Hotel Villa Esperia

Professes to be a 4 star but absolutely not the case. First and foremost we arrived on 30th August for a 5 day trip, to find the pool was murky brown and closed for use. We were informed that there had been a storm the previous day and that they were hoping to have the pool sorted by the following day. Having picked the hotel specifically because it had a pool, and paying a premium accordingly, this was a real disappoin**ent. We are now on the last day of our holiday and the pool is still out of use. On day 3 after paying €100 for four sun loungers on the beach we had to complain about the situation and were offered for the following day use of a pool and beach 2 miles down the road with a transfer. This was a very poor standard and it was not possible to lay by the pool, we tried to leave and couldn’t get a transfer so were stuck. Back to the Esperia, the staff have been friendly and it’s generally clean and tidy, the rooms are cleaned daily. There is no kettle in the room. Beds and pillows are hard. Bar is not managed, and reception have to track someone down to serve drinks. One evening we were offered beer, or nothing. Breakfast is pretty standard for this type of hotel. Overall had the pool been operational we would have been satisfied with our stay. Basic, and 2-3 stars max.

Absolutely loved our stay, my husband and I spent four nights in his beautiful hotel.The staff are so accommodating and kind. Our room was the perfect size, clean and comfortable. Located in a fabulous part of town Thank you for an amazing stay !

Friendly and helpful staff made our stay very pleasant. Great pool with views and bar service. Rooms were very clean and a good size with a balcony and sea views. The bed was comfy and a range of pillows. Can highly recommend staying here as very close to beaches and cable car to the top of Taormina. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so special!

The hotel was very welcoming. Rooms clean and all room facilities worked well. The staff were exceptional, the ladies on reception, the bar and restaurant staff, all were friendly and helpful and accepted my poor Italian! The pool was always clean and well maintained. Some shade around the pool with 40c would have been appreciated. Breakfast was good, some bacon (crispy) with the excellent scrambled egg would be perfect. A special mention to Alessandro who was always ready to assist. Grazie Mille.

We stayed at Villa Esperia for 1 Week in June and were happy with our stay. We paid a lot extra to upgrade to an Executive room, we were quite disappointed on arrival as the room was not exactly what we were expecting but that was no fault of the hotel, it was probably down to Jet 2's advertising. That being said, there was nothing wrong with the room, it was clean and had a lovely pool and sea view. It was smaller than we had imagined but was fine for the 2 of us. Air con worked well and rooms were cleaned every day. Staff were really helpful and friendly. This hotel was in a perfect location if you want the nightlife up in Taormina you can catch the cable car up to the town which is a short walk from the hotel. You are also extremely close to Isola Bella and other beaches. Plenty of space around the pool and sunbeds available, it did not once get overcrowded during our stay. The bar in reception/near the pool was quite limited and overpriced but it was OK for a few drinks, much cheaper to go down to the local supermarket down the road. Would say the only thing we found quite disappointing was the breakfast, it was just OK. There is not much hot food to choose from, just boiled and scrambled eggs and little sausages. We expected a bit of a change up through the week but it was the same every day. Overall probably would stay here again thank you !

Friendly and helpful staff. Our room wasn't huge, but adequate. Air conditioning, Wardrobe space, safe & mini fridge, and a balcony with table and chairs, overlooking inner garden area. Cleaned every day, towels changed if you left them on the floor. Bathroom clean and functional. Would have benefited from having some shelf space and hooks in the bathroom. Shower over the bath and fine. We both slept well during our stay. Toiletries supplied were the small bottles, we didn't use them so don't know if they get replenished - so make sure you take your own. No bottled water provided, there is a small supermarket down the street that sells all essentials - excellent staff ! We stayed bed & breakfast - breakfast was fine, not extensive choice but enough for us. Bread, jams & spreads etc, ham, cheese, tomatoes, cucumber. Choice of cereal, Yoghurts, Pastries, Cakes, Small selection of fruit. Usual coffee machine and variety of tea's available. 3 types of fruit juice. Bottled water available in dining room. Hot food was limited - Scrambled eggs & small sausages. Occasionally some potatoes or veg as well. Hard boiled eggs. Friendly and helpful reception, bar and dining room staff. Nice pool area overlooking the sea. This is not a big hotel, feels like a family run hotel. They seemed to get a lot of groups of people (on arranged tours) staying for a few days at a time. Which was not a problem for us, the staff seemed to cope well when they had large groups in. A few restaurants and bars nearby - on way to cable car which is only a 5 min walk away. Vast choice of restaurants and bars, up in main town, all the ones we tried were excellent. I checked on trip advisor prior to going and all the ones I picked out were excellent. Lovely town and area. We went with Jet 2 - Rep was excellent. Got local train to Catania one day, bought ticket for hop on/off bus, went on boat trip from the beach. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I am sure we will visit Sicily again.

Have just stayed for 7 nights in this hotel, bed and breakfast. We had a basic room which was adequate and the breakfast was good with alot of choice. The pool area is nice and was never overcrowded during our stay The location is great, with lots of restaurants within walking distance the cable car to Taormina town is a few minutes walk as is the beach. Would be happy to stay again although would probably get a bigger room. The only criticism is the lack of a**osphere I think some light background music around the hotel lobby and breakfast room would really make a difference. The service was great and the hotel staff are friendly and helpfu.

When booking this hotel I opted to pay extra and upgrade to a superior room which Jet 2 advertise as being with a view of the sea or garden, on arrival we were shown to a room at the very back of the hotel. Although the room had a terrace it had absolutely no view unless you consider a rusty gate and an overgrown bush a view! The terrace was dirty and not somewhere you would want to sit! I spoke to the staff on reception and they weren’t one bit interested also saying only suites had sea views. However this was clearly untrue as we walked past several rooms over the week that were being cleaned by housekeeping with the doors open that were not suites but clearly had sea views! On our second day we were offered to move to a sea view room but they requested further payment of 50 euros a night, which as I’d already paid extra on booking I was not prepared to do. On the plus side the room was clean but basic, most definitely not what I would describe as superior in a 4 star hotel. The star rating is also questionable, I would say 3 star at best. The pool was very dirty so we didn’t use it at all and there were no umbrellas around the pool. The bar isn’t staffed so if you want a drink you have to go to reception. The only saving grace was the breakfast, the selection was very good, eggs, sausages, croissants, bread, fruit, yoghurts, ham, cheese & potatoes. On the whole very disappointing hotel. If you do stay here don’t bother paying extra for a superior room and be prepared to walk down a lot of steps to go to the beach if you want to swim as you won’t want to get an infection in the pool! Also, they advertise a plus point of being really close to the cable car for ease of getting into Taormina, the cable car hasn’t been working since February with no fixed date of reopening so you have the option of queuing for a tiny bus or walking up! Whilst I know the hotel isn’t to blame for the cable car not running it should really be made clear on all the hotels sites (my opinion) as it would definitely have affected our choice of where to stay.

We stayed in this hotel during the second week of May 2023 and paid extra for the superior room with a balcony and half board. The hotel was adequate, but tired and a long way short of 4*. For a superior room, the bathroom was very narrow (the width of a shower tray). I would only recommend booking bed and breakfast, as the evening meal menu was limited to 2 choices per course for the starter and main, with no options available for the desert. Disappointingly, a large party staying at the same time was provided with an entirely different menu that had a large number of options. We expressed our disappoin**ent to the manager, who was indifferent to our complaint. Thereafter, and a result of this, we dined out in nearby local restaurants, which are plentiful. The breakfast was also limited in choice and variety. A positive for the hotel was their waiter, Dominic, who was always helpful and polite. We will not be staying in the hotel again.
