The current Tianhou Temple was rebuilt in 1936. The main deity, Mazu, is the guardian goddess of the sea. At that time, Lukang was a key point in maritime traffic, and the Tianhou Temple, which enshrined Mazu, was bustling with activity, with incense smoke never ceasing. The reconstruction of the current Tianhou Temple gathered renowned architects. The Daokaden Hall, in particular, can be said to be the culmination of such architectural techniques. Behind the temple is the Lukang Mazu Museum, which is open to the public for free.
