My work brings me to Zürich many times each year, often several times each month. And my company usually books us at this property. I’ve probably spent more than 50 nights at this Marriott property over the last several years. I used to enjoy my stays here, but the hotel seems to be getting worn down, and is now overrun with cruise and bus tour customers, which can often overwhelm the staff. and leave the rest of their guests with lengthy waits for assistance. Normally, Renaissance properties are among my favorite Marriott brands, and one of my “go-to” hotels when traveling for pleasure, but this hotel has seen better days. The rooms are spartan and dull, the decor is dated, and they REALLY need to upgrade their bedding and mattresses. As a Lifetime BonVoy Platinum Elite member, I am entitled to Club lounge access, free breakfast, and room upgrades, among other perks. Their new SkyLounge is an improvement, but isn’t very inviting and their beverage/snack options need improvement. The breakfast buffet is more what you’d expect to find at a budget-brand hotel, with uninspired food, bad coffee and overall pretty tasteless. Thankfully it’s free, as I wouldn’t pay for it (and the isolated location doesn’t provide many alternatives). The staff try their best to be polite, but are often overwhelmed and exhausted by the tour groups. And they can be a bit surly at times. If you have a choice, stay elsewhere. You can get much better accommodations/service for the price.

It seems clear to me that the quality of customer service in travel has greatly deteriorated in the last three years. I understand that service providers have trouble finding and retaining people and the ones they have often don’t seem to take pride in their work. Sadly, I’ve come to accept this as the “new normal.” Which is why our recent three-night stay at the Park Hyatt in Zurich was such a welcome surprise. Not only was our room clean and comfortable but the service we received, from start to finish, was efficient and personal. Just a few examples: We had a flight delay and airport transfer difficulty arriving to Zurich and did not get to the hotel until after 1:00. The gentleman working the front desk who checked us in, got us waters, helped with our bags and personally escorted us to our rooms. He was also working the next night when we returned to the hotel after dinner. He spotted us coming through the lobby and literally ran over from the front desk, greeted us by name and asked if our room was acceptable and if there was anything he could do for us. The housekeeping staff are a bunch of ninjas. You never saw their carts in the hall but we’d leave in the morning and when we returned in the afternoon the room was made up. Perfectly. We’d leave for dinner and when we returned the room was turned down. Perfectly. We had drinks the first night at the Onyx Bar. When we returned the next night, the bartender remembered both our names and our drinks. We interacted on several occasions with the daytime concierge. I wish I remembered his name. It wasn’t just that he was knowledgeable about Zurich and responded immediately to our requests. He acted like speaking to us was the absolute highlight of his day. I know these are all little things but they added up to a wonderful stay. Plus, the hotel couldn’t be more conveniently located. Staying at the Park was a luxury item for us but, let’s face it, traveling anywhere in Switzerland is a luxury item. I would return to the Park for their level of personal service in a minute.

