stay so memorable, I can recommend Hotel Matina without reservation and am already looking forward to returning next year.

Very nice hotel with a pool, pool bar. We booked a triple but they gave us 2 attached rooms which was great. Came with balconies. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Walking distance to the black beach and multiple restaurants. Also walking distance to the bus stop if needed. We just took cabs to go to Fira and Oia. Highly recommended.

A lovely little hotel with courteous and friendly staff who were extra helpful giving advice and making an enjoyable stay. The pool was very pleasant and a tranquil setting without too many people. All in all it was a reasonably priced stay in a quieter setting still easy reach of Kamara restaurants etc that suited me perfectly. Look forward to returning again

The Hotel Matina is clean, friendly and comfortable. Staff a welcoming from beginning and throughout providing you with good information for your stay in Santorini. With someone at the hotel 24 hours a day there is always someone on hand for guests. The hotel is immaculately clean with rooms cleaned daily. Cleaners are so friendly and polite. The pool area is beautiful and well set out with sun beds, tables and chairs. There is a pool bar for guests use. Alcohol across Santorni is expensive averaging €6 - €9 euro for a beer and €10 - €15 euro a cocktail. Breakfast served daily has a good choice available both hot and cold. Sometimes breakfast could be very busy and there was a little wait for items to be topped up. But if you ask staff for something they are very willing to help . The room (no 37) was bright and had everything you need including fridge and safe. Key sage was included and available from reception. Bathroom was compact and shower quite small but there was everything you need. Balcony was overlooking a pretty garden and had a lovely traditional feel. The hotel cats are often around and about and are very sweet but do not hassle you. They are more than happy to have a friendly fuss and are well cared for. The hotel location is set back from the road which is excellent as the road can be busy. Bring set back makes the location more peaceful and relaxing. Ancient Thera is located close by. You can take the minibus opposite the hotel for €15 euro per person and takes only 10 minutes to arrive. Beware, you will need to pay again to enter ancient Thera which is €6. To visit you need to be fully able and comfortable with heights. You will need good stable footwear as the walk is over rocks and gravel and a steep climb in parts. There are no toilets there and one expensive kiosk so take water with you. Kamari is a tourist village so be prepared for restaurants trying to coax you in and to pay tourist prices. Dana’s is the closest restaurant with good quality food at reasonable prices. The local bakery on the same street is excellent for cakes, sandwiches and pastries. The hotel also arranged airport transfers for us at €25 euro each way for 2 people. I would recommend this as good value and hassle free. Overall this is a lovely hotel to stay at, well maintained, pretty and very clean with fabulous staff. You won’t be disappointed with this hotel.

I can't say enough about how wonderful this hotel is. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, it is immaculately clean, the rooms are big and comfortable and the breakfast is sublime. It is a great value.
