My stay at Yunshuiyao Inn in Shangtan Village was decent overall. Here’s a summary of my experience: The inn is nestled within an ancient village, surrounded by mountains and rivers. The courtyard with its patio and ancient trees creates a tranquil and serene atmosphere, quiet and peaceful, making it a moderately comfortable environment – perfect for a relaxed getaway. The staff were polite and friendly, prompt with check-in and quick to respond to any requests. Basic services were well-provided with no noticeable shortcomings. The inn offers local farmhouse dishes; the ingredients were fresh, and the taste was decent, typical home-style cooking with normal portion sizes. The food was generally acceptable. The biggest highlight of the inn is that it’s converted from a hundred-year-old Huizhou-style ancient building, meticulously restored to its original glory. The intricately carved wooden beams, blue bricks, and old tiles are all perfectly preserved, creating an incredibly authentic ancient charm. The architectural features are truly outstanding and make for excellent photo opportunities. Overall, there were no real downsides, and the unique characteristics were a definite bonus. It’s ideal for travelers who appreciate historical architecture and seek a quiet, leisurely trip.

Wanting to experience life in an ancient Huizhou village in Wuyuan, I chose Mingxun Courtyard · Yunshuiyao in Shangtan Village, nestled behind a thousand-year-old camphor tree. Pushing open the weathered wooden door, I discovered that this old Huizhou-style house held 300 years of history – it was once the residence of a third-rank official during the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, later serving as a stage and a school, and now, a 'living artifact' that you can stay in. **Time Travel in a Three-Courtyard Home** Walking further inside on the bluestone slabs, the front hall still exuded the grandeur of its official past. The carvings on the wooden beams, though showing signs of age, were carefully preserved. I stayed in the 'Poetry & Ritual Cultural Panorama King Room.' The four-poster wooden bed was draped with a light gauze canopy, but the best part was the window-side tatami. Leaning there in the afternoon, brewing tea and listening to the rain, I almost felt transported back to a Ming and Qing dynasty noble family. **Poetic Living Amidst Old Relics** The housekeeper mentioned that the restoration here was 'as old as new,' even the roof beams retained their original wooden structure. The house has three floors in total. The second floor of the front hall displays many antique vanity items, along with Hanfu and Qipao available for guests to choose from. Wearing Hanfu here and taking photos, you can get amazing shots anywhere. There are also chessboards, a tea room, and a desk with brushes for passing the time. **Village Charm and Distant Horizons** Outside the guesthouse, there's a thousand-year-old camphor tree that many people come to photograph. Shangtan Village itself was a filming location for 'I Am Not Madame Bovary,' and you can reach the small bridge and flowing water from the movie within a two-minute walk from the guesthouse. This feeling of 'living in the scenery' is so much more comfortable than just visiting attractions. Check-in also included afternoon tea and breakfast. Additionally, there are coffee shops and local farm-to-table restaurants around the guesthouse. Inside, there's also a dining area where the auntie cooks authentic Wuyuan dishes, and the breakfast is also very rich, featuring local specialties that are both comforting and heartwarming.

Absolutely stunning!!! This guesthouse is an an absolute gem. Walking into the main courtyard this beautifully restored atmospheric historic building truly gave me a ‘wow’ moment which extended to one of the most beautifully appointed rooms I have ever stayed in, which was not only comfortable, but furnished with lots of wonderfully curated design features that make this place truly special. Service was warm and accommodating, from a hearty breakfast with lots of choice, to helping with sightseeing recommendations. I cannot recommend highly enough and excellent value for money.

I came here specifically because it's a filming location for 'I Am Not Madame Bovary'. Right next to the inn, there's a thousand-year-old camphor tree that many people come to check out! You can also easily take a bamboo raft from nearby. The inn itself is a 300-year-old historical residence, full of character! Just look at the pictures, haha! The design maintains the ancient architectural style, while the in-room amenities are modern, making for a very comfortable stay. The breakfast offered here is also plentiful and delicious. You can also choose to have other meals at the inn; just let the butler know in advance (it's at your own expense). The butler service is very attentive – they proactively help with luggage and provide local travel tips. Honestly, staying here is really peaceful and excellent in every aspect, offering great value for money!

