We just returned from our trip to Bhutan and I keep trying to find the words to explain and express how incredible, beautiful, and awe-inspiring it was for our family. The first thing you should know is that this is absolutely the place you need to take your kids. Please feel free to DM me and ask any questions - I had a lot of anxiety about whether they were too young, if it would be full of hikes and temples and not much else, and how they would find it overall - so I’m here to help if you’re considering it and am happy to answer any questions. I would say it’s probably best for kids over 5, though. They’ll need to be able to walk without a stroller and not be napping, but otherwise it’s definitely a place my kids found entirely beautiful, fun, and exciting. DO IT. But: as with everything with kids, you need to do it right and I’m convinced that the best possible option for families in Bhutan is Six Senses. I’ve been looking into this trip for years and years plus love researching travel for fun, so I know all the options, have looked at all the rooms and offers at all the different properties and I promise you will not do better than Six Senses. There are so many things to know about Bhutan, but here are a few: it’s insanely clean and free of trash and even billboards (they’re not allowed), it was a beautiful break from all that stuff you see normally. Everyone, I mean everyone, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We learned the word for hello and that worked to get waves and smiles everywhere. Our kids especially were constantly being welcomed, since kids aren’t as common it was novel for people to see them - but not in an overt and uncomfortable way, just super friendly. The nature is astounding. The country has such a focus on sustainability topped with the Six Senses approach, so we found ourselves constantly astounded. As for Six Senses they think of everything and then more. There were countless times our guide would pull something out of the van that was the best idea ever, for example: walking sticks. It’s something we wouldn’t have packed but came in handy so many times on hikes and were just really nice to have. Everything was at our pace and what we were comfortable with doing, including and especially at the beginning when we were still adjusting to the time zone. Also, super useful to know that laundry is included. This sounds like a minor detail but let me tell you it is a wonder. To be traveling with a suitcase full of clean clothes is miraculous and part way through the trip I pointed out that we would have either had all dirty clothes at that point or would have had to deal with spending our precious vacation time on laundry. It’s another thing that just makes everything so wonderful. The food: I could write paragraphs about how much we loved everything. What’s great about Six Senses is there is SO much variety on the menu, including local specialties, and then you can also always order anything you can think of o

My husband and I just returned from 10 days at the Six Senses lodges in Bhutan. Luxury in the clouds-everywhere at every lodge. We can't find ANYTHING negative to say. The Bhutanese people are so nice, kind, intelligent in every way, funny, so proud and respectful of everyone and everything. It is truly the land of happiness. We were provided with a brilliant Bhutanese guide and driver.Nima and Rinchin. We were in the best hands possible immersing ourselves in the culture and environment.Even though our days were thoroughly planned for us, they were incredibly flexible when we needed a break from seeing all of the wonderful temples, museums, festivals etc ,they created fun archery contests and picnic lunches provide by the lodges.Archery is the national sport and this is much harder than the USA version. We have made friends for life with them. Six Senses bends over backwards to make your experience something you will never forget. The food is amazing and beautifully presented. This should definitely be on your bucket list.

