What began as a suspiciously underpriced, gorgeously designed, epicentrically located property with heart and smiles for days...turned into a psychotic, abusive nightmare, like something straight out of Rosemary’s Baby. Never in all my days, in all the hundreds of properties and thousands of nights in everything from backpacker hostels to five-star suites, have I been subjected not simply to bad service (fixable) but outright and unrepentant hostility, harassment and torment by the staff. Unbelievable. As the gentleman and professional many know me to be, I in good faith detailed the infractions, called for a GM meeting, recommended simple solutions, had multiple follow-up meetings, and presumed the offending micro-tyrants would be disciplined and neutralized. They weren’t. It only got worse. And worse still. Think, stalking, door slamming, man-handling my iPad (verboten), shorting guest change when paying by cash in the bar (witnessed multiple times), having aggressive security called for eating in an otherwise public area five minutes beyond a theretofore unknown “rule,” asking me repeated and pointedly “how long I would be staying...” you get the idea. So, in the end, I cancelled two weeks of reservations (which would have been expanded to 6+) and protested with my feet. I left. A day out and I STILL feel emotionally winded, unsure of what I just witnessed. All I know is that if my behavior to a client or guest even approached this, I’d be – and should be – terminated on the spot. This was not the decision of management. But maybe it’s me. Maybe this is Croatia’s version of adventure travel. Not enough to make me fall out of love with Zagreb...but close. Interesting world.

Stayed at Hotel International with a Costsaver/Trafalgar group tour on June 18, 19, 26. A very good location as it is situated in a quiet area but if you walk 20 minutes you are in the center of the action of Zagreb with parks, restaurants and shops. Just around the corner from the hotel is the Milnar Bakery. You can find all kinds of delicious baked goods to take on the go and very reasonable. Tried the tasty Mexican Chicken Roll 11 Kuna and the Burek with Apple 10 Kuna. They open at 5:30am and closed on Sunday. At the Hotel International their breakfast buffet is very good. They open at 6:30 am which can give you an early start to your day. A very good choice of breakfast dishes-scrambled eggs which were so tasty AND NOT WATERY, bacon, zuccini, assortment of cheeses and cold cut meats and so many other choices, delicious assortment of breads and rolls. Those rolls with the seeds, out of this world delicious. Wish I new what those rolls with the pumpkin seeds are called as would love to buy them back home in Canada. They also had fresh fruits and a nice display of fruit cocktail. They have a dispenser that you can get juices and cold water. The fruit juice was very refreshing. The room was on the small side but it served its purpose. The room and bathroom very clean. I liked the idea that the bathroom had a packaged soap provided as I found out in other hotels that the soap dispensers are so hard to squeeze out the liquid soap. It was great that the room had a fridge and there was a complimentary 1 liter bottle of cold water in the fridge.

The only thing good about this small hotel is the location and the hot shower. Everything else was not as expected from such high review ratings! I came a with a friend, we booked separate rooms at the same time and price. When we got to the hotel we each were given very different rooms. I got to the hotel first and asked for a room on a high floor with a view. Lady at check in said it wasn't possible as the hotel was full. A few minutes later my friend arrived and got a lovely room on the top floor with windows and lots of sunlight. Meanwhile I am in a dark room on a lower floor with no light or view and a balcony that is a joke. There was only one bath towel and a hand towel on the first day, the next day the same but one face cloth added, third day two complete sets of towels but no face cloth. I didn't need or want to have the towels changed every day! There was a useless kitchenette in the corner. No microwave and no dish towels or paper towels. There was a bottle of Coke and water in the mini fridge but it was not clear if it was supposed to be there. The mini fridge in my friend's room had a few more beverages in it and a price list, but there was no price list in my room. The temperature and fan control in my room never worked and the instructions given in the room notes were not clear. You also needed to read the instructions to get the TV channels, it wasn't just click on and watch. There was a robe in my room but no tissues or note pad and pen. The staff was not very knowledgeable about tram and bus - yet there was a tram stop just behind the hotel. I am not sure how this hotel was rated so highly but it doesn't deserve it.

This hotel is amazing, I’m a diamond member and this was the nicest Garden Inn I have ever stayed in. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The bathroom design could be a little better, you had to close the door to use the sink. The people at the front desk were so helpful. They helped us figure out how to get to old town, we walked. Instead of walking along a busy street they told us to walk by their green belt instead, it was only 5 minutes longer. They also arranged for a breakfast box for us on the day we checked out. Most hotels would give you a piece of fruit, fruit bar and water. The Garden Inn gave us a menu to choose from with sandwiches (both with meat and veggie), option of fruit, yogurt and something to drink. The standard buffet breakfast was very nice. Good selections and good quality items. There was parking in the back of the hotel, but there was also underground parking. It cost 15E a day. There were a number of restaurants in the area and a market across the street. Highly recommend. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport and it was an easy drive.

Der Service des Hotels ist toll. Der spa Bereich liegt im 10ten Stock mit einer schönen Aussicht, jedoch ist er um einiges kleiner als wie es auf den Bildern scheint. Am zimmer gibt es nichts auszusetzen, schaut sehr schön aus und ist sauber.

It's hard to write an honest review of this hotel because there's not really any fault with it in itself... BUT... it is VERY remote right at the top of a mountain about 10 miles outside of the city and it takes at least an hour to get back and forth along a very narrow winding road so, if like us, you were thinking of staying here and popping back and forth, think again. The hotel is really a ski hotel and geared mainly to accommodate the small ski resort nearby therfore the season it caters for is winter. This wasn't clear at the time of booking so when we arrived at the end of the summer (September) the pool was closed for cleaning, there was no drinking water due to seasonal maintenence and other services closed or limited etc. Having booked to stay the week we cancelled our booking and only stayed the one night. Bottom line is it's a nice, clean hotel and the staff were all very friendly but it wasn't what we we're led to believe at the time of booking, hence writing this review in the hope that it stops other travellers being misled.

Honestly, we were not sure what to expect considering the relatively low price of the hotel. When we arrived, we were impressed from the first moment. We left the car in the free parking lot, checked in quickly and went to the enormous room with a bathroom the size of my childhood bedroom! The hotel is not located in the center of the city but the tram is right outside so getting to the center is easy. However, we were really just there to sleep during a stop on a long drive. To that end, the hotel was perfect. The beds were so comfortable, I slept better than I do at home (according to my smart watch). The shower had great pressure and although we didn't use it, the room had a jet tub. I noticed a few reviews with complaints about the breakfast. I don't know if they were at the same hotel. This was a super upscale breakfast that was so good, it shocked us. The hot and cold options were excellent. The variety was really impressive. Everything was fresh and delicious. We were actually sad to leave but we had to get on the road. We will absolutely stay here again when we are in Zagreb

We utilized this hotel after we flew into Zagreb, preparing to drive into Bosnia the next day. It was only a 15 min drive from the airport. There was plenty of parking (free). The hotel exterior was nice and well maintained. Check in was easy and attendant was friendly. The room was spacious by European standards and bathroom was nice. Good water pressure and plenty hot. Breakfast was fantastic - lots of options for food and drink. Cafe on site for coffee and ice cream, too. Only negative would be that there was a wedding the night we stayed, which went until 5 am (perhaps typical for a Croatian wedding!), and could still hear the base of the music two floors up. Not a problem for us, as we sleep with a white noise machine, but something to ask before the stay. Would certainly recommend this hotel!
