"Let's talk about the service first. It's not my first time in Guangzhou. I've stayed at Ascott IFC before. Although that location is quite far from Canton Tower, the front desk staff warmly provided a high-floor room with a pretty good view. This time, I wanted to try a different Ascott, so I chose the one in Pazhou. The experience was poor from the start. First, I requested a higher floor, and the front desk told me only the 9th or 12th floor was available. I chose the 12th. Later, I asked the hotel to provide disposable bowls and chopsticks, and the front desk said they would check with the restaurant but never called back after hanging up. Next, my ticket package included a Canton Tower ticket. Trip.com stated it was for the 450-meter observation deck, but the front desk gave me a ticket for the 433-meter one. When I went to book, I realized it was the 433-meter ticket. I called the front desk, and they took a long time to verify it. Their solution was to upgrade me to a suite, specifically a family room. I agreed, thinking everyone has tough days, so I didn't dwell on it. Later, when we returned to the hotel around 10:30 PM, the previous front desk shift hadn't properly handed over the work, causing me to wait over half an hour for new key cards. There was also a small hiccup during that time. Although the upgraded room was larger and cozy, the service really needs improvement. Checking out the next day was also frustrating. I paid a 500 cash deposit during check-in. At check-out, the front desk manager said they were worried I'd wait too long and had a colleague pay me back with their own cash. A few hours later, they called again, claiming they had given me 1000 cash back. I told them to check their surveillance, as I had counted the cash in front of their colleague. This whole series of events makes me question if I can trust this brand."
