We travelled as a group of three families (5,5,4) and enjoyed our stay at Hotel Housei very much. While my family are frequent travellers to Japan, it was the first time for the other two families and they were keen to try Japanese accommodation - tatami, futons, and onsens. We were able to book three tatami rooms all with private onsen and they were fantastic - especially as the majority of our travelling group were a little shy to go nude in the public bath 😬 The futons were comfortable, the rooms were cosy and warm, and we enjoyed the complimentary tea and traditional sweets, and the yukatas to wear. The instructions for using the private bath were very clear and the bath itself was lovely to soak in and enjoy. The staff were very friendly and could communicate well in English. They made excellent restaurant suggestions for our group of 14, and also assisted with sightseeing and snowboarding suggestions in the area (less snow this year so usual spots not open). They always welcomed us warmly when we returned each day from our adventures and we enjoyed their personal touch. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the snow monkeys, local ski field and the train station, but we had hired cars so did not need to use it. They had a valet parking service which was very handy! We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this hotel and will stay again!

Very welcoming guesthouse owner, the owner family kindly provide me breakfast and shuttle service to bus terminal, which I very appreciate and help my a lot in the snowy conditions. The bedroom I stayed are clean and tidy. The guesthouse comes with cozy bathrooms, small onsen and even a Finnish sauna room, a very comfortable to stay after a ski day.

長野電鉄の終着駅、湯田中駅を下車して徒歩１０分程度。友人と2人で占い部屋に宿泊しました。占いの時間を事前に確認してくれ、私たちは到着後すぐに占ってもらいました。様々な占いをしてくれ、悩みの解決に向けてのいくつかのアドバイスを頂きました。こちらは何も話していないのに、自分自身にピッタリあたり本当に驚きました。あたり過ぎて…怖かったです。湯田中まで遠い道のりでしたが、頑張って来てよかった、と実感です。旅館のご主人の笑顔が素敵で、優しく接してくれました。部屋も綺麗な和室でした。コンチネンタル朝食のくるみパンは美味。ゆで*もゆで加減がよく、甘めを抑えたジャム、たくさん用意された飲み物も最高！また是非とも行きます。

Our intial guesthouse cancelled on us as we were leaving for Norikura Kogen so we scrambled to find another place. We found this pension on AirBnB (they're not listed on ***********) and was accepted within a few hours. The rooms were comfortable and covered the basics. The owners were very kind and accomodated us at late notice for dinner at their resturant. They also made us Onigiri for breakfast the next morning as we were leaving early for a hike. The dinner was a course meal with starters, 2 main dishes (fish and duck) and dessert - all home made. They also offer breakfast too. The best part of the stay was their onsen. There are 2 onsen rooms that has indoor and outdoor, and you can use privately (you take the tag and hang it on the door) however if someone is already in there you'll have to wait. The onsens were very relaxing especially after a long hike. Highly recommend staying here and to eat dinner/breakfast at their resturant as there are very limited food options in Norikura Kogen. Plus you get to enjoy a private onsen!