The Sorrel is exceptionally modern and turned out to offer us the best room of the three during this anniversary trip. It is up a hill although that is fine when busses run past frequently. It’s so rare to see drawers in hotel rooms these days and it’s the first hotel I’ve seen offering a yoga mat which I should have utilised. Being in and out of extreme heat and struggling air-con is no good for my muscles. Another first is a little shoe cabinet. All of this adds up to the Sorrel being the best-equipped hotel of the year. We could have happily stayed here a week, if only Switzerland weren’t one of the most pricey countries on earth. It lacked USB points and that’s the only negative and so surprising when they are quite an easy install. I have them everywhere at home. Sorrel is another that chooses Rituals for its toiletries which always gets my attention when deciding on travel stays. Bathroom Handheld shower and good bath with a welcoming duck. Shame it wasn’t clear if that was ours to keep. A shelf above the sink with glass holders underneath. Towel rail holding the usual 2 large, 2 small towels and a bath mat Full-size Rituals shower gel, hand wash and a good-sized sanitiser and amenity kit. Much rarer these days, are a couple of travel-size body lotions. The room had two European beds joined together with bedside tables and wall-mounted lamps. TV mounted in the corner Desk and chair. 2 armchairs and a coffee table Our airy room looked out to the front of the hotel and had a large fan and a cumbersome and noisy air conditioning unit. The unit stopped working on the second day (maybe a full filter?) although the open window and fan sufficed. The wardrobe has a a drawer, 5-6 assorted regular wooden hangers, shelving, and the aforementioned shoe storage. Safe, fridge and pod coffee machine, kettle and a couple of (wine) glasses all added to our comfort. Along with the sanitiser, there was a helpful touch of a complimentary bottle of water. Although when there’s a kettle, my hotel habit is to boil water, let it cool and fill my water bottle with that. And if all of that didn’t make us smile (it did) then there were a couple of welcome chocolates on the pillow. Breakfast served in the ground floor lounge space consisted of an ample buffet, no mean feat when there only appeared to be two wonderful staff hosting us. A comfortable stay ensures we’ve added ‘Sorrel’ to our list of hotel brands to look out for. That’s when we chance upon the opportunity to pass through Switzerland again.

The Sorell Zurichberg is a quiet hotel that appears to cater mainly to business meetings. For that reason it is surprising that it's internet is sketchy and even Swisscom connections sometimes fail, apparently because it's situated halfway up Zurïchberg. The rooms are well appointed and I had one of the largest rooms with a view of the Swiss Alps and Lake Zurich. The view of the Swiss Alps is one of the most beautiful, but because of the small windows (see one of the pictures attached) most rooms don't have this view in its full glory. The area around the hotel is beautiful for walking. There's a woods nearby but even walking along the streets, wish I generally well lit, is relaxing. There's a sports center nearby with tennis and other activities. The zoo is a 5-minute walk away as is the cemetery where the Irish author James Joyce is buried along with some other celebrities. Bathroom is a good size with a bathtub and a rainfall shower or spray. There was a Nespresso coffee machine in the room and a fridge with a basic selection of for-pay snacks. The bed is comfortable and you have a selection of pillows, which you can ask for from reception. There's ample closet space with a small safe for valuables. I was also a shoehorn and the bag for laundry, which as is the case in many hotels is very expensive if you have them do it for you. A restaurant is a bit disappointing. The breakfast is good and varied, but other meals served in the restaurant are just above a fast food level. The vegetable couscous served in the bar was disappointing. This hotel is a quiet respite from the noise and business of downtown Zurich, but it has some kinks that need to be worked for it to live up to its four-star rating. Guests should be aware that they are very much outside the center of Zurich, about a half hour by tram. The number 6 tram however runs quite frequently.

I stayed as a single business traveller. Location of hotel is good and it is newly painted and refurbished - so is clean and modern. However when I came back from supper to my room, I discovered it was full of flies and other bugs - crawling all over the ceiling of the bedroom and bathroom and down the walls. My sink was full of bugs as was the loo seat and even the bed cover. So it was 2300 and I rang the reception to ask for fly spray to deal with the problem. He said he woudl call me back. I waited 20 mins. No one called. I called again. He said he was with customers and would come up and see for himself. I waited another 10 mins and no one came. I walked down to reception adn theres no staff there. I rang again. He told me no one was in my room. he then realised he was in a different Swiss Fassbind hotel and was jsut the on call phone service. He told me there were no staff overnight in the hotel. But also theres no insect spray. So if you have no staff on duty - which is the owner tells me an economic reality of Swiss hotel staff shortages so they cant hire one. (Maybe pay them more???) I spent the night with insects and bugs falling on me from the ceiling. Luckily I am not frightened of bugs but I didnt appreciate the insect bites. I emailed the owner of the chain and he first off gave me two handy lectures (weird customer approach to be honest) one on the staff shortages in Europe and the second on the presence of insects in his life too. I really dont care about either of these issues - I do care that a company takes my money and I dont get a nights sleep when the issue is utterly avoidable. PUT INSECT SPRAY IN YOUR BUG RIDDEN ROOMS! But hey, I doubt they will care about my views. Customers come and go. Dont get the feeling theyre invested in keeping them.

