The apartment was okay. The faucets in the shower were hard to set for the right temperature with the hot water. It was too hot or too cold and if one doesn't want to be burned, one has to have a weak flow of water. If I increased the flow the water was scorching hot. The apartments was a studio with a bed, chairs, kitchen, fully loaded with dishes, silverware. The closet space was fine and over all the place was it very clean. It is good for two people. The problem was the communication regarding the check-in process. It was not at the apartments, but on the other side of the street on the rear at the Alto Andino Hotel and to get there one has to walk about 200 feet to the corner, make a left for a 300 feet walk up a steep hill, then make another left for an additional walk of 250 feet. The walk is not a problem, but not with a 50lb duffel bag and a 19lb carry-on. If I had been told about this, I would have asked the Uber driver to take me to the Alto Andino Hotel for check-in and I would have asked the driver to wait for me to take me to the Vela apartments. Instead the Uber driver dropped me at the La Vela apts. and I was outside the apartments with my luggage, knocking at the door waiting and hoping for someone to open the door. I tried to call the number of the La Vela apts. listed on the email reservation, but I got a message from the cell service stating the number was a not working number. After about a half hour waiting, a guest of the apartments that was returning from breakfast told me about the ckeck-in issue, he also stated that he had the same problem. When I complained to the receptionist of the Alto Andino hotel, a guy, he just didn't say anything at all, he didn't even say the reason the phone didn't work. To enter the apartments, one has to key in a code. The next day management changed the code and I was not informed, so I couldn't get in the building. I tried to call the La Vela apts. at the number listed on the paper work I got at the time of check-in the day before, but no one answered the phone!!! I had to walk to the Alto Andino Hotel, I complained to the same guy that checked me in the day before, he just gave me the new combination and said that he was busy checking-in other guests, so he couldn't answer the phone. If one wants to have breakfast, one has to pay an additional $10, and it's at the Alto Andino Hotel. The breakfast was okay. The only problem was that both the coffee and the hot water for the tea were cold.

El hotel está en la calle principal, pleno centro. Calle transitada. Tarde en la noche se sienten algunas motos, pero el ruido es tolerable, luego . . . silencio. Las medias lunas del desayuno son lo mejor !! No hay frutas, quizás porque las mismas son sumamente caras en el sur argentino. Camas cómodas, habitación algo pequeña, baño con tina y buena fuerza en el agua. No hay comida como para almorzar o cenar, sí pizzas y hamburguesas.

Fuí dos días al hotel. Está muy bien ubicado, el desayuno tiene variedad, la habitación era acogedora y tenía todo lo que necesitamos! El personal súper amable y atento. La única crítica, que me pareció bastante grave, es que cuando hicimos el check out y dejamos las valijas por dos horas en el subsuelo del hotel. Al momento de retirarlas encontramos un carry con el candado forzado. Es una pena que no cuiden al cliente y la experiencia no sea un diez por estas cosas.

Despite its name, this isn't what North Americans consider a hostel. All the rooms are separate, with baths n suite. Our room was spotless. the linens were high quality. The window opened onto a small rose garden. The staff were helpful. Most spoke English but welcomed Spanish -- even our Tex Mex variety. Although it is only two blocks above Ushuaia's main street and three blocks from the port, the neighborhood was quiet. The included breakfast was a rather modest continental version, but plenty to tide us over until a more substantial lunch or brunch at one of the restaurants nearby.

We stayed here for 1 night before an Antarctic cruise. Ushuaia is very small so you can walk to anywhere. The hotel is opposite the port so very handy for this. There is also a taxi rank across the road and we got a taxi to the End of the World train and had a nice ride on there. Would recommend the hotel for a short break.