If you’re planning a trip to the beautiful country of Bhutan, Six Senses is the ideal choice. We recently completed a 13-night journey, visiting all five lodges, and our experience was truly amazing. Bhutan offers a wealth of sights and activities, and Six Senses ensures that you can enjoy them in the utmost comfort and luxury. First and foremost, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our guide, Chencho, and our driver, Jigme, who accompanied us throughout the entire two weeks. Our guide was highly professional, always accommodating our requests and changes in schedule. With his guidance, we gained a deep understanding of Bhutanese culture, and our hiking and nature walks with him were both enjoyable and safe. As we spent a significant amount of time in the car, traversing winding mountain roads and challenging terrains, the excellent driving skills of our driver ensured our comfort and, most importantly, our safety. We commend both of them for their exceptional service. If time and budget permit, we highly recommend visiting all five lodges. Although reaching Bumthang required a short flight and some effort, the forest location was breathtaking, and it left us in awe upon arrival. Each of the five locations has its own unique charm, with properties designed in harmony with the natural surroundings. Among these remarkable properties, the Paro lodge stands out as the absolute best. The Paro team took excellent care of us, providing flawless service throughout our stay. In addition to our daily hiking activities, we ordered some extra charge activities and specialty dinners. The Ruins Regale dinner on the eve of our departure was a truly unforgettable experience. Dressed in traditional Bhutanese attire, complete with ceremonial long boots, we enjoyed every moment. The Farmhouse dinner in Bumthang, the Cowshed dinner in Gangtey, and the Prayer Flag making with lunch in Paro were also highlights not to be missed. The food at all lodges was lovely, and we particularly enjoyed our experience making momo with the two cheerful young chefs in Bumthang. The restaurants offered a simple menu featuring both local and western selections, and the staff were more than happy to accommodate any special requests. One evening, my partner asked for tomato soup, which was not on the menu, but the restaurant gladly prepared it for us. Alongside the delicious meals served in the dining rooms, our specialty dining experiences added a delightful and varied dimension to our culinary journey. The only minor disappointment we encountered was the spa facilities. We visited the spas at all five locations and met both highly skilled therapists and some who were less professional. Having visited Six Senses Samui and Yao Noi last year, where we had exceptional spa experiences, our expectations were not fully met in Bhutan. Given the cold temperature in Bumthang, we expected the spa to be warm, but unfortunately, it was not. The shower inside the treatment ro

What an experience ! Six senses had planned my whole stay from visa application, air ticket until I left the country. It was hassle free and the lounge at Paro is just pure stunning. The tour guide Sonum and driver Singya were truly amazing and they were accompanied me by taking me to tours climbing the Tiger’s nest and visited all the religious sites. The lounge manager Roy is a humble and humorous guy. It was great to have him accompanying me as I was a solo traveler. Overall, a great and lovely experience with Six Senses! Strongly recommend!

My husband and I spent 13 nights in total over all 5 Six Senses lodges in Bhutan. I really think this is one of the most special trips we have ever taken (if not the most special), and while much of that is attributable to the majesty of the country itself, Six Senses undoubtedly elevated our experience on so many fronts. It started with the ease of dealing with, and attention to detail paid by, the reservation team--Claudine, Karma and Antriksh, who were all so responsive and helpful in making the preparations for the trip. I have a severe nut allergy which I was concerned about, but it was clear at each lodge that the reservations team had communicated this to the staff and everyone was very attune to the issue. Our guide, Younten, and driver, Deepak, were fantastic. Younten was a wealth of knowledge and a great navigator for our hikes, and we always felt safe driving around with Deepak at the wheel. We enjoyed all of the activities that the reservations team and Younten suggested/put together for us, and it was really nice to do minimal research on activities ourselves (which I usually spend so much time on prior to a trip). We really enjoyed the healthy food and drinks that were plentiful at the lodges, and loved the fact that the lodges grow herbs and vegetables that they incorporate into their menus. The attention to detail given by the staff at all lodges is unparalleled, which I think is combination of the Six Senses brand but also the extremely hospitable culture that we experienced throughout Bhutan. If you are considering this journey but don't have the time to do all 5 lodges, I don't think it's necessary, I would still say go and experience what you can, but, if you have the time, it was very special to visit all 5 locations. Do not hesitate to book this trip with Six Senses.

Just got back from an unbelievable 7 nights stay at Six Senses Paro, Thimphu, Punakha. I am cross posting for Paro and Punakha. I booked directly through Six Senses via email and they arranged a complete and customized itinerary which included all lodge stays, food, transfers, visas, guide/driver. Our guide, Chencho and driver, Jigme, were with us the entire time and were superb, extremely knowledgeable and seeing to all our needs. The food was amazing and they would customize to your taste. A wonderful balance of activity and culture. The customer service was across the board top of the line.