I had a booking at Hotel California in July 2023 and they refused to let us check in to our room saying that we should pay for another room for my baby of 1 year and kid of 5 year although their booking policy clearly states that kids below 6 are welcomed and not considered as adults and even we have previously requested an extra bed/crib and they confirmed through booking. Our booking was fully paid in advance and they refused to help us and they were very rude and kept shouting at us and talked in a very rude way and i even asked them to check in the double room with my baby to change the diaper and that my husband will go for another hotel with my kid and they even refused!!! We asked to book another room for 1 night till we see another hotel on the second day and they even refused!!!! The chief called us and she was raising her voice and talking in a rude way and said they choose their customers and that the policy is common sense!!!! When i asked what does it mean concerning kids, she said it means that they don’t pay city tax!!!! And that she doesn’t care for the policy written and if kids are considered persons they should have a room like adults!!! And this is common sense!!! I asked if she can let her kids of 5 and 1 year alone in a room in a different country she said no she won’t but she wants us to do so!!! I asked to make the reservation for two rooms for one night and they even refused and said either to make two rooms for two nights or to leave!!!! And finally they told us that they won’t give us the room and they won’t talk to us as they have work!!!! We told them we r customers and this is also work and they just left us!!!!!! As they said they won’t talk to us about hundreds of euros while they have other important customers paying thousands and that talking to us is a waste of time and they just left us and went downstairs to the restaurant!!! Also, there was clear racism as the receptionist said you are here in Switzerland not in Egypt not in turkey not in the middle east we don’t welcome you here we have more important guests!!!!! While we are traveling the world as a family and paying for this!!! and it’s clearly that she never visited any other country to judge anyone!!! Or even to learn good English in order to be able to communicate with their important guests as she says and to stop interrupting everyone without understanding anything as she has a language barrier and not aware at all of how to deal with customers!!!! Cleary they have no ethics nor professionalism!!! We left the hotel and we booked a double room in another hotel in the same are and they were so friendly and helped us a lot unlike the hotel we originally booked for!!!!! After we contacted booking for the case and requested the full refund and upon communicating with the hotel, they came back to us stating that the hotel claims that we damaged a phone during our stay and that they want 50 euros!!!!! We replied that this is completely unacceptable and

The accommodation is modern and very clean. The location is great, close to a lot of places walking and also easy reach to public transport. The most impressive thing was the the lovely breakfast served in the room, which my 2 year old kid would look forward every morning. The staff was friendly and very competent. I couldn’t recommend them enough! If there was a small thing to say, would be to add roller blackouts in the bedroom’s window, they have windows blackout in the living room, but it would’ve been great to have the bedroom darker, however this is a really small thing compared to the outstanding service offered.

The hotel is RIGHT IN FRONT of the main Central Train station. Behind the hotel is the shopping belt and the old town where you can walk to see the various architectural buildings. The staff there were helpful especially in the early morning getting me a taxi to the airport. Cleaning staff replenishes the toiletries daily without fail. Is a great hotel location and place to stay in Zurich.

The trip was very enjoyable! The staff at the front desk downstairs was very friendly and told us where the nearby stores were. The hotel room was also clean and tidy and had a thoughtful fan to keep us cool. The entire neighborhood was very quiet and pleasant and there were good restaurants nearby. There was a Thai food restaurant a few steps downstairs that we thought was very good.

I was there for 2 days, from 9 to 11 May, I was there together with my wife. The Hotel is quite good .Admittedly we waited a while to check-in, a lot of guests just arrived , but after that everything was fine, great service at the reception , we were by car ,the lady from the front desk showed us how to get to the parking lot. The room was small but pleasant and clean, breakfast good, staff very good. If Im ever in Zurych definitely come there back.
