Hotel Mar de Plata

The hotel & restaurant were great. The food was good and there were restaurants, convenience stores and grocery stores that were walking distance. The rooms were spartan but comfortable. The highlight, was the kindness of the staff. They were helpful and understanding, called taxis and spoke Spanish to others for us. They were tremendously helpful and we really appreciated it.

Excellent hotel catering for Pilgrims. Staff obliging and dining room catered for my gluten free diet without any problem. Room was extremely clean comfortable beds and sufficient room for our two suitcases. The receptionist went out of her way for us as did the dining staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We stayed two nights prior to our walk. Reasonably located, good for walk commencement and 2 minutes walk to a laundromat, with several cafes around the corner. A little further away is the shopping area, restaurants and older features of town. Staff were great assurance, rooms were spacious, clean and quiet. Buffet breakfast and basic evening dining in a canteen type environment and the bar has a limited offering.

We had two nights in this wonderful hotel before starting our walk. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We speak no Spanish so the were able to converse in English, which was so appreciated. Breakfast was continental and just what we needed. The rooms are clean and comfy. Highly recommended.

Lovely hotel, attentive staff, clean rooms with free WiFi and a wonderful restaurant at a very reasonable price. I stayed2 nights before starting my “Camino De Santiago “ Great location near the train station and it is a walking distance from lots of shops.

Good hotel modern and v clean - food average and restaurant manager rude - he lets the place down. Breakfast good and convenient for town not that there is much there! Good stop over for the start of the Camino

We stayed here for two nights before our Camino start. The hotel is a short walk from the train station and easy to find. The room was clean and spacious. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. I was very pleased with the included breakfast to start our day.

I stayed here while in the midst of walking the Camino with my sister. The rooms were quite good, but the breakfast was embarrassing because we were “told off” for attempting to take an apple, banana and pre-wrapped muffins with us for our walk. I should have taken a bite of the apple and left it on the table to see what they would they have done with that!! I had paid for breakfast so had the right to eat and take what I wanted. Would definitely NOT stay here again!!

My sister and I stayed here for one night while walking the full Camino Frances. It’s quite a distance off the path and in a not so very nice area. The room was a bit “blah” but okay. We were surprised when we went down to dinner to find the restaurant closed. It was a Sunday, but still you’d think they’d cater for their guests. But worse was to come. We went down to breakfast next morning to find quite a nice buffet (no hot options, but still quite good). We had cereal, cake and coffee, so quite a modest breakfast. I was aware that the two wait staff were being very watchful, I mistakenly imagined because they were being attentive. I grabbed a banana for later and my sister a couple of pretty ordinary apples (she has developed a habit of feeding the horses, goats and donkeys we come upon on the Way) and we each took one cellophane-wrapped mini-muffin (they’re everywhere and cost about €1 for a pack of 12). Well, when we got up to leave, the male waiter pounced, confiscating our paltry “stash” and embarrassing us in front of the other diners. We’ve eaten at some establishments that have a sign declaring that no food should be removed from the premises. We saw no such sign. If the staff had quietly pulled us aside and explained that they preferred that we not take anything, we would have offered to pay for what we took (about €1 worth at the supermarket). I would NEVER stay here again nor recommend it to anyone else. Appalling!
