Ulasan Hi Inn (Shanghai Chenghuang Temple)

A REAL review of this hotel by a solo traveller who was there for 6 nights, as you can notice - a lot of 5/5 are MOST LIKELY FAKE REVIEWS!! Because - they are left from guest or anonymous accounts with the review here often being the only one, if you read them they don't look real, more like advertisements, nothing about downsides + they add non-related photos or really clean wide-angle photos of the room. All real reviews are not like that. Putting a 5/5 to this place is just wild, can't imagine someone really thinking that this place is "perfect" lol. Good sides because it has them - the price is not very bad, location is... okay, subway station is in 10-15 min walking distance, there are grocery shops not far away. Beds are clean and there is a table to work and eat even. BAD THINGS: 1. Corridors and common areas are EXTREMELY DIRTY and smells bad, really, I attached photos, maybe it's hard to see but floors do honestly look like they were not cleaned for a year+, not kidding. Also smells of cat piss a lot. I'm just baffled on how they even run a hotel and not even clean common corridors? 2. Internet is just BAD. Extremely slow, around 300 KB/s max. What was funny is that guy at reception didn't even know how to set it up on my phone (doesn't speak English, of course). Said I need a Chinese number, which wasn't true after all. 3. Rooms themselves are really run-down, take a look at the ceiling and window photo I've sent. 4. This place probably holds an achievement of the poorest sound insulation I've ever saw in hotels. It's just awful, next door to me had a pair of old Chinese guys and I really could hear every word they say, one of them was really loud - which also gave an interesting vibe for me. 5. Reception workers are really non-helpful, usually they try to solve your problem, but when I asked them to switch rooms to another because of loud neighbours but which will still have windows - they literally said sorry, can't help, no free rooms. Which is weird because they have, I don't know, tens and tens of rooms there on this huge hotel floor, and didn't see to many people there, so that was non cool. OVERALL - not a complete trash, still you can pretty much live there and there are no cockroaches or something like that, but definitely quite bad and I'd put a 1.5-2 stars to it. LIKE THIS REVIEW if you think it can be valuable to others.

Decent price and location. Enjoyed my stay overall. Would recommend during your trip to Shanghai.

Great value for money! The room was decent, but don't expect a perfect room for this price. The room was cleaned daily. The staff was really friendly and the location was close to the city centre.

Convenient location near public transit, quiet, room without cigarette smell available upon request, recommended! :)

nice! good stay for a few nights

It was by far the worst stay in China. The room was tiny, and for 3 nights sheets were not changed, you could see some insects on it … terrible experience. I don’t recommend it to anyone.

Pretty small and quite old hotel but affordable price Near by 2 metro station but highly recommend take a bicycle. Staff do not speak English, so be prepared translatation tool if you need any assistance.

Location: Pretty good, about 700 meters from Laoximen station on line 10. You can also bike (helo ride) to line 8. Staff can not speak English, so translate app is necessary. Equipment: The hotel is located on the 4th floor of an old building so the facilities are quite poor. The shower in my room was broken, water flow was very weak making take a long time to wash my hair.

Great location, we could walk to Yu garden from the hotel easily. Very helpful staff at the front desk. Slight smell of smoking in the room.

This is the worst hotel I stayed in China. I have rated many other China hotels with 4 to 5 ratings. This one I cancelled my last 2 days of paid reservation. Thankfully, Trip.com has been very good with refund. We booked 4 days of a non smoking room. Asked about it during checking. Girl at reception told me yes, they have non smoking room. Asked to see it first and sure enough it, someone smoked in it. Girl said it is the disinfectant spray but I know the difference asked to see another room. Same. Girl said inn has no other room thought they have many rooms with windows. Told girl I cannot sleep in room with smoke smell and may consider other hotel. Girl quickly replied OK without even trying to find another room to retain me. My booking cannot be cancelled after 12 noon unlike other China hotel which allow free cancellation before 6 pm the day of. Since we arrived at hotel past 3pm, free cancellation is no longer valid. Luckily as we were walking out, a room just vacated has its door open for cleaning and I went in and checked it out. No smoke smell. So I asked for that. Room was really small and walls are old. But better than smell if smoke. The receptionist girl should be more helpful and guests friendly. Even the cleaning lady was rude when asked if they have new batteries for the TV remote control. Only one cleaning lady was nice and guest friendly, her name I believe is Chew, she described it as big field character. She is the only good worker. Room TV doesn't work even when they give me a new remote. Water pressure is weak. No tissues were given, only toilet paper. Price is not cheap. Location is 3kn walk to the bund. Took an hour to walk there. Might be better to stay 20km away and travel by metro in less than hr. I cannot stand this inn and decided to cancel my last 2 days.

The A/C in our room was broken but they moved us to a room with a working one. Then the TV wasn't working in that room, but whatever. Overall a good budget place but nothing particularly special.

Great option in the city center, close to several metro stations. Despite what may appear from the building's entrance, the room was really clean and comfy. We had a great view from the contrasting tall buildings to the shikumen in the area. The reception staff was really kind and helpful, and we managed to understand each other despite the language barrier.

Floor was dirty. Room is too small for two people. Everything else is OK.
