Hotel Shimoda dengan Spa

The property has amazing ocean views high on an outcropping, but none of the rooms with an ocean view have a balcony, except the very edge of the east wing. Wonderful gardens with a path lading down to a small beach that isn't too noteworthy. The rooms have been updated since the construction and are pretty good overall. The pool was closed in June, which was pretty disappointing, especially as the beach is below par. The onsen facilities met expectation. The beds are firm, which I loved, but not everyone likes a firm mattress. The hotel operates a bus service to pick up guests from the train station twice an hour from 9-5pm. If you are doing dinner out in the town or drinks in the evening, you have to grab a taxi back as the walk is a bit of a hike. The hotel staff are very friendly and kind, the concierge knows the area and has great recommendation for activities...wonderful and friendly people. The hotel restaurant serves a nice mostly Japanese breakfast (as expected) with local delicacies, wide range of teas, coffee and juice as well as a great selection of breads and fresh fruit. The hotel restaurant for dinner is average. Our group ordered a range of items off the menu and no one was terribly impressed. The lone stand out was the French Onion soup, packed with flavor, though a bit light on the cheese. Would stay here again if the price was right, was able to get rooms at a discount on this stay as it was rainy season.

昔よく通っていた南伊豆に久しぶりにドライブ行こうとなって、景色のよさそうなこのホテルに泊まることにいたしました。確かに建物はそれなりに経年変化を感じますが、適宜修繕等されているようで、また清掃も綺麗にされているので特に違和感はなかったです。部屋からの眺めは名前の通り外浦海岸を眼下に見下ろせる素晴らしいものでした。夕食は大広間で和食コースをいただきましたが、地元の素材が使われていて美味しかったです。食事時間に関しては一気に混まないように時間分けされているようでしたが、料理を丁寧に1品1品出されていることもあって、2時間程度かかったのかな？早い時間に入った宿泊客の食事後半と遅い時間に入った宿泊客の食事前半とが重なる時間帯の料理出しがゆっくりになるような印象でした。仲居さんが毎回料理を持ってこられる際「遅くなって申し訳ありません」って謝っていらっしゃいましたが、個人的にはお酒を飲みながらでしたし、家内が写真に収めたり、あれやこれや話していたということもあり、丁度良いペースで楽しめました。コロナ明けで土曜日や繁忙期でなければそんなこともないのかなと思います。食後にバーに行きましたが、なんか懐かしいレトロな雰囲気で席もゆったりしていてお勧めです。外浦海岸には、専用通路のようなところを通って10分位で着きますが、帰りは登りになるので若干疲れます。1点気になったのが、部屋に固定で備え付けてあるドライヤーの風量が弱く、長い髪の女性だと乾かすのにかなり時間を要しますので、一考いただけるとありがたいです。長いコロナ禍で本当に大変かと思いますが、この素晴らしい環境、いつまでも残していっていただきたいです。また伺います。