Wuyuan's Shangtan Village is such a hidden gem! This place, it's not an underrated, little-known spot at all! It's a fairyland privately tucked away by God 😭 When I first came, I was just hoping to try my luck on the way 😅 I'm so glad 😭 I blindly picked "Mingxun Courtyard · Yunshuiyao." I heard it's a guesthouse converted from an old Ming and Qing dynasty residence, and it truly exudes the charm of history! 👍👍 Staying here, even just daydreaming became a pleasure. In the afternoon, I sat in the courtyard, sipping tea, watching cats and dogs dozing at my feet. Time just slowed down unbelievably. 🤣 I'll be back! Just you wait, I'm bringing my friends next time to stay for three to five days! 😎😎😎

I finally fulfilled my dream of staying in a century-old ancient house, and the feeling of traveling back in time is just incredible 😭. Originally built during the Yongzheng period, it boasts a genuine 300-year history and was once the residence of a third-rank official. Now, it's a provincial-level historical preservation building in Jiangxi! The hotel amenities are also comprehensive: ✨Cuisine: Fresh bamboo shoots with cured meat, chopped chili fish head 🐟 — absolutely delicious and perfect with rice. ✨Afternoon Tea: Coffee ☕️, tea, and alcoholic beverages to suit various preferences. ✨Facilities: TV 📺, bathtub 🛁, foot bath桶 (foot spa tub), washing and drying machines, and more – everything you could need.

A quiet hotel in the village, with quaint architecture and a huge camphor tree at the entrance, instantly bringing a sense of peace. The room facilities are quite new, featuring smart home devices, and everything is clean. The staff are all very enthusiastic. They offer homemade chrysanthemum tea and rice wine. There are also two Teddy dogs and a cat that catches mice.

I visited during Chinese New Year. There's parking available, and the village itself is small, about a 30-minute stroll. It's a good base to explore the surrounding area. The service from the staff (young man and woman) was excellent, making for a very comfortable stay. Since it was cold, the air conditioning was already on when I entered the room, making it nice and warm, and there was even an electric blanket on the bed. The wooden tub in the bathroom was perfect for a foot soak – so relaxing! The courtyard is said to be part of a former residence of a high-ranking official, which gives it a real sense of history. I'd love to go back if I get the chance.

This is an excellent B&B housed in a traditional old building. Chatting with one of the staff, I learned that the owner rented this old building in the village over ten years ago, purely out of passion! He restored it, and it has grown into what it is today. There aren't many rooms, but they are all well-equipped and thoughtfully designed. Plus, there's a small beverage bar, and during the Spring Festival, there was a volunteer helping out (a young man as well). The next day, we had to leave very early to get to the scenic area, and they even prepared warm snacks for us to take on the road! So considerate! It really felt like home! They also took a group photo for our family, which was a lovely touch for the festive season! Cleanliness: Felt great! Facilities: All good, and the local folk customs were charming.

This is one of the most beautiful places I have stayed at in China. It is like sleeping in a Chinese painting. The building has been lovingly restored and has a lot of charm. The staff are friendly and accommodating, the breakfast is bountiful. The village is tranquil, I have rested well here.

The price and amenities are completely mismatched. The common areas and the rooms feel like they're from two different hotels. The rooms are comparable to a guesthouse near a scenic spot, maybe a maximum of 400 RMB. The food at the guesthouse isn't good and it's expensive; I even found something in my breakfast. The facilities themselves aren't terrible, but it just doesn't feel like good value for money anywhere. The service is barely acceptable. I don't think staying in a guesthouse is suitable for a trip to Wuyuan; a hotel would be a much better option.
