"My recent stay at The Puxuan Hotel Beijing immediately enveloped me in a palpable artistic atmosphere. To me, The Puxuan is far more than just a luxury hotel; it's a veritable contemporary museum of Beijing's culture and art.
The moment I stepped into the lobby to check in, I was immediately captivated by Mr. Cai Guo-Qiang's 'On the Road' (Fig. 1). This museum-quality contemporary art masterpiece, prominently displayed in the public area, truly sets the tone for the hotel's artistic ambiance. It's genuinely rare to find such a significant, high-value art installation in hotels of this caliber worldwide, ensuring guests are immersed in a profound artistic atmosphere from their very first steps inside.
The hotel's exterior facade is equally stunning: it features a pixelated reinterpretation of 'Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains' (Fig. 10). When illuminated at dusk, it truly comes alive, resembling a mesmerizing, flowing landscape painting.
The guest room interiors maintain The Puxuan's signature understated luxury. The liberal use of wood and stone creates a sense of profound texture, with French design sensibilities harmoniously blending with Eastern elements, resulting in an aesthetic that is both contemporary and subtly refined. Glimpsing out the guest room window offers some of Beijing's most iconic vistas: on one side, the layered rooftops of traditional *siheyuan* courtyards, bustling with authentic local life (Fig. 13); on the other, the majestic and solemn Forbidden City (Fig. 14, 15). Staying in such a room truly feels like engaging in an intimate, direct dialogue with Beijing's rich historical tapestry.
During my stay, I also had the pleasure of dining at the hotel's Chinese restaurant, Fuchunju. The cold appetizer, aptly named 'Fuchun Blue-and-White Porcelain' (Fig. 2), was a work of art in itself. Cucumber, radish, wood ear mushrooms, and shiitake mushrooms were meticulously arranged to evoke the aesthetic of a classical Chinese painting, beautifully embodying the elegance of ancient Chinese art while perfectly preserving the fresh textures and flavors of the ingredients.
Coinciding with my visit, the hotel was hosting an exhibition titled 'Elegance Across Time', centered around Qing Dynasty court design trends. Regrettably, due to time constraints, I didn't have the opportunity to visit it personally. However, the hotel's overall decor and ambiance alone offered a clear glimpse into its profound cultural depth. The true allure of The Puxuan lies precisely here: it transcends mere luxury accommodation, allowing guests to truly embrace the philosophy of 'life as aesthetics' through its art, curated exhibitions, and masterful spatial design during every single stay.
With its unique and impressive art collection, distinctly Chinese culinary presentations, and a spatial design that seamlessly blends modern sophistication with classical charm, The Puxuan Hotel masterfully curates an exquisite tapestry of 'life as aesthetics' for its guests. Highly, highly recommend!
