Svatma - A Luxury Heritage Resort

We just left from Svatma resort. We booked the heritage swappanam suite (19,500 INR) which is the most expensive room in this hotel. The service and comfort we received was very short of our expectations. We are not fussy. We decided to spend a bit more to relax for a couple of days. We arrived at 3pm, an hour after the normal checking time. However our room was not ready. We had to wait for 20 minutes sitting under the porch. Getting into our room we found that there was a leak from the ceiling in the bathroom. The safe was blocked open. There were no face towels, no hand soap, one of the shower towels had brown marks. After calling reception they came to fix the leak, but afterward we didn’t have any water in the bathroom... eventually two hours later they managed to fix these issues. When the hotel manager came we told him that someone had placed the hair dryer under the leak making it dangerous to use. He just smiled. One more thing, one of the taps is very wobbly, but I couldn’t be bothered to tell them. At night there were lots of mosquitoes in the room, although we had kept doors and windows shut. We asked the staff for mosquito repellent. No one ever came. We ended up being bitten during the night.. Extremely disappointing!! We had a massage which was very good (it seems it’s a separate business as they asked us to pay them directly).

Warning to other travelers: avoid this hotel. This was one of the most disgusting hotel experiences I have ever had. The bathrooms were absolutely filthy, with visible grime and a clear lack of basic cleaning. It felt unsanitary and honestly shocking that a place charging guests would allow rooms to be in this condition. To make matters worse, there was no hot water during our stay. Being unable to take a proper shower after traveling is unacceptable and shows how poorly this property is managed. The so-called breakfast was another huge disappointment. The selection was extremely inadequate and there wasn’t nearly enough food for the guests staying there. Items ran out quickly and were not restocked in a timely manner, leaving people with almost nothing to eat. We also attempted to contact the general manager to address these issues, but our call was never returned. The lack of accountability from management says everything you need to know about how this place is run. Travelers deserve basic cleanliness, working hot water, and management that actually responds to problems. This hotel failed on all of those fronts.

Unfortunately our stay at this hotel did not meet expectations. The overall experince was disappointing. The room conditions were not up to the standard-cleaniless and maintenance appeared neglected. Requests were slow to be addressed and staff was not competent to handle complaints. Given the price and advertised standards, we expected a much more comfortable stay. There was no hot water in the rooms, so taking a shower was impossible. We hope that management takes guest feedback seriously and improves housekeeping, maintenance adn service quality. At present, I would not recommend staying there.

Conveniently located and close to most of the tourist attraction place , the rooms are comfortable, has a good restaurant serving some of the authentic south India food

This is an overpriced, terribly managed property that managed to let down on multiple fronts. The structure and interiors would have been amazing if the experience wasn't such a cop out. But the musty smell and thick dust under the bed in the rooms, absolutely filthy toilets by the swimming pool, smelly towels + awful toiletry supplies in the ensuite bathroom... all of it was astonishingly bad. I took a massage at the spa and there too, there were tissue boxes without tissues (when I asked for some tissue to blow my nose, I was told that it was 'over'!!!), a massage table that was smelly, and towels that were thin and stringy. I see a lot of reviewers blaming the staff. My observation in Feb 2026 was that they had a an entire crew of very young staff all from the North East (and possibly Nepal) who were all new (I asked - they had all been there for less than 2 months)- and undertrained. For instance, I was there with a group of French ladies and one of them once asked the restaurant server what a particular curry contained as she was being served. The poor girl had no clue and had to go rushing to her supervisor to ask. To me, such lapses point to neglectful management, not staff ineptitude. The food was very clean and good; that was the single upside. Yet, even this felt overpriced given the context. Last point - I read several reviews before visiting the property. They have been featured in various lifestyle publications. I now think that these published pieces have been PR exercises fuelled either by networks or commerce. It isn't possible for so many prestigious magazines to have written such complimentary things on the back of such disappointing experiences. Bottomline - it isn't worth even half the price you pay for it. And it is a travesty to label it '5 star'.

In serious need of a makeover. Do not be fooled by the website video made in 2019. Various 'managements' later this sad hostel is rundown, tired and grubby. The so-called guest manager could not give a damn - the staff are untrained and clearly unhappy. Our room was dark and gloomy, we avoided dinner as we were being forced to have a 7 course dinner! A lucky escape if the pathetic breakfast was anything to go by. Do not stay here

Staff had no training - they appeared foreign and seemed to be indentured servants. Kitchen had no food so we had to leave premises after long travel day for dinner. Advertised roof top bar was “under renovation” but no evidence of any work going on. Couldn’t even get a beer. Pool was a murky green - unsuitable. We actually left town a day early to avoid a 2nd night in this hotel. And we got stiffed on a refund with no communication from senior management. I put this 100% on senior management. They are taking a beautiful hotel and running it into the ground.

Terrible, we stayed there for two ghastly bad two nights. No hot water at all. Bedroom had no windows to speak of and terrible smell of damp.. Noisy air conditioning. Had to ask for toilet paper, none provided. Only buffet dinner food offered that was empty at 20h00, we were hungry and unable to wash. The worst hotel we have stayed at in 20 years of coming to India. Tiny glass of wine was 1200 Inr (£10), beer 800 Inr double the normal price in 5 star hotels, total rip-off ! They were indolent and non-responsive when we complained. Non-existant training and dreadful management. Just the worst. Everywhere else we have stayed at in Tamil Nadu has exceeded our expectations but this one is shockingly bad !

Stayed here last night. Being positioned as a premium hotel but a total let down. Very low maintainance. Mediocre front office staff / team. Bad quality / old batch towels. Poor quality toiletries. Even business class hotels offer better ones. Kettle not working. Room door just bags with poor door closing system. Breakfast was decent but could have been better. Lots of flies on the freshly cut fruits. The team could not tell if any of the baked products had any egg in them. Also finally, no one even helped us with the luggage during check out. Swimming pool with lots of insects. Lots of scope to improve.