I hate leaving bad reviews; travelling here from the US was a long and exhausting process. I arrived at 07:30, way ahead of check in, and didn't expect a room, but maybe a place where I could sit and have coffee. Gentlemen at the desk said coffee was part of breakfast buffet, that I needed to wait until I was checked in for the next day. Really? I couldn't have coffee even though I was booked here two nights? Wow. I got checked in at 1, which was fine, but the room was uncomfortably warm. I found the thermostat and turned the heat to cool. Tried to nap (up all night traveling here), but it was too warm. And, I heard people talking like they were in my room. They were in an adjacent room - talking in normal voices - no sound barrier at all! I set the air to the coldest setting and left, returned a couple of hours later and the room was hot. I called the front desk and was told no air conditioning and to open a window. Loud construction and traffic - and the neighbors talking = no sleep again. Day 2, repeat. New neighbors talking, room still hot, loud noises out the window. The hotel also offers free WiFi, but it was slow and intermittent at best. Just terrible. I thought I would give them a pass on that since we were at the ”end of the world,” but found the restaurants I ate at had good WiFi. Asides: no water or coffee available except until 10:00. The bigger issue was water, as the guides I read claimed ”tap water in Ushuaia is not potable.” I've traveled to Africa (several times), Borneo, Thailand, Norway, S Korea, Costa Rica - every place I've stayed provided water, and most had coffee or other beverages available throughout the day as complimentary. To be fair, they provided bottled water in the rooms - but in the mini bar for a price. And breakfast? The breakfast plates they provide are the size of coffee saucers! And the first thing they took away from the breakfast bar was the coffee pot!! So - not impressed. I would not stay here again.

Great location, tours pick up from location, and plenty of space for a family of 4. Great and friendly service.

LOVED this hotel! Easy to walk around town. Rooms are clean and spacious. Spa amenities were great, although it was difficult to find a space to get a massage as they were fully booked. Check in was quick and easy. The breakfast was good and had a large variety of offerings (including some desserts!)

The Good stuff Great views from rooms, and it's a moving view with all the ships leaving port, even if you just had trees out your room window, great views over Ushuaia, airport and harbour from common areas such as bar, restaurant. Friendly staff, even the ones who speak limited English always keen to help. Beds are comfortable. Internet was really fast and reliable Food is nice and reasonably priced in the bar (around what you pay for bar or takeaway food in tourist places in Ushuaia). There is also a restaurant which I didn't use, except for with the included breakfast, which is a buffet type of arrangement. Has bacon, eggs, various bread, pastries, cereal, juice, the standard stuff. There's some nature trails next to hotel that take you to other hotels through forest with creeks and the like. Bad stuff The location that gives you those trails and views, well it's about a ten minute drive to Ushuaia. The hotel is located in the mountains behind the town. So if you don't have a car because you're on a tour that for some reason doesn't grasp the concept most people want to stay in the towns if they haven't been to a place before, well you've got to rely on the free shuttle (a van). It leaves from town 9:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 4pm (yep big gap in there), 6pm and 8pm. It leaves for town (to the wharf area) from the hotel at 8am, 10am, midday, 3:30pm (another huge gap), 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Doesn't open for your paid for with room price breakfast until 7am. This is a pretty late time to eat breakfast. Especially when you consider the astronomical amount of day tours (front of hotel is like a bus station in the morning), people with early flights or who are boarding ships to Antarctica. On checkout day the tour I was on had a 6am pickup to the airport, I enquired if we get breakfast we paid for somehow. Was told you can order a picnic lunch from bar, and I asked if this was complementary, and was told oh no you have to pay for it. Likewise you pay theme park/airport prices for laundry. You have to pay per item and not the standard one price for whatever fits in a laundry bag (a load) that you get in most places. Or even per kg. But per item. Underwear is $2USD. Socks $2USD. T-shirt $3USD. Sweater $6. For the ladies a dress is somehow $12. And if you want anything ironed on top of that items range from $2 to $10 to be what they call pressed. The hotel does have a good hairdryer in the walk in wardrobe, except it is attached by a chord to the wall so you've got to stand in there to dry your underwear or whatever after washing it in the sink. For some reason though the coat hangers are permanently attached to the rod in the walk in wardrobe, so you can't hang stuff to get the sunlight through the window or something and minimise the hairdryer time.
