The location: Perfect. Lakefront. Beautiful. Central. Lovely. The resort: There are actually 3 resorts. I stayed in Surfside. This appears to somehow be "less than" Bluefin (despite the price being "more than"). It is advertised as newer construction, though it really has a distinctly 1970s vibe so I am not sure how new it actually is. If I had to stay there again, I would stay at Bluefin. From Surfside - 1. you have to drive to get to any of the main resort facilities; and 2. though Bluefin guests can use Surfside's indoor pool/hot tub; Surfside guests may NOT use the outdoor pool/hot tub at Bluefin, something we very much wanted to do in the nice summer weather. The room: We stayed in the Surfside Master "Honeymoon Suite." It had a big jetted bathtub, a gas fireplace (that looked pretty but did not generate any heat), a patio, and spectacular views across Lake Superior through every window. We had the window shades open as much as possible and watched the lake from every angle. I don't think you could get any better with the view. We selected this room for the patio, however we rarely used it because the chairs were so uncomfortable and cheap they were almost unusable - would it hurt to put a couple nice chairs on the patio? The other problem that turned out not to be a problem is we selected this room, rather than cheaper rooms because it had A/C. The A/C did not work - we informed the front desk on our first night but it was never fixed. The evenings were in 50s/60s and we left the windows open and there was no need for A/C at all. Though I kind of feel like a sucker paying for A/C that was not usable. I loved the tub, however, when I turned on the jets, some bugs and debris came out, the tub looked very very clean, this may just be unavoidable, but you basically have to fill the tub, run a couple jet cycles, and then refill it before you bath (it seems like housekeeping should do that in prepping the room). Also, the resort *does not provide housekeeping* unless asked (we had to ask quite assertively to get daily housekeeping), it is unclear their reasons, we were told either as a matter of hotel policy or because of COVID, I suspect its because of ongoing labor shortages, but given we were paying a premium price for the room, turn down service should be expected. Room privacy: Though the room felt private and serene most of the time, in the evenings there was a semi-regular stream of people walking right in front of our ground level windows on the lake side. Considering the bathtub is right in front of one of these windows... let's just say I was almost caught VERY off guard the first evening by the walkers. At one point on a different night, there were two people hanging out with their dog basically our patio for about 5 minutes while we were trying to get changed for dinner, we had to pull down all 5 window shades to get changed in private, and close the doors/screens so we couldn't hear their conversation and
