The Past and Present of Morocco's Sleepless Square

Morocco's Sleepless Square, also known as Djemaa el-Fna. During the Alawite Dynasty, it was a place for executing prisoners, also known as the 'Square of the Beheaded'. Over time, it has evolved into an area where various traditional folk customs, arts, acrobatics, performances, and entertainment activities coexist with stalls and night markets. Arabs, Berbers, and Saharans meet here; the city and the countryside meet here; the ancient and the modern converge here. Standing in the square, I am the square, and I believe it has always been so.
